Don’t plan on getting drunk here. There is one beer on display and no mixed drinks in sight and at $ 7 a pop well you know… Although the sizzle from the grill sounds tantalizing, the fact that they call this place a steakery makes me think of steak-ums. It is good for people watching, but sitting here not ordering anything makes feel like I’m being watched.

Admittedly, this is the first and only eatery… er…steakery anyone will see when visiting Baton Rouge Airport. The rest of the food is on the other side of security gate, but as I’ve mentioned in another view, it’s not a pretty sight( ). Red Baton may look fancier than the other airport cafes(#1), yet ironically carries the simplest menu of them all. What they sell here, they produce reasonably well — sandwiches, soups, and a little breakfast in the morning. Staff here is mind numbingly slow, but fast service isn’t exactly an expectation around these parts. I’ve had their gumbo($ 5) for a light lunch once, it came with a sandwich(Combo $ 9) and it was like a mini shrimp poboy that was surprisingly decent. Drinks are self serve here, but are airport pricey. Another thing worth noting is they actually have some seating with mini tables out front. There is usually very few people eating here, so there is always room. The seating is right next to the baggage claim area and makes for a good spot for people watching. If I’m picking someone up at the airport and can’t wait to grab food on the outside, I wouldn’t be surprised to find myself parked here. ____________ (#1) It doesn’t take much.
