My new favorite restaurant! Been 3 times in past couple of months. Consistently great food and service. LOVE the baby kale salad with their to-die-for champagne vinaigrette. Prime rib, mac & cheese, and grilled artichokes are my hubby’s go to favs. The manager is always friendly & personable. Oh, did I mention the carrot cake… best I’ve ever had!

Great Fresh food. Surprisingly the best Cheeseburger I have had in a long time! Prime rib is incredible here, because no one else in Baton Rouge can do it right. This is how is it truly supposed to be, medium rare and tender. Very attentive service and just a warm and inviting overall atmosphere. Great happy hour in the bar if you like wine or martinis!

I always enjoy my dining experience when I come here. From the food, to the service, to the convenient location, I can’t find a reason to complain. I love their salads. I’ve had several different ones for lunch & dinner, ahi tuna salad being a favorite. Tonight our waiter was Trey and he was wonderful. Attentive, knowledgable, and very friendly. I definitely recommend this place for any and all diners.

Just passing through after a kayak trip. We were pleasantly surprised — I usually avoid the chain style big dinner places at malls but this place does it right. Super attentive service they really have a good routine. The servers knew the menu very well, we had several question(I guess we were kind of picky that evening) and got great answers. Great burgers. I had the ground sirloin burger, the meat was very fresh and the burger was rather simple but quite tasty. Surprisingly the veggie burger my wife had was very good and was quite a big serving, substantially larger and more filling than mine. I eat both veggie and meat meals and would definitely order that veggie burger myself. Loved the mac n’ cheese too — nice thin baked and seasoned crust on the top really made it. The chocolate cake is excellent — not the best ever as they claim but whatever it’s really good. I ordered a Moscow Mule cocktail just for fun, I found it light and refreshing, not very strong overall.

Was amazing my grandmother got the ribeye that we shared and I gout the flounder. While the flounder was ok the steak was to die for. I remember going here when I was younger, however I remembered it being sub par. But I’m glad I went back they really have up themselves.

One of my fav restaurants. I love going here. The food and service is always perfect. I always have the crab cakes, they are made with lump crabmeat. They are the best crab cakes I’ve ever had, hands down. Great place for a romantic date!

Ooh, where to begin. Loved the set up as we walked in. Semi dark but cozy. The wine cabinets were placed all around the entrance of the restaurant. Mmm As we were seated, we ordered the deviled eggs, loved them, just perfect. Our drinks were good, soda were just right(very picky when not carbonated and not sweet) and merlot won’t superb. The main course was the best. Ordered prime rib with smashed, not mashed potatoes which was perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth with the side of au jus. The Emerald Coast Shrimp were simply to die for as well. Each plate was more than sufficient and none of us could eat more than half the plate, so we had to take it home. No room for dessert, this time. Would definitely recommend J. Alexander for any occasion even though it is a bit pricey but well worth it.

Merry Christmas! I have been wanting to visit this place, but always felt like it should be saved for a special reason. Well, this year the boss reserved a table there for our Christmas dinner. I guess that is a good enough reason! Lol My coworkers and I sat at the other end of the long table, which we dubbed the«children corner» and shared 2 appetizers: grilled artichoke and fried gulf shrimp. I loveeeeee artichoke even though it was hard to eat. I didn’t care for the dipping sauce it was paired with. The fried shrimps were typical, nothing special. I ordered the 18oz slow roasted prime rib, and my coworker next to me ordered the baby back ribs. Yummmm!!! I ordered my prime rib medium rare and it was PERFECT. It literally melted in my mouth. The«smash potato» was ok. I would have loved to traded out for an order of their skinny fries. Lol. Our server for the evening, Caitlin, was fabulous! She knew what we needed even before we could ask for it. I knew I wanted either the prime rib or their Steak Maui, but was indecisive about what wine paired well it. She recommended a good Merlot that was perfect. Dessert? How could we pass up?! My coworker and I split a piece of carrot cake and the boss lady shared a chocolate cake with her husband. The carrot cake was served warm, under this delicious cream cheese icing. Ahhh… heaven!

Spent date night with the BF here a few weeks ago. We both enjoyed it thoroughly. Based on our experience, nothing you get here is going to blow your mind with its creativity or uniqueness. They do the staples, and they do them well. I ordered the rotisserie chicken with smashed potatoes. The BF got the Emerald Coast Shrimp, subbing the sides for smashed potatoes and the«not your ordinary mac ‘n cheese.» Everything was solid. Portion sizes were huge — we said in the future for the price we would prefer to order one appetizer and one entrée for the two of us. What I truly enjoyed was the atmosphere and the service. Waiters were extremely attentive without being obtrusive. The low lighting and distance between tables created a very intimate atmosphere we both appreciated.

I went to J Alexander’s for the first time today. Though it has been in Baton Rouge many years I had not gone before I moved away, so today my sister treated me to lunch there. It was wonderful. For starters I love that it is such a beautiful restaurant. The dim lighting and rich fur you’re is extremely classy and a nice break from bright lights and noisy atmosphere. Our sever was so prompt and so efficient I am embarrassed that I forgot to get his name. He was at our table almost as soon as we settled in and took our drink order. He returned with them quickly and was so wonderful to tell us the specials and even told me some of his favorites since it was my first visit. My sister chose one of the specials of the day which was a pecan crusted trout. I took a bite and it was so tasty. They had pounded it very thin and the crust was light and not heavy in the least. The sauce they drizzled over it tasted like a mild hollandaise but not as rich. It was really a nice plate. And by the way… It was a huge serving! The fish took up practically the entire plate! See my pics for how beautiful it was! It came with Cole slaw but she was so full she could not finish it! I had the Emerald Shrimp. It was a heaping portion of shrimp. They use a light batter with just a hint of spice to it so I truly enjoyed it. It came with shoestring French fries and coleslaw but I truly could not finish either side! Such a great, great meal! I am so glad we went! I highly recommend it!

Have visited for drinks in the bar, business lunch for a decent salad and finally took the plunge for the full boat dinner. Prices are north of other comparable places and the menu has some decent selections. We were a bit disappointed in our dining experience that was over $ 100 without any alcohol or dessert. Artichoke app is pretty but pretty void of food as well. The hearts were not there at all and the leaves are not enough. $ 13 $ 29 Paneed Flounder came with cous cous and slaw and ended up being too heavily breaded and reminded us of Mrs. Paul’s fish fillets of a bit higher quality. $ 32 Ribeye with butter baked did not come with salad and was extremely fatty and cooked medium rare instead of medium but the outside close to over charred on grill. Dish showed some promise but overall did not deliver for the price. Service was solid even if a bit«different». May give them another try for dinner but order other items in order to be able to balance it out a bit but when you drop over $ 100 on app and two entrees the food needs to match.

So Js is def one of my favs in Baton Rouge. Of course I got the cypress salad and my friend got the chicken and smashed potatoes. I can’t speak much on there dish other that the presentation was beautiful. My cypress salad is amazing it hits all taste on the palate. From crunchy to salt to sweet to subtle! The croutons in this salad are simply unbelievable to me it taste almost like fried Mexican cornbread completely love it! I’ve been eating this salad for 2 – 3 years now I know I need to change it up but why fix something that ain’t broken!!!

My favorite place in Baton Rouge for a salad — hands down. I usually opt for the Thai Kai salad. It is absolutely perfect. I tend to like chopped salads and they do a good job with them. The chicken, peanut sauce and cilantro are yummy and a huge portion. Probably enough for two. Now, it is a $ 16 salad, so I wouldn’t expect anything less. This is the perfect spot for a business lunch. The service on my most recent visit was just okay. The waiter was very businesslike and not too warm(hence the four star rating) but the food here is always great, and I will definitely be back.

It’s been quite a night trying to find a place to have a simple cocktail and a little food! The first restaurant we tried was«not serving alcohol tonight»(!!!), and the second was out of ingredients for not one, but two drinks we ordered. After a brief stop in the parking lot of a third place, where a bus load of people were getting out, making the wait excessively long, we ended up at J. Alexander’s. Why didn’t we start here??? The wait staff was wonderful, the food was delicious, and the cocktails were perfection. I especially love that when you order a martini here, they bring you the extra from your shaker, tucked into a little glass of ice water! I’ve had steaks, Emerald Coast Shrimp, and the Croque Madame – all wonderful!

Best Romantic Date Night restaurant! Have to admit… it’s been a few years since we have been. But what a surprise! SERVICE: Exceptional! Our glasses were refilled before asked. Gave me a dark cloth napkin for my dark pants. Think we had 3 waiters take care of every possible need we had. Even the hostesses were sweet! FOOD: All I can say is WOW! I had the Steak Maui with loaded Mash. Horseradish dipping sauce was perfect to set this flavor off! Steak was PERFECT! Husband had the Tuna steak and it was cooked to perfection! Will be having those dishes again. DRINKS: We had the Grey Goose Dirty Martinis. The best I have ever had! The picture shows how they gave the extra in an ice bath to finish it off. All the drinks there are exceptional. PRICE: You get what you pay for! It is pricey but an amazing meal with cocktails averages $ 50 per person. If you wanted cheaper items they have good sandwiches and salads. But I recommend the splurge!

TALKABOUTWOW. Initially I have been here three times before and didn’t find anything spectacular about it. I honestly thought it was over-priced for sub-par food. However, this experience changed everything. I love Houston’s restaurant in New Orleans because of the Salmon Dip and Hawaiian Ribeye. Like I seriously dream about how flavorful their steak is. Lo and behold, J. Alexander’s has the same exact dishes! EXCEPTBETTER! At first I saw the Salmon Dip and it looked different from Houstons. The salmon was mixed in and melded with the creamy sauce and served as a spread. Versus at Houston’s they give you a chunk of salmon and a side of sauce. I liked the J. Alexander’s already had it mixed. The salmon dip was delicious. All I had to do was spread it on the toast! Next, the Maui Steak caught my eye. Maui is in Hawaii! That means it’s a Hawaiian ribeye! I ordered it medium. My first bite was so delectable. I’m not going to lie to you guys, the first time I ordered it it came out medium well. It was delicious but wasn’t cooked to my liking. I told the waitress and she happily told the chefs to make another one. They did and I’m so glad they did. The steak came out perfectly medium. Melt-in-your-mouth delicious, flavorful, much better than Houston’s Ribeye. Omg and it comes with«smashed potatoes» ! It’s flavored mashed potatoes! They’re amazing, creamy, perfectly whipped potatoes. Let me tell you, I’m sure they use a whole potato per serving. Maybe I gave it more stars then it deserved because I hated my server. However, I’m just so so happy that there’s a «Houston’s» in Baton Rouge.

I have always loved J. Alexander’s! Great food, great atmosphere. I stick to the spinach and queso dip for an appetizer and had the burger for my entrée! Never disappoints. I did not give it five starts b/c of no «real happy hour» & the prices of the drinks are about the average of an entrée(but the drinks to come with the«overflow» set in another glass an for your disposal, so that kind of makes up for it). The bartender(guy) was great.

So I went with my mom and it was pretty great! I love the feel of the place and it’s comfortable! I ordered a merlot which was fabulous(it was the second one from the top 9 $ a glass). And then we got the spinach & queso dip. Chips were super salty and I wasn’t crazy about it for the price. The Alexa salad with the house dressing is probably one if my favorite salads ever. Seriously ate all of it. My mom got the club sandwich and she loved it. It’s a lot of food for a sandwich. For my entrée, fish of the day with white sauce. It was spicy and great and it was a big entrée and it was seriously so great. Not too heavy. Also speghetti squash for a side is my favorite Bc it’s healthy but tasty. I had a wonderful time with my mom & a wonderful meal. Everytime I come here, I try something different and I can honestly say I have always loved what I have tried and service has never disappointed — one of my favorite restaurants. If you happen to be watching your weight, get the tuna salad ! And It’s tasty
