I went to undergrad at LSU and I absolutely loved eating here during my time there. My friend was getting married and this was the first stop we made immediately we got into baton rouge. Their pulled pork is AMAZING!!! I literally haven’t been able to find anyone who makes pulled pork as good! If you eat pork, I’ll definitely recommend the pulled pork with steamed rice.

Disgusting place! I had lunch there today and found a large piece of plastic(dark green) in the dish. Don’t know where that comes from!!! Also the attitude of the owner is so irritating. I still pay for the rest of the dish BTW. I am so done with Koi, and will spread the words to my friends!

First time going there. The place looks decent. Big variety of sushi but could not find any baked. The salmon plate was good. The pink lady sushi roll was good. The food had something in it that my stomach has been growling and turning all day long. The server was nice and helpful. The pregnant employee does not seem nice; She did not meet and greet people as the only server there was extremely busy, alone. The salad was only ice burg not romaine or spinach but the dressings were good; wasabi ranch and the other ginger. I thought it was extremely expensive as the one roll was $ 15. May try the restaurant again and give it a second chance. Prices for sushi are very expensive out here not like los Angeles, sushi prices are much cheaper and better service. 3 starts for me.

My friends and I discovered this place during a hurricane, lol. So this place will likely be open on days that most places are closed. I haven’t dined here in months but when I lived much closer to campus, I used to come here all the time for sushi. Salmon avocado and spicy tuna rolls, all the way! The owner is nice and friendly. The staff is the same. Sushi rolls are reasonably priced, possibly one of the cheapest places that I’ve tried in Baton Rouge. Also the rolls come out pretty quickly, not sure why other reviews say they’ve gotten slow service because I would be in and out within 30 minutes– that’s pretty fast to me. The rolls are pretty good but if you know quality sushi, your opinion may differ.

I have been wanting to try this place for a while now, I pass it all the time. The prices are very reasonable for a college student. The sushi is decent, however it wasn’t the fish inside the sushi that turned me off it was the rice. It seemed hard to chew. I got a basic salmon roll and it was decent. I also like that they are open a little later than usual. I would come here again.

Stopped here for lunch while touring LSU. It’s about what I’d expect for a pan-Asian restaurant in a decidedly non-Asian city. The prices are insanely cheap($ 16 nets you 4 full rolls – unheard of the Yankee terroir in which I reside), and the quality is so-so. We didn’t go for the special, but instead tried the following: Salmon Avocado Roll — The rice was lacking, not vinegar-y enough Koi Beef Noodle Soup — Way too much soy sauce, not enough beef and entirely too salty Ants on a Tree — Missing the leaves for this popular dish(the leaves are the napa cabbage). Also way too much salt and chili sauce Fried Oyster Roll — So much batter. I would never have known there was an oyster underneath The manager hails from China and is pretty nice, but I just can’t rave about this place. Sors, y’all

Ate here today with two of my friends. It was my first time here and I really enjoyed my meal. The setting is quaint and tidy. I ordered clear soup, a tuna avocado roll, and a dynamite roll. The clear soup was served piping hot, and was slightly different from the clear soup I’m used to having. Instead of green onions and noodles, there were pieces of sliced asparagus and tofu — in addition to the usual garnish of mushrooms. It was an interesting take on the simple soup, and I have no complaints. The tuna avocado roll was fresh and delicious. The dynamite roll was wonderful, just the right amount of spice! Overall this place was great.

First off, the waitress was very nice. The food was cooked to order, it didn’t take long to come out, and it came out hot. But, it wasn’t good. The clear broth soup was basically steaming hot water with some sliced asparagus; the flavor of the vegetable hadn’t even infused. Truthfully, I’m not convinced the soup was even ready to be served; we had to pour the soy sauce from the table in the soup to have any sort of flavor. The steamed pork dumplings were cooked well and perfectly seared, but the pork filling was flavorless as well; very, very, bland. The spicy beef dish I had was served over cabbage and was actually pretty good. No complaints there. But, I don’t like how they serve one large bowl of rice when multiple people order an entrée instead of serving the rice individually; its charged individually so I think it should be served that way. Plus, other people’s sauces got in it when they served themselves and it was just served to us at room temp(which was surprising since everything else was really hot). I don’t have a sensetive stomach but I did have to get my food«to go» because my stomach was huuuurting by the time we left. So, good points: nice servers, quick service, hot food, and late hours. Not so good points: food isn’t very good(sushi was good though) Silver lining: If your experience is like me, its a great way to *ahem, clean you out… and quick. 20 mins… tops. So, there. –__–

I absolutely love their sushi. They have very cheap but delicious sushi. I always get the snowcrab roll and the avocado roll they are both simple rolls, but they are so delicious! Their chinese menu is also wonderful. The cumin chicken is a must-order! Koi Sushi is one of the best sushi places in Baton Rouge.

This is 100% the best sushi in Baton Rouge. Huge rolls and fresh! The white sauce is also to die for on the speciality rolls.

It’s been several years since I’ve visited Koi, sorry to say. I’m not in that neighborhood too often as of late. Most recent experience was middling. The food I found somewhat mediocre compared to previous visits. I ordered one of my longtime favorites, eggplant in garlic sauce. It was served promptly and piping hot, but I found the sauce to be overly sweet and sticky for my liking. The young man waiting on our table was a bit fumbling, maybe due to inexperience. We had to get another server involved in order to get the orders taken properly. After the initial confusion on the orders, however, the food was served quickly and all seemed to go well. Koi still deserves credit for having one of the most diverse and unique menus in Baton Rouge when it comes to Asian cuisine. Certainly a culinary cut above your standard BTR Chinese buffet.

I had sushi delivered to my hotel for dinner. It was very fresh and well prepared. I got the sushi sampler and the Tokyo roll. Both were fantastic. Delivery was quick also.

My wife and I decided we wanted to go out for Japanese for date night. We weren’t sure where to go so our babysitter recommended Koi. She’s a student at LSU and said it was practically on campus. I knew exactly where it was. Koi in my memory was the place that threatened to tow my car when Louie’s was in it’s old location which is right next to Koi. Koi is not open on Sunday morning’s but they would tow anyone who parked in their 5 car lot that was eating at Louie’s even if Koi wasn’t open. It kind of turned me off and thought, I’ll never go there. What a bunch of snobs. Well, low and behold, here we are on our way down State St and sure enough all 5 spots are full. There’s a 24 hour pay lot that $ 3 for 2 hours right next to it. We lucked out and someone left and I got a spot, but the restaurant capacity is bigger than there are parking spots. So be sure to take at least 3 $ 1 bills with you so you can pay the box for parking. NOTE: Don’t park in the shopping center across the street, there apparently is a tow truck company that stakes out the lot for people that don’t visit the shops they park in front of. So pay your $ 3 in the lot to avoid getting your car towed. Now on to my review. I’m a big connoisseur of ambiance. The restaurant has the typical bamboo type wood floor and tables. Sushi bar in the back and tables for larger groups in the front near the door while more cozy tables are in the back. We sat at a large table for two. Menus were at bit worn, needed to be replaced. I noticed there is a 2nd menu for Chinese food and on the flip side was another menu with Tea with Boba. I got really excited, the waiter came and asked for our drink order and she told me they didn’t have any of the teas available. I was definitely not happy about that. My wife got the seaweed salad with sashimi and the spicy tuna roll and the veggie roll. While I got the clear soup, order of Wasabi Hot Wings and a Ninja Roll. My wife pointed out that all the rolls on the menu either had jalapeño, siracha, spicy tuna or wasabi in most of the combinations, more than usually seen in other sushi places. I just thought to myself college kids like dangerous things(like the scene in Jackass where the guy snorted wasabi soy sauce). The Seaweed Salad with Sashimi was $ 12.95, and with it was a huge portion of seaweed adorned with ¾″ inch thick pieces of tuna, salmon, and other fish that was fresh and melted like butter, amazing! The spicy tuna roll and veggie roll were kinda bland actually. The one thing we always look out for at Sushi restaurants is the the color of the ginger. Apparently white ginger is better because the pink ginger is artificially colored. Koi uses the white ginger and it was tasty. The other thing my wife and I judge whether a sushi place is good or not is by the veracity of the wasabi used. If my nose doesn’t twitch and my head turn sideways, it’s no good. that definitely was not the case here. Their wasabi was spot on awesome. The clear soup was really good, at almost $ 2 couldn’t go wrong. Now I got my soup and my Ninja Roll and my wife got her Spicy Tuna and her Veggie roll before she got her seaweed salad and I got my hot wings. It was like Main Course first, appetizers second. So they weren’t exactly paying attention to order of food going out. For that they lose a star. If they can get that right, then I’ll bump this review to 5. I don’t think I’ve ever had a restaurant do that to me, ever!(…seriously!). So be sure to be clear with them about the order in which you want your food to come out. I guess they’re thinking college kids don’t really care, so why should we? By the time the wings had come out I was done with my roll. Now I will say hot wings usually come already smothered in whatever sauce you order them in. Not here, they bring out two little dipping bowls and 4 pieces of fried chicken wings. They were quite large too. The dipping sauces consisted of a blue cheese type dip and the other a Wasabi Siracha concoction with a little sweet added to it. It was HOT! but darn it was good. definitely recommend that, it was only $ 3.95 and totally worth it. It would have been better if they tossed the wings in the sauce before serving it, but I suppose you can ask them to do that for you. I would say if you really like hot things, ask them to bring the sauce as a side for your sushi if you want something hotter than wasabi in soy sauce to dip your fish. So for $ 50, we had a healthy amount of sushi for two in a pleasant dining experience. We’ll definitely be back, and hopefully they’ll remember in which order appetizers go out. And maybe they’ll have the Boba tea. So if you’ve been to Sushi Yama or Tsunami but don’t want the hefty bill, or you’ve been to Hello Sushi or Wahada like we have and just want something different, then come here, the quality of the sushi will not disappoint you.

There’s a lot to love about Koi. First off, they have a huge menu. It’s super cheap. They deliver. The sushi is excellent and they have a huge selection of rolls. Koi also has a large menu of American style Chinese food. The actual restaurant is small, but the service is friendly and they get their food out fast. Are there better sushi places in Baton Rouge? Sure, but Koi is cheap, quick, and delicious.

Went in for bubble tea and a roll for lunch and was informed that they were out of tapioca and didn’t have any fruit jelly. That was okay, I guess, but I stayed and ordered an eel roll. Now, I’ve had some poorly put together sushi in my day, but this thing was barely wrapped, there was next to no eel, and the avocado was just mush.

Ordered delivery from here on grub hub since it was the only sushi option in the area. The food came quickly, in about 30 minutes. I got the spider roll(soft shell crab) and the ninja roll(salmon & jalapeño topped with eel, imitation crab, and avocado). Both had really good flavors and were big pieces but the sushi fell apart easily which became extremely frustrating. The rolls were too loose and I ended up with a big bowl mixture, a delicious one though.

Overall, it seems to be a nice place to go if you are in the Northgate area, want Japanese(or Chinese), but aren’t feeling Kaminari. I will be back to try more from the menu. I went the other night with some friends after hearing about Koi for the last two years. It was a weird experience. My waiter was friendly, but I found out he is a student, and while friendly didn’t provide very good service. My friend ordered the gyoza dumplings fried, but they were brought steamed. I know it was a simple mistake, but it was kind of annoying. The waiter did tell me that the single best thing they make is the sweet and sour pork. They take pork, smash it into thin pieces then fry them and serve them with the sauce. It comes with a side of rice. I enjoyed the pork, but it was not great. I guess it is just not my kind of dish. I ended up ordering the Bubble Tea. I got the Green Apple. It was delicious, but it was a little unnerving because the tapioca was black. I have never seen tapioca that color before. It tasted fine, and as I am in relatively good health, I am fairly sure it hadn’t gone bad(not that I know if tapioca can go bad). Anyway, once I got past the weird color, it was really good.

I have Been to this place a couple times. The first time I went I ordered a bowl of miso soup and green salad to start, and the Miso literally tasted like salt water. Yes, I have had miso and I know its normally salty, but this was like eating ramen soup. The green salad was decent, but its a salad and anyone can make that. I ordered a couple rolls and some sashimi also. The sashimi was good, but the selection was not anything amazing. They also did not have any specialty items

Get Lunch D– It is a steal at $ 6.49. Comes with Crunchy roll, Snowcrab roll, and Spicy tuna roll. You get 4 pieces of each roll but they are huge! It was too much for me to finish. My husband got the $ 7.49 lunch combo(can’t remem if it was A B or C) but his came with 4 different rolls(4 pieces of each-16 total). He didn’t even come close to finishing his.

Not good at all. I had a beef soup. I took a bite of the beef and had to take it was so tough that I had to take it out of my mouth after working on it for over a minute. Unfortunately, it happened three more times, so I just tried to have the soup. The stock was very obviously made from a cube, really fake flavor. What’s sad is that my friend recommended this soup after he had a good experience with it six months ago. He had the same thing and didn’t like it at all. There’s good potential for it, but honestly, you have to do better than beef stock from a cube and shank that hasn’t been properly cooked. We ordered a couple of sushi rolls on the side and I was satisfied enough with them to avoid giving a dreaded one-star rating.
