This park is located in the Broadmore neighborhood directly across from the Baton Rouge Police HQ. It was my first time to visit this park and I was very impressed. It was around 7:30 am and the park was full of walkers. Almost everyone of the people walking smiled and greeted me with a cheerful good morning. There were lots of birds chirping and squirrels skittering about and even though you could see Airline Hwy it had a woodsy feel about it. A drainage ditch runs through the center of the park, but unlike the ditch that borders the Old Hammond Hwy park, this one does not smell. The ground is slanted so any rain runs into the ditch and the three foot bridges add to the charm of this hidden BREC gem. The walking trail is in good condition, 3 laps and you’ve walked a mile. The playground is simple and clearly caters to the smaller kids. There is a lighted tennis court, a basket ball half court, covered picnic pavilion, lots of benches and strategically placed trash barrels throughout the park. A great place to get away from the fast pace of city life. I plan to visit again soon in my walking shoes. Walking with cheerful folks in a setting like this one is a real motivator.

Évaluation du lieu : 4 Baton Rouge, LA
One of the only parks in the area attracting visitors from Villa del Rey to North and West of Florida Blvd. There’s a walking /running track around the outside of the park that’s measured(I forget how many times around is a mile), a single basketball goal, some children’s equipment(teeter totter, swing set, slides), and one pavilion in case of rain and a tennis court. Basically this is one of the most ignored parks in the BREC system. There have been no park upgrades in years despite the fact that park utilization has increased 10-fold. That being said, it’s a wonderful multicultural experience given the demographics of the area. BREC needs to pay more attention to this place and perhaps fence off an area for dogs as the nearest dog park is 5 miles or more away depending on where you live. There’s a large open space for playing fetch, but people who let their dog’s off leash risk a fine. Also, even without a bark park, there is no provision for bags to pick up dog poop when you walk your dog on leash so bring your own doggie bags. Wonderful place, too bad BREC is so busy concentrating on water parks and parks in the South East part of the Parish. A full size basketball court and more equipment for children would also be nice.
