I don’t even like pastrami Reuben’s but I tasted my husbands and wished it was mine. I ordered a burger that was good just not as good as his.

Nice choice. We found this place using Unilocal.Food was tasty. Burgers were cooked well. Environment was old school college bar. Prices were a little high for what you got, but overall, not a bad shop. I appreciate the order system. No mistakes. You write it, they make it. Exactly how you ask.

I love George’s! If you want to stuff yourself with unhealthy, yet delectable food, you better swing by George’s. It’s a complete dive, but such a good place to relax and eat like crap. If it wasn’t for La Reyna and Dang’s, this would be my hands-down favorite place in Baton Rouge.

The Food Wizards in the kitchen at George’s reached a new high yesterday. The went off the menu for me and made me a Muffaletta Salad. It was a Muffaletta on a bed of lettuce instead of bread. It was the BESTSALAD I have had in MYLIFE. I had asked for a side of 1000 Island since I thought it might need a touch of sweetness but the olive salad added the exactly PERFECT amount of zip and dressing without being overpowering. They served it cold so the cheese was shaved and not melted but it was delicious. It’s a little tricky to eat and I recommend starting at one end and chop and mix the meats, cheeses, lettuce and olive dressing as you go and work your way to the middle and then you can spread out the rest and chop and mix. It is NOTONTHEMENU. You won’t get it unless you ask nicely and it’s probably better if you ask before you write it on the order card. I am hoping they will put it on the menu so I can order it all the time. I love creative and unusual salads and I make a lot of them at home, but this one was outrageously delicious – I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since I had it – which is pretty unusual for me, but it was SOGOOD!!! George’s is still holding strong to their nationwide reputation as the best dive in the Southeast USA, you can get fancier and more expensive but you can’t get any BETTER. Still located under the I-10 overpass off of Perkins Road!

George’s is one of my favorite #BatonRouge go-to’s for tasty food and good vibes. I love the locals-only feeling and the cozy quarters. The beer selection is great and the menu has the perfect blend of American and Southern items. The dollar bills on the ceiling make for a fun photo op, too!

Came to George’s in route home to Texas. I wanted a shrimp poboy. This place makes a solid shrimp poboy, but not the best that I’ve had. My husband had the bbq poboy and liked it a lot. My daughter had the grilled cheese and ate all of it. The service was very speedy. Prices are affordable. They have an awesome beer collection; I’m sure if we could have stayed and had the full dining/drinking experience I’d be giving this venue more than 3.5 stars. I’ll be back next time I’m in BR.

We came to George’s on a recommendation from a friend who lives here. It was exactly what we expected, cool dive with good food! It is helpful to know that when you walk in, go to the far end of the bar to order. Just grab you a ticket and proceed to write it down, put your name at the top and leave it on counter. Staff was helpful if you have questions about the menu. My husband ordered a shrimp plate(comes with salad and fries). The salad was served with an interesting pesto/oil based dressing that was refreshing to the palate while eating all the fried shrimp. He got onion rings instead of fries. They were wonderful! The thin cut, crunchy, perfect amount of batter kind without losing the taste of the onion. I ordered the Georgia’s club with cheese fries. The club was what one would expect when ordering this dish; however, the twist of avocado and bean spouts were a nice surprise! Cheese fries were good, but nothing that shot me to the moon and back. Overall George’s is a joint where you feel at home and leave with a full, happy belly

I thought I was done eating under an overpass once I was done being a homeless bum. Only kidding about the being done with eating under an overpass. Or am I kidding about being done being a homeless bum? Any way, please ignore my attempt at humor, I’m not a funny person. This is a dive, a very divey dive. If the door was closed, there would not be much in the way of natural light. You park under the overpass, walk across the street where you are barely out from under the overpass into a bar/restaurant where you have to go up to the counter and order. Then pick your silverware from the semi-clean utensil stack and pick the cleanest table, and flick the food particles from the table. Once your food is ready, your name is softly called at the bar, and you go pay and get your food. I came with three other Unilocal-ers after a UYE road trip to the state capital building. The burgers were large. One of the other people in my group ordered onion rings, and those were a sparkle of an item, a highlight. The soft drinks can be refilled if you take your cup to the bar. The ceiling is painted black, buckling in one spot that I noticed and is covered in dollar bills that are written on. The women’s restroom is tiny. This will not be the restroom for a pair to gossip unless you don’t mind not having personal space. There was a sign pointing to an outdoor dining area, though I am unsure how you would know if your name was called stating your food was ready. I would only come back if I happened to be in the area and others suggested it, but I am glad I experienced it once.

By far my favorite place to get a burger! This is a Baton Rouge standby! Plenty of parking and in an awesome location under the overpass. Definitely the closest thing to Cheers in Baton Rouge. They know their regulars and love them! Very friendly staff, great food, and great music!

Fun little spot hidden under the bridge. The Fried mushrooms were on point and the hamburger steak was great too. The Mushroom Swiss burger was very flavorful but too greasy for me. As far as cleanliness, I noticed the vent on the ceiling in the middle of the room was extremely dirty and could use a very thorough cleaning. All the neon beer signs around the room were quite dirty as well. All in all it’s a good little place to get some good greasy bar food. The menu was quite vast so if you don’t want greasy there are many other options.

Idk how I’ve never been to George’s. It’s my type of place. It was a restaurant with a dive bar feel. The menu was huge. I went with the bacon cheeseburger and an order of cheese fries. Those cheese fries were freaking legit. They were just covered with cheese, no dry fries lol. The burger was seasoned really well and had a lot of bacon. My buddy got the spicy BBQ pork poboy and said it was great. There are at least 6 more things I want to try there.

Decided to try George’s after reading a number positive reviews about the poorboys and catfish. SO and I shared a seafood platter and shrimp remoulade salad. SO’s daughter got a mushroom burgers. Food came up fairly fast, which was a plus since we were hungry. Daughter loved the burger. We were surprised the burger did not come with a side of some kind for the price, $ 7.95. The $ 25 seafood platter was HUGE. Fries, a side salad and a large portion of fried catfish, shrimp and oysters. Each came with a different breading that complimented the seafood well. Great catfish and oysters. The shrimp remoulade salad was fresh and tasty. Our only complaint was the remoulade had a little too much horseradish. The food was good for a dive bar, but a little pricey for such an Establishment. We will go back, but not when we are looking for cheap eats and drinks.

I asked my son to take me to a place that offers local flavor, and since I don’t like seafood, this is a challenge. He brought me here and I liked it very much. An extensive menu with lots of sandwich choices. I have a California club, and it was pretty near perfect. He devoured his shrimp poboy. The young man busing the tables kept the place spotless. This dark dive has a real bar but is family friendly at the same time. The only reason this place didn’t eat five stars was because of the absolutely tasteless onion rings. So disappointed!

I had high expectations for this place, hearing that it was kind of a local legend. I ordered the doug special which is hamburger steak with cheese and bacon. Not the healthiest choice but I still didn’t expect it to be literally marinating in a puddle of grease along with my fries. I had to go up and ask for another order of fries because they were literally in edible and saturated with grease. However the atmosphere was cool, super divey with a lot of history. This will still probably be my last trip to George’s.

The«G» in G-E-O-R-G-E’s stands for GOOOD. This under-the-bypass gem is a hang out that I love to enter when I feel like being incognito. The bartenders are always nice so I sit there and order. They have really good po-boy’s; my favorite is ½ catfish po-boy with a special order of gooey jalapeño cheese fries. They have a wonderful bar selection and anything vodka does the trick for me to wash it all down.

We are from out of town and were looking for an authentic hole-in-the-wall place to get a po’boy. George’s did not dissapoint. An authentic dive bar that has amazing food and friendly staff. We ordered a shrimp po’boy, seafood gumbo, and the California BLT. All of it was fantastic!!! The girl that took our order said she could make a mean Margarita and she was right! All in all– I would recommend this place to everyone and will definitely look forward to coming here again if we ever get to vist Baton Rouge again.

As many reviewers have mentioned, this place is a totally dive, but completely awesome. Great food and something for everyone. It’s located off of Perkins Rd. right underneath the I-10 overpass. The bar/restaurant is totally dark and grungy. But at the same time, it felt very warm, and friendly. If I had kids, I wouldn’t mind bringing young ones in. Dollar bills are plastered to the walls and ceilings left by patrons. They have several flat screen tv’s; enough so that no matter where you sit you’ll have a good view. There are no servers. After walking in, you make your way to the opposite end of the bar. You’ll be greeted by the bartender who will explain the process and the menu which is on the wall behind the bar. You basically write down your own order, how you want it, on a ticket and he’ll put the order in. You then find your seat, and wait for them to call your name to pick-up. For a dive, they have a pretty good menu selection such as salads, po’ boys, regular entrees, and desserts. They are really known for their po’ boys and they have a huge selection to chose from. There most popular are the shrimp and catfish. I’ve had the catfish. I wasn’t incredibly impressed. They were pretty thin fillets, and I think that’s a Louisiana thing. Growing up I always had nice thick pieces. But it wasn’t bad. The batter they use is really good. I also had the oyster po’boy which was pretty good. Plenty of oysters and, again, great batter. They add just enough of their tasty mayo so you can taste it without it being overwhelming. Their po’boy bread is awesome; probably the best I’ve had. I’ve also had the seafood gumbo which isn’t too bad. Their fries aren’t anything special, so I’d get the gumbo instead. Everyone else at the table enjoyed their meal. The burgers look really good and so do the grilled shrimp and steamed veggies(one of the healthier choices on the menu). Prices aren’t too crazy. Some of the entrees seem like quite a bit, but you do get a lot of food.

Chicken Gumbo = Amazing! It is homemade from what the guy behind the bar told me. I had limited amount of time so I had to rush in, eat, & leave. I was able to do so. The bartender suggested adding some Louisiana hot sauce and it was awesome. I would definitely stop here again for that gumbo alone!!! The staff was also friendly. It is a bar though but it was very clean and had that Southern hospitality. I was extremely happy, thus I gave it 5 stars.

George’s is my kind of place. Located under the interstate, the divey atmosphere begins as you park. I felt like I was doing something wrong parking there, but the entire area was packed with cars. I thought only homeless people ate under overpasses, but George’s proved me wrong. Inside the place is a serious dive. If you are used to tablecloths and fanciness, this may not be the place for you. There are no servers at all. You just write down your order and hand it to the bartender. It seems like this method would cut down on errors so I was a fan. The seating is wherever you can get a spot. It was pretty packed on the day I went, but I was able to get a spot in the corner. As others have mentioned, the walls and ceiling are filled with personalized dollar bills. I should have added one to the collection, but I could not think of anything clever to write. For food I decided on cheese fries and a cheese burger po-boy. The cheese fries were a massive portion and more than enough food to share. The burger was properly cooked, flavorful, and went perfectly on the French bread. I don’t know if this is the best burger in Baton Rouge, but I sure enjoyed it. I will have to go back a bunch more times to make sure they’re consistent. If you like good food and a divey atmosphere, this is the place for you.
