Ordered the Brisket Sandwich with two sides, instead of the buffet, and the food was pretty good. The customer service seemed fairly nice and there was plenty of space for seating.

Ok this is my favorite BBQ place in Baton Rouge. Yah there are a few issue but it’s where i go for good affordable tasty BBQ. Once about two years ago I bought a larger spread for a special event for my son a once in a lifetime Scouting thing and the food was very popular at his special event. I’d personally want to thank the people that work there. I’m sure its hard work and competing in the food service business is a tough business.

Let me start off with this disclaimer. I love barbecue, I go to every restaurant that I can to broaden my view on my favorite style of food. And with my experience I have come to the realization that the more run down the place is the better the food. This being said Podnuhs should have been one of the better places I’ve been too based off of its looks. I pulled up to this restaurant pretty excited to have a barbecue joint close to my new job. I walked in, saw how rundown it was and thought I am in for a surprise. I noticed only two other groups in there on a Monday at 12 noon. That’s a huge red flag right there. I asked the guy behind the counter how it worked and he told me basically $ 8 for two meats(sausage, chicken, pulled pork) and two sides and«Texas toast.» Let me start off by saying the Texas toast was only half buttered. I knew if they couldn’t get the toast right then I’m in for a disappointment. The guy gave me my 1⁄8 of a pound of pulled pork and a few slices of sausage. Then I had to choose between which side to choose that looked the least disgusting. They had the watered down barbecue sauce in a big bin and I took a generous scoop. I’m not go into how bad this barbecue tasted, but I will tell you it’s the worst I had in 100+ barbecue restaurant visits. So I finished everything and was left hungry to top it off. I’m a very slim guy too so good luck to anyone over 150 pounds. Also business people beware. They don’t vent the smoke off well so you will be in the office later smelling like hickory smoke. In no way was this written off as a bad experience or confrontation with an employee. This is just my honest review of this place. And if people keep giving this place anything over two stars, I need to open my own place up that will blow their socks off.

I’m not gonna lie, I wasn’t expecting much coming in for the Saturday buffet, but I’ve never been and my SO has been wanting to try it out so why not? The restaurant itself is nothing fancy, definitely more of a working man’s spot, even on a Saturday afternoon there were several construction crews eating. There were flies buzzing around everywhere, which while it really adds to the BBQ ambiance, flies are a real pain in the ass while you are eating. I decided to get the buffet, while my SO got the ribs. The cool thing is, any meal gets a pass through the buffet of sides, which is corn on the cob, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw, baked potatoes, pickled hot peppers(a staple with any chicken or ribs), and banana pudding. With the buffet, you can get any combination of ham, pulled pork, sausage, or BBQ chicken and you get 2 trips. The first time, you get hand cut of any option, the second time, you have to get the meat off of the buffet line. I found the ham to be dry and not too flavorful, the chicken was good but dry from being in the warmer I assume, and the sausage and pulled pork were actually pretty tasty dipped in their BBQ sauce. As for the sides, the macaroni and cheese was VERY runny but tasted alright, the baked beans were good — FULL of meat scraps and lots of flavor. I think if they were fresh and not sitting on the line all day, they would have been even better. The rest of the sides were just okay, mostly pre-packaged stuff but for under $ 9, what do you expect? My SO did say the ribs were some of the best he’s had, so maybe the smartest idea is to get a rib combo instead of the buffet and then just grab your sides as you pass through. Honestly, for $ 9, I left miserably full and overall pleased with what I ate. It’s not something I’ll eat regularly, but if someone is looking to stuff their face on BBQ on a limited budget, I’d suggest it. BTW — their sweet tea is ONPOINT.

Terrible service. The older woman working was so nasty and mean. Like a BBQ nazi! Uncalled for really. We paid $ 44 for a to-go family box. When we got home there were two tablespoons of pork. Ridiculous for the price we paid. Will not be back!

Friday night, Saturday night and sunday all day there is a «buffet» for $ 8.59 which does not include ribs or beef but does include chicken, sausage, pulled pork and ham — plus vegetables. You may pass through a total of 2 times. Food has always tasted good to me here although sometimes dry. The vegetables — baked potato, cole slaw, corn on the cob, baked beans — what else??? — anyway, standard BBQ fare – is good comfort food. The ice tea tastes swell — the staff has generally been nice and polite — this is what it is. I like it.

I have a soft spot for this place. Great tea, and usually great food. Not a big fan of the R&B and gospel music that seems to be on lately but I try to go to Podnuhs at least once a month.

3meat plate ribs, pulled pork, and sausage. Smallest pulled pork portion ever and that was the best thing on the plate. Ribs smelled of some mysterious bad odor and the sausage was bland and old hard… Oh yeah when I got my food from the drive-thru the guy that gave it to me had an unlit cigar that had already been lit previously.

Great place for lunch. These guys got four stars because of the extras and the goodies. Meats are fairly average with the ham being my favorite. But I’m a huge pig fan at heart so any will do. Sides are great. Try the potato salad and green beans, but the baked beans are a must. They toss in a couple of different kinds of pickled/spicy peppers to suck on for an after meal treat and sliced onion that I think goes well with the beans and meat. You also get toasted bread with your meal and a cup of their bbq sauce that is served temperature hot. TIP: Eat(or sip on it as I do) while it is hot! Much better this way. Travel to BR a lot and always try to stop here if I can.

I tried this place out recently. By the rating I gave, you can gather that I wasn’t impressed. The place inside isn’t very organized. The«Order Here» sign is blocked by a pole. I stood at that point trying to get service and it took a while still. Also, it looks like they’re stuck in the half-way between a buffet and a place where you order food. On to the food: I had the three rib combo with baked beans and a potato. The ribs clung tightly to the bone, none of the fall-off-the-bone action. The sauce tasted off like one flavor overpowering everything, including the pork. I took a side of sauce with me for the potato. I tasted it – there was enough vinegar in that batch to pickle an entire pig. Perhaps I got a bad batch?(Everyone else seems to like it.) I sure hope they don’t have surveillance cameras, because I made a face that I don’t ever want anyone to see. Honestly, if you’re going to own a BBQ shop, you have to make good BBQ sauce. The baked beans were all right. The potato was lukewarm.

The sauce could be spicier but all around good. Try the pulled pork.

Just got take-out here, bomb. The ribs, so good!!! The BBQ sauce had a kick to it and the meat was just sliding off the ribs! Perfect. The chicken was good too. The potato salad was funny to me with a sour taste but I mixed the BBQ with it and it was good.

Redundant as it may sound, I’m insanely fanatical about bbq. I hole up in my house when the food network runs bbq competition marathons. I’ve spent countless hours perfecting my own rubs, marinades, sauces, etc. Through years of trial and error, and consuming massive amounts of ribs, pulled pork, and brisket, I feel I’ve become somewhat of a BBQ expert. That being said, I used to be a fan of Podnuh’s. I thought their rubs were decent. They put a good smoke to their meats and cooked them down to the right textures. Sauces had good flavor. And their baked beans… unbelievably delicious. I used to eat there quite a bit. Sometimes I would even drive there just to get baked beans to serve as a side dish to my own meals at home. But then there was an incident. About a year ago, my parents were in town visiting from Michigan. One evening, we decided to go scoop some podnuh’s from their drive-thru. We ordered 4 different individual meals and took them home. My dad, at about 6’1″, 250 lbs, ordered the three-meat combo. However, we discovered that his box only contained one meat: about three bones of ribs. Not nearly enough for a man his size. My wife called to complain. When she finally got a manager on the phone, this exchange actually happened: Wife: we ordered a three-meat combo, but only got a one-meat combo. MGR: So? Wife: So? So we ordered a meal that was supposed to have three different meats in it, but instead got three bones of ribs. MGR: So what? It’s only about $ 2 difference. Wife: That’s not the point. MGR: There’s nothing I can do about it now. We’re closed. WIfe: Well, I hope you would do something to make this better. Don’t you have a list or something for these types of incidents? MGR: Fine. I’ll put you down on the board. We don’t know if he ever put us on the«board». I haven’t been back since and don’t plan to ever return. Their complete lack of any concern for good customer service deems them unworthy of our patronage in my book.
