We came, we saw, we conquered. With or without the viking hats. This was a super fun night out thanks to Dan(don’t call him Daniel) who planned out the whole event. Tullulah’s, we ate your mac and cheese, we devoured your burrata. We ate mussels(well, I didn’t eat the mussels but there was definitely mussel eating to be had), and even ate a salad just for good measure. The deserts were awesome, with the clear star of the show the bread budding and the ohmygod crème brûlée. OMG. That WAS the name of the brûlée, was it not? The service was amazing, the new friendships forged awesome, and just an all-around great evening out with great people and great food.

WHEREAREMYVIKINGSAT? The UYE @ Tullalahs, of course! We battled and pillaged that menu like NO one’s business… even if we did leave the viking hats at home. Big thanks to Dan the man for his planning and patience, he must be some sort of kin of Odin! I absolutely love the renovation to Tullalah’s and the fact that all of us hungry Unilocalers were sitting in the tiny, original section of the restaurant itself. I did note that the restaurant really focused on their expansive bar, most likely tapping into the bay shore bar scene as best they good. The bartender looked harried when approached but was polite, none the less. My tapas faves were as predicted– the Mussels, the mac and cheese and surprisingly the cod! The flavor, holy smokes and all that is good with Valhalla, I need some more of that ish. The burrata was also made of greatness but once cracked open I found it was, just a little bland. I also didn’t expect it to be fried since I’ve only had it gooey and warm — sans breadcrumbs before. As for the dessert the crème brûlée was pretty standard with the blueberry bread pudding taking the cake. Wow — I’m not even a huge fan of bread pudding but that blew every expectation I had out of the water. It was great to see everyone, new friends and old. We were an awesome crowd, I tells ya. :) Round two some time in the fall, maybe?

Tullalah’s is adorable and has an interesting and varied menu. It has something for everyone to enjoy. Tullalah’s provided me with my first tasting of octopus! I really liked it. It was charred and not chewy like I’ve been told it usually is; the chefs cooked it really well. Some of my other favorites of the night were the scallops and mac-n-cheese made with delicious gouda. Each table got a plate of the three desserts that Tullalah’s serves: blueberry bread pudding(yum), funnel cake(I could eat that stuff all day), and vanilla crème brûlée(so creamy). We ate a lot of food and it came to about $ 40 per person including tax and tip. There were sixteen Unilocalers and I think it’s safe to say that we all had a good time hanging out and trying new food. Thank you for planning this, Dan!

Thanks again Dan for planning this… Jay and I had a great time… even better somehow you got him to open up and try new things. I was so please about that. I am happy that I made it to this event. The food was amazingly good. There was a few I didn’t care so much about but there was some that I am sure I would want to come back to eat. It was nice meeting some Unilocal members and I hope to see you again on the next outing.
