Lunch was(1) too expensive at $ 18.95. Lunch specials should be in the $ 10 – 12 dollar range &(2) not one of the six different entrees was good.

I hate writing bad reviews for places that I have heard so much good about, and we plan on giving this place a second chance. We had reservations for our wedding anniversary on Feb. 13, which also happened to be «Second Saturday». They were swamped, which was surpising to me, since we had heard that a reservation was basically the only way to get in there. It was loud. We waited too long to have our drink/app order taken. We waited over an hour for a dinner to come out. We were even moved once to accommodate more patrons. The server did«buy us a drink» since we agreed to move. After a more than two hour visit we had excessive wait times, slow service, inconveniences, and mediocre food. We were told that a cook had quit two weeks prior our visit and the replacement was«still learning the menu». In my opinion, that is not a good excuse for poor service. We did get a complimentary slice of cake to take home that was delicious. We will give it the benefit of a doubt and try again when it isn’t «2nd Saturday». I will update this accordingly.

Just finished a very slow dinner at Old Cuevas Bistro on the evening of a Second Saturday Art Walk. The restaurant was busy. During our one hour and forty minute meal, the apps and salad came out in a reasonable amount of time. Then the long wait. Forty five minutes later, we got our entrée. I could see the wait staff going around and apologizing to all the other tables. So, unfortunately, the kitchen challenges have still not been addressed. Maybe they do better on week days. We had the bacon wrapped fried oysters and the spring rolls. Both were ok — good. The salads were nothing special for what could have easily been presented better than mixed greens with a plastic tub of dressing. For the dinners, we got the Shrimp French Quarter that was mediocre; Blackened Flounder that was dry and over cooked, Blackened Catfish that was good but not right out the oven hot; and Duck Quesadilla as an entrée that was good. We will have to start seeing consistent good reviews before we go back.

Went to dinner last night with two very special people. The food was delicious, but the SERVICE was beyond description. Jessica made our dinner experience so that the food could have been mediocre. She was fabulous and would recommend the restaurant just to see her. Love the Bistro, but she made it better. I give it 5 stars all day!!!

(Now take away the one star) Saturday, noon. The restaurant had only been opened barely two weeks, as the co — owner would plead an hour and twenty minutes after we arrived. First things first. As expected with the media coverage in the past week or so, standing room only, a brief wait on our table. Once seated, everyone in the place enjoying themselves, the noise level of conversation between guests and the presentation of food certainly meant the place was off and running. With the exception of an employee who’s sole purpose seemed to be to walk around nervously, avoiding eye contact and carry a water pitcher gripped in both hands, everything seemed to be clicking. Soon enough, the clicking turned into a clunker of a vehicle, wanting desperately to get out of the drive way, but either the driver or the vehicle didn’t or couldn’t, wouldn’t or perhaps was just too big of a task to get the poor clunker up and running. Ten minutes after being seated, server takes our order for 2 gumbo(a small cup, about the size of a old school coffee cup, heavy on the rice, about 7 bucks each). Beverages(2 teas) arrive, another 10 minutes later, before the gumbo, which arrived 20 minutes after we ordered. I had ordered a side salad with the gumbo. After reminding the server of the salad, beverages, gumbo were all on the table about a half hour after we ordered. Yes, the place was wall to wall .Yes, it seemed, that all were doing their darnedest to keep the car in «drive », with the exception of SWPW(Shy Water Pitcher Woman), who needs desperately to learn the meaning of «in the weeds«and help her struggling co — workers out rather than cling to that water pitcher like grim death. I was witnessing, by my own experience of 40 years in the service industry(front of house to back, mgmt. , ownership) that 2 weeks into business, either a lack of training, lack of urgency, lack of cracking the whip and communication or perhaps all of the above. Mean while, back in paradise: Refills on beverages took nothing less than pulling teeth as our server could hardly be found. We would have asked the co — owner /business partner, but she was busy taking pictures with her phone for, I suppose, a Facebook page. It certainly wasn’t for what was amounting to, behind the scenes, beyond the diner’s vision, the doomed voyage of The Titanic. About 40 minutes into our hopelessness, a couple were sat at a table next to us. Waiting they did. And more waiting. And more waiting. They began mirroring the attempts we had began long before they arrived. An hour into our blown head gasket, after several tables that arrived long after we did, we neared surrender, frustrated to hell and back, instructing Water Woman to check on our entrees(2 Ruben sandwiches). She returned, saying, «She’s putting them on the tray right now ». Wow, do I hate a liar, moreover when I’m forced to watch as my hunger is turning to aggravated loss of appetite due to employee complacency. Ten minutes later, and feeding more tables around us with the greatest of ease and blindness to our long overdue(an hour and 15 minutes after first ordering) dining dilemma, we told the server to give us a check for what we had already, that we were leaving. She disappears. 5 minutes later, with the final clock at one hour, twenty minutes, Photo op Co — Owner is carrying food to go to our table, apologizing for the car wreck and casualties, stating that«It’s only their second week in business ». Not only did we not need excuses, we were hardly in the mood to eat out of a bag with our McCuevas UnHappy Meal within. «Good luck with yours. We’ve been a here an hour and twenty minutes and they brought us our entrees in a doggy bag«I told the neighboring couple. «We’re probably right behind you ‚» they remarked in exhausted unison. Perhaps the majority of hometown locals and devoted diners who have nowhere to go and all day to get there and have all day to hold their hunger down to a state of nothing will keep this café afloat and avoiding icebergs in the future, but for those of us who have somewhere to be and are expecting a restaurant to live up to the hype without thinking«Wow, maybe we should have eaten before we got here », our first visit was our last. If you’ve got to get back to the office or want to catch that movie, I’d wait a while so as they can get those opening jitters out. It’s an hour and twenty minutes you’ll never get back. Bad, bad, dog. No doggy bag.

Old Cuevas is a new restaurant on Main Street in historic Bay St. Louis. The location is great… across the street from the water and right in the middle of the booming little downtown. They took an old warehouse type space that’s been several different things in previous years and turned it into a restaurant. It’s a great space with high ceilings and an open feel. I started the meal with a Maker’s Old Fashioned. It wasn’t perfect, but good enough. The food was good. We had a fried oyster appetizer that was prepared by wrapping the oysters in bacon, frying them up and presenting them on a skewer and atop a delicious sauce. For entre, I had the French Quarter Shrimp, which was essentially a BBQ shrimp plate. The shrimp were prepared perfectly and served in a tasso butter sauce atop fried grit cakes. Very good and full of flavor. Before the entre, I had a small Ceasar. It was tasty as well. BOTTOMLINE: Foodwise, one of the better restaurants in the downtown BSL area.

Opened this week(Dec 15th) in the Bay(111 Main street) The long wait is finally over! The new OCB in the Bay looks great. I am sure there will be a bit of a learning curve with all of the new staff and new equipment, but most of the same terrific things are on the menu and Cassandra’s in the kitchen. The new space has lots of reminders of the«Old» Cuevas Bistro, with a great looking décor, more space, larger bar and the same outstanding food. Congrats to the OCB team.

Currently closed due to a fire. 9÷28÷2014. They ARE rebuilding and will be open SOON. Great food, wonderful atmosphere and very nice staff. Our glasses never got empty and our food came out fast, hot and presented very well. This is the kind of quaint little place that you can stop in on your motorcycle for lunch or put on a suit and tie and take your wife for an anniversary dinner. The building(was) historic for the area and it’s in a very scenic area of Pass Christian. Right down the road is a historic mansion and in the other direction is a canoe rental business. It’s not far from I-10(go south on Menge Ave from exit 24)…maybe 5 – 7 miles; and only about 6 – 8 miles from Hwy 90 and the beautiful white sand beaches of the Coast.

We went out of our way to eat at this place and very pleased we did. From having the door opened for us as we arrived to the parting farewell the service was outstanding. We had the chicken and biscuit with eggs because it looked so good in the photo and it came out looking just the same and was deliciousness itself. Fresh buscuit, crispy chicken and perfectly cooked poached eggs. Yes we would definitely come again. Great coffee too

A group of six ate here last night and all six left full and satisfied. Service was great. I had the flounder with chili Thai sauce and it was fantastic. My husband had the tuna and he raved about the sashimi grade tuna that it was. Can’t wait to go back.

We came in on a Saturday night, without reservations around 7:15. They quickly created a space for us, a nice little table for 2 near the back of the dining area, which was perfect for us. We shared the Eggplant Bruschetta. It was wonderful. 4 good size slices of eggplant, breaded and lightly fried, all topped with a nice portion of bruschetta toppings and a drizzle of a balsamic reduction, over a light bed of baby spinach. I had the Famous Granny Smith Salad, which was spinach, red onion, grape tomato, apple slices and bleu cheese crumbles served with a house made maple vinaigrette. He had the soup special, Corn and Seafood Chowder– which was rich and creamy with well blended flavors. We had a wonderful meal, served in a very timely and friendly fashion despite our lack of reservations on a busy night. Very friendly and professional service. It is a clean and warm atmosphere with a lovely staff. We will be back again!

I have to admit I thought my friend was taking me to get murdered as we drove into the middle of nowhere. But then when we pulled up to that last stop sign, I saw the twinkly lights on the adorable home and sighed with relief. I’m not sure what city this is in exactly but everyone from the Gulfport horse show was there it seemed. We knew ¾ of the patrons there! It is a 20 minute drive from Gulfport but well worth it. Plus when I checked-in on Unilocal I got a free glass of house wine! Love when that happens. The fried oysters with bacon appetizer were the best thing I have ever tasted and I would eat this as a meal every day. And the garlic shrimp Alfredo… out of this world!!! Everyone in our party left very well-satisfied. This place oozes charm and I love the New Orleans style paintings on the wall. There is a beautiful porch and I wished it was warm enough to enjoy it!
