My love affair with The Rum House began a few years back while I was living in New Orleans. I lived in Mid City, a few houses down from my best friend. on our declared girls’ days, we would go uptown to magazine street and spend our day stopping into random places, grabbing a drink, shopping at the local second hand places, and repeating that process until we’ve acquired enough material belongings to feel feminine again. the booze helped. that being said, Rum House’s drinks(and henceforth, happy hour deals) are to die for. every foodie out there has that one keyword they look for on any and all menus. and when we see it, we HAVE to order it. for some it’s «cheese sauce», for others it’s «pan fried». for me, it’s «mussels» that’s right. I’m constantly on the prowl for THEPERFRCT bowl of steamed mussels. Would you believe me if I told you I found it at Rum House? the broth is just delightful. a coconut and tomato based broth, laden with shaved jalapeño, translucent onions and bright lime juice… the perfect creamy blend of spice and acidity cloak the mussels in a way that can only be described as high-fiving Poseidon himself. moving on to the rest of the menu… I’m also one of those people who will order 3 – 5 smaller things in an effort to build the perfect sampler dish of an establishment. at rum house, not only do they have a list of 15 different tacos to pick from, you can order them a la carte! The Mr Biggs Plate in particular($ 15) comes with 4 tacos of your chosing, a side and a beef patty. dude. don’t let those beef patties get by you, they’re to die for. for my sides, I usually get the roasted poblano & Manchego polenta(side note — save your leftover mussel broth and drizzle some over this polenta. you won’t regret it) I once tried their Mac n cheese, and was so disappointed because all I could taste was the overwhelming flavor of garlic powder. their fresh salsa has a nice, smokey roasted pepper flavor to it that’s incredibly addicting. don’t even get me started on the queso… it’s so hard to write this review, because everything on the menu is stellar and you really can’t go wrong. do yourself a favor and come here with a big party so you can taste a little bit of everything.

Very relaxed environment. Went on a Saturday night. No wait for a table as well as super quick service. Our waitress was incredibly nice never left our drinks empty. As for the food it all depends on the large variety available. From what I saw all very colorful and flavorful.

A couple consistencies with this place… 1. It’s loud. No, like really loud. However, it comes with the atmosphere so it’s not really a bad thing. If you want a bit of a quieter evening try the outdoor seating on a nice day. 2. The food is good… and fresh! I have been quite a few times and the food has never disappointed me. I typically get some sort of selection of tacos and each one is so delicious. This latest time my friend got the Caribbean Jerk rotisserie chicken and O M G, it was good! 3. Intend to drink. I mean after all, it is called the Rum House. My drink of choice here is the Painkiller and that it does. Every single one I’ve been it’s been mixed to absolute perfection. A few tips to help you on your visit. Tuesday is taco night.(You can’t beat $ 2 tacos!) so expect the wait time to be lengthy. You may choose to sit at the bar but in my opinion, the bar seats are comfy but are too far away from the counter. Also, the outside area is very nice and also good for a larger party. They even have heaters for chillier nights. The service here is nothing to write home to your mom about, however it isn’t bad. I would say on the higher end of average. Overall, if I were asked where to get a festive dinner with delicious drinks, I’d say Rum House! Great place!

We stopped here before going out one night and loved it. Sat at the bar outside and snacked on scrumptious nachos. The employees were super friendly, the bartender was really attentive(my glass was never empty). Really fun place to go for delicious food and fun atmosphere!

As a fellow Caribbean I really enjoy this restaurant it is my favorite place to eat in Baton Rouge. I love the coconut flavored rice and the chicken. The food is amazing, wonderful service and staff that are very attentive. Nice environment and they play reggae music. They also have these amazing coconut biscuits. The portion sizes are perfect. Try the damn good nachos, the name suits it really well. :)

Once again the Rumhouse has exceeded our expectations. We just don’t know how it could get any better… Oh wait, I know, we could live next door! This is the first year in ten years that we haven’t been to the Carribean. So the Rumhouse is our pacifier. Atmosphere, music, service, food and drink make this our favorite venue of all. We were even able to purchase some of the lime cream sauce to take home. It will surely add zest to anything we make at home. Irie mon ot da Rumhouse!

The atmosphere is nice and I’m sure this place is great for happy hour but at 1pm maybe you should look elsewhere. Needless to say I was disappointed in the food. My coworker and I both ordered the Mr. Biggs plate(4 taco combo). Our dishes seems to take awhile to make even though the place was pretty empty. I ordered: Calypso Beef — the beef was cold and dry, I was expecting a nice charred grilled flavor but all I tasted was sweetness. The guacamole was alright. Jerk Chicken — do you like chopped chicken covered in a crappy bbq sauce(this taco may be for you)? When I hear jerk chicken, I want chicken that is sweet, spicy and an explosion of flavors. This chicken only had the sweet part down, only a mild flavor here. Crispy Fish — the coleslaw was tasty. The fish on the other hand was cold, and dry. Much like if they were trying to create fish jerky in the back. I like my fried fish hot, moist, tender, flaky, and seasoned well… this had none of that Chopped Shrimp — the grilled shrimp were cold, tough(overcooked), and no flavor. The rest of the taco was good though which helped out the shrimp… the black beans and queso were good(not hard to make queso though). side of choice: black beans — very good, best thing on the plate. I had good flavor and it was 1 of the 2 hot items on my plate. Beef patty(meat pie) — good, I liked the light curry flavor in the meat and the sauce on top. It came out the fryer, so this was hot as well. My coworker had a few different items: Carolina — he enjoyed this the most. He is a fan of the vinegar and bbq Chili Glazed sweet — shrimp were cold and it was just sweet Jerk Chicken — he agrees with me about the jerk Fried Oyster — didnt say much Mac and cheese — dry and gritty… He said it was mediocre. Mac &cheese should be smooth and creamy guys/girls… Beef patty — not a fan So overall the tacos fillings all seem premade and scooped into the tacos… This may be the reason why everything lacks any flavor what so ever, just cook in big batches and store it until needed. Maybe they are just providing the flavor from the condiments on top. If they are doing that then the turn around for a taco is really slow being all you have to do is scoop some ingredients into a flour tortilla. If they are«cooking» the taco filling when it is ordered then the chefs need to go back to school… For the price I would rather go any other taco place around BR to get fresh, made to order tacos at a better price point. If i ever come back i would only get the beef patty starter and a side of black beans. I rated this a 2 star but its more like 1.5

A secondary location to the original in New Orleans, rum house in Baton Rouge does a great job on recreating the lovely atmosphere of what is rum house. Overpriced tacos and delicious drinks. Two things that sum up the overall feeling of the establishment. I LOVE the ceviche tacos that are in the appetizers list. However the last time I had it, it was way too much mango instead of tuna. Too much mango, not enough tuna. The flavor was on point and I loved it. It’s ceviche placed inside of a fried shell instead of given chips. It’s a great concept. As a tradition; I always order the Damn Good Nachos — no beans because I can’t eat beans. The don’t disappoint but I never am able to finish it. Overall? Good service, good food, big prices.

Great relaxed feel and great toco’s and drinks. I recommend the crunchy fish, and the jerk chicken taco. Nice big back patio with cool rope swings.

Always a Good Time! I hadn’t been to the Rum House in a few months, so it was time to go back. One of my co-workers told me about a Key Lime drink that they have, and that was enough of a reminder for me and my husband to go! Well, I ordered the Key Lime Coconut drink, and it was sooo yummy! It has graham crackers crumbs around the rim, and I gotta tell you — it made the night very fun. I ordered their Rum House salad, which has spinach and toasted nuts, and goat cheese. Got the small one, with a few plantains on the side(you gotta have those; they are THEBEST), and it was all good after that. The Rum House is good whether you sit indoors or outdoors, whether you go during the day or at night, whether it’s a weekday or a weekend — you just can not go wrong. Great service, great menu items, and great prices. They have happy hour drink prices Oh, they have some locally-made rums — we had a satsuma one, and a praline one, as part of a rum flight, and they were great!

I mean… YES! Awesome service, extensive menu and great atmosphere. The food is delicious and full of flavor. I order the Nachos and the portion was ririduclas the cheese was perfect and the brisket on it was full of flavor. All the signature drinks from the Pain Killer to the Rum Punch was potent and full of flavor, excellently recommended from the bartender. The Caribbean feel is so refreshing and the hustle and bustle of resturant adds to the excitement of the resturant. Defiantly a new favorite in Baton Rouge!

So this place I must say is beautiful decorated and I did enjoy the ambiance. We went on Taco Tuesday and the wait honestly wasn’t that long. We ordered drinks and they have a pretty cool drink list I fell in love with my drink called the painkiller the instant I tasted it! We ordered about 6 different tacos and we weren’t incredibly impressed. Don’t get me wrong the flavors were definitely there but you can tell they were rushed in the kitchen because it showed on the plate. I ordered the oyster tacos but it looked and tasted as if they dropped the remoudale sauce on my taco. Overall I would try this place again probably on a slower night. Thumbs up to the drinks that deserves a 5!

This was our firs time coming here and we were very pleased. Pleasant atmosphere and service was quick. Nice food selection and the food was well prepared. This is definitely authentic Caribbean flavor. They use fresh ingredients and food is seasoned to perfection. I would definitely recommend this place to others if your looking something different from the norm!

I would not consider this place caribbean, maybe slightly caribbean inspired instead? We ordered the calamari for the table which was the highlight of the meal, it was very crispy without much grease. I wasn’t a fan of the sauce, too sweet. I ordered too tacos, the shrimp chili glazed one and the flank steak one. The flank steak is good, but again. not very caribbean just your average steak taco with guac. The shrimp I did not enjoy as much, way way too sweet. We went to celebrate a birthday, they were nice enough to put a candle on the bread pudding. The bread pudding tasted pretty great and was a nice serving as well. Surprisingly, it was not on the house.

Solid spot sharing the parking woes with Olive Or Twist in the same strip center. Have visited four or five times and always opt to park and enjoy it at the bar. Nice vibe, drink selection and a menu with some different items on it to choose from. My fave’s so far are the genuine Pusser’s Painkiller and the Chimichurri Steak. Great selection of tacos too and frozen Sauza Margs also on the bill of fare. More like 3.5 than 3 stars but no way to score that way here. Not quite on my 4 star list yet. I am a tough critic you see. Will return. Except for parking and long lines at times recommend.

I was really excited when I heard the Rum House was opening a Baton Rouge location. It has not disappointed. It’s a different feel for the Baton Rouge area. The drinks are always good, I go with a Painkiller or a Charger. The tiny tacos are delicious. My personal favorites are the fried oyster and the chili glazed shrimp. They might have the best queso in Baton Rouge, by the way. It’s a great place to sit and drink/eat with friends at night but also nice to grab lunch with my mom(like I did today) haha. The wait staff is always nice and attentive. The last few trips I’ve had a brunette named Morgan. Rum House, if you’re reading this, give the girl a bonus. She’s super helpful and very attentive.

Ahhhh… Taco Tuesdays!!! Came here with a few other Unilocalers, where the atmosphere was fun and festive! Even though we got a large table(we had 13 awesome people with us), it was cute loud in there. I was probably screaming/talking REALLY loud to the person 3 inches next to me. Lol The restaurant had the baseball game on, and eventually the Nigeria vs USA futbol game on. I came once with some friends, and relay enjoyed their Rum Punch. This time around, it was for Happy Hours! Tacos were $ 2 each. I forgot what was on their drink HH specials, but they had $ 2 draft beer $ 4 sangrias. So I ended up ordering 6 tacos, a side of fries($ 3.95) and a delicious glass of Sangria over the period of 2.5 hrs. Lol. Duck Duck Goose– one of my fav. I love all things Duck! The duck craklin was on spot! I didn’t get much of the sauce on this one Jerk Chicken– mango salsa was so refreshing! Lamb Vindaloo– it was topped with slices of plantain. I wish it was tossed with some kind of Caribbean spice. Chili Glazed Shrimps– for the size of the taco, the shrimps were bigger than what I was expecting. They only put 2 medium size shrimps in there. I would rather have 3 – 4 smaller fried shrimps in there. The batter was nice. Seared Scallop– my least fav bc I felt it had a lack of flavor. Scallops are harder to cook with bc it doesn’t absorb the seasoning my very well, in my opinion. But the onion marmalade made up in what the scallop lacked. Fried Oyster– yum yum yum! I’m an oyster gal, so This was no brainer! …and the fries were thin cut straw fries. Delicious! But I’m still a crinkle cut fries kind of gal! Lol

First off I only rate restaurants I think deserve a lower rating or were incredible. Walking in I thought this restaurant had a weird smell. The atmosphere was cool, modern chairs at the bar, lights and a patio. The menu listed many options. I tried the nachos substituting chicken in place of the pulled pork. The tables reminded me of a barbecue place. The tacos reminded me of torchys tacos in Texas. They are smaller sized and pricing can add up if you get three or four. My boyfriend thought his food was just okay. He told me to rate it a 3⁄5. He is biased though because he first went to the one in New Orleans. He said he got tacos there and had a rock or something that almost broke his tooth. So he steered clear of the tacos. I would give this restaurant a 3.5÷5. It wasn’t bad, but drinks are pricier than most. I’m sure their tacos are good and there’s a lot to try, but I probably won’t be back unless a lot of friends wanted to get together and go. ^ still agree went with all my coworkers for taco Tuesday which was nice. Instead of waiting with a big party you can just go get a table on the patio. Then we just ordered everything at the bar. I’m not a fan of having to pay for chips and salsa. I can understand the queso. I guess that’s just the Texas girl in me it’s basically I crime to charge for that ;). I enjoyed my tacos and think it’s a good deal to go on Tuesdays. I won’t change my rating though because the parking is awful… I was driving through sink holes in the back. They really need to pave it ASAP!

I have gone twice already and loved it each time. 1st time I went with my husband for our anniversary! I had the red curry shrimp and it was delicious! My husband has the cuban steak and though it was medium rare because that is how its recommended was fantastic. On the second trip i went for lunch for the infamous rum house salad. You can choose a half or full. I chose half for about $ 10 or so and trust you me, its plenty. My only turn off is that you have to pay extra for meat. For a salad for lunch its a bit too much but its soooooo good its worth it. It has mixed greens, fried chunks of sweet potato, red onions, cranberries and an o so sweet dressing, to top it with caribbean jerk chicken. So if you’re in the area try it. You wont be disappointed!

Big shout out to Rebecca W for recommending this place to me :) I had to pick a place for a long overdue team dinner and given the good things I had heard from Rebecca and the fact that they had huge interiors, I felt this would be a great place for one of our usual rowdy team dinners :) For 8 people at around 630 pm, seating was not a problem. Our server throughout the meal was smiling, friendly and available, so that was a big plus. We started off with some weird sounding drinks(most with lots of rum in them) which the entire table liked. I need to visit this place again when I am drinking so I can get some rum into my system lol! But I digress — we started off with some Mango avocado dip, which was spicy and sweet at the same time, but I felt the chips could use a little salt. The Ceviche tacos we ordered for the table disappeared super fast, and most people appreciate them. We also ordered some calamari which was a great hit — perfect crunch and salt from what I heard! For my dinner, I had the veggie roti — the plate is huge and I replaced my sweet potatoes side with some polenta which was delish. The corn salsa on the side was ok I felt. Most people ordered different versions of the taco trio, and I honestly saw empty plates VERY fast, so I can conclude everyone loved their tacos. We also had an order of the drum fish with skin which was a HUGE plate, but tasty. The place has a great relaxed/tropical vibe, which I loved and I think I am going to be back here very often now!
