This place is fantastic, exactly what BR needs. So often, when you want to hear live music, one must make the trek to New Orleans. This place gets great musical talent and the staff really wants to accomodate. Beer selection is great, not to mention $ 2 pbr’s and high life. Great white russians. Nice outdoor space, good acoustics. Look forward to coming back.

I have only visited Mud & Water once to see a band. I like the set-up. The stage and bar are a good distance apart, meaning you can mingle at the bar or enjoy the band. There is ample seating. Also, the outdoor patio area is great. Drink prices are very reasonable as well.

I’ve made the trip from New Orleans to Baton Rouge three times to see bands playing at Mud & Water. Each time I go back it grows on me more and more. I really love the feel and look of the place. The bar is a good size, there’s plenty of floor space, it’s dark but not too dark inside, I love the built in seating along the walls and the outside patio space is great. I usually stick with beer here and the prices aren’t bad either.

Ok, so this place is pretty hipster. But every once and a while you have to get your hipster on, right? I’ve only been once but I liked the set up a lot — big bar in the back away from the dancing people and the stage with a pretty sizeable outdoor area for hanging out when the weather is nice. Great drink prices too, when I went it was something like $ 7 for a beer and a shot… what more can you really ask for? As other reviewers have stated, it’s very similar to Red Star, but I feel like this place is better suited for live music because of the tremendous amount of space and Red Star is better for kickin’ it with your friends at a normal conversation level.

This place is the spiritual successor to Baton Rouge’s beloved Red Star. Most of the staff were previously employed by Red Star and the manager is the former manager of Red Star. It’s a very cool bar with a huge patio. It has a lot of potential as a music venue and a place to hang out. It is located in the old L bar building which has been lightly spruced up. It has been kind of slow when I’ve gone, but it’s always been a good time.
