Grew up a block away from this place and loved their pizza when I was a kid. Rarely ate there and mostly ordered take out or delivery but they never disappointed! Bayonne is definitely not lacking in options for pizza but if you grew up in Bayonne, you can’t help but love this place.

I won’t lie but every time I’m in Bayonne I have to grab a small plain pie. It holds well in the fridge and I have leftovers for a few days. I grew up eating Pompei Pizza and their quality has always stayed the same. They keep it simple and family friendly!

Delicious pizza, quick service. The crust was perfect. Not overdone, not soggy.

This pizza is just crap. I went there few years ago and it was my fist and last time. The cheese pizza is tasteless. There are other spots in Bayonne that have pizza to die for. I have no idea how it stays open for 50 years. I guess is the location nothing else. Mama Rosa, Mona Lisa, pizza Napoli are just 3 of the best in town. Some places are good with cheese pizza and some are good with speciality pizza. Some are good with wings.

I was in Bayonne on business and needed to stop for a quick lunch. I went to Unilocal and saw a pizza place with a decent amount of rating stars. Meh. The pizza was dry. Not enough sauce or cheese. It was bland. The bast part of the visit was that they had red birch beer in the post mix soda dispenser. With the competition in Bayonne for pizza, I’m afraid to try the other places. If this place did well in ratings, I don’t know if I can believe the patrons of Bayonne.

This pizza reminded us of the days in NYC Years Ago Local Pizza joints — crispy crust made simple and delicious. who knew taking a quick trip to UPS store in Bayonne on our way to Ikea and Jersey Gardens Mall would lead us to this tasty pizza. Tasty enough that we ate a slice there and took a pie home. The guys there are so friendly too. Loved it. Go make a stop there if you’re within 50 miles of this place :-). Thank you!

The only people calling this pizza best in town either works there or have friends and family there. Its fine if youre passing by and just want a slice but the pizza is only average. The dining area/stock room is a total disaster, looks like someones basement, its filthy. I could name 20 pizzerias in this small town more deserving of all these rave reviews, not this one

Update – it’s been five years since I’ve wrote my original review and I thought it was time to remind everyone how kick-ass this place is. I ordered a large take-out order last time I was town a couple of weeks ago and every piece of food I ate was authentic, tasty and homemade with the intention of pleasing my taste buds. Their meatballs were some of the best I’ve ever had and that’s saying a lot. Everyone that ate with me agreed-Pompei’s is The Best! I also want to add that they were fast and 100% accurate with my order which in this day and age, is worth a kudos.

People love this place and I don’t disagree with them. The pizza has always made my stomach happy, their tossed salad is always just what I need and everyone that works there is pleasant.

I ordered delivery from here for the family the other day and I was disappointed. The guy on the phone was nice but did not enunciate his words well. When I asked for my total I thought he kept saying $ 44 instead of $ 24– which makes a big difference. They charge $ 12 for each pie, it’s a dollar more than their competitors so you would assume their quality is better right? WRONG. The pizza was not good, the crust to cheese and sauce ratio was off, the crust was too thick with hardly any cheese or sauce. Moral of the story try somewhere else. I hear its a different experience in stores, but save your money if you want delivery. Only reason I’m giving 2 stars is because delivery came very quick.

The best pizza in Bayonne if you eat in restaurant. For some reason I feel it loses the taste when you have it delivered or takeout. When judging in terms of dining in, hands down the #1 pizza slice in town.

$ 2.00 for a piece of tasteless cardboard. Only positive point was that it wasn’t greasy. The man making the pizza has been looking across the street at that empty lot for too many years, because his pizza tastes just as empty.

Horrible pizza. No taste. Other reviews must be from friends and family. San Vito and Pizza Masters are much better.

Bottomline the guys here are awesome. The owner is even more awesome. There were a couple of times I was running late from work and they saved me pizza for me and my preg wife. Very veteran/law enforcement friendly and their pizza is beyond amazing. Sucks I moved out of Bayonne but if I come through, this will be my first stop.

I am 29 years old. When I was 8 years old, I was staying at my aunt’s house when I had this pizza at the actual restaurant off of Broadway. I only had it once. I had one slice. 21 years later, I still remember how good it was. It was the best slice of pizza I’ve ever had in my life. I compare every other piece of pizza I’ve ever consumed to the single slice of pizza I had at Pompei’s that fateful day so many years ago. Plus, I live in California now and, lemme tell you, pizza in California sucks. I was at a place recently where avocado was a premium topping. Avocado? Seriously? What the hell is wrong with you people? The east coast has good pizza. The west coast has good Mexican food. God works in mysterious ways.

Pompei is my favorite pizza in Bayonne. I grew up on New York pizza and when I moved to New Jersey it failed to compare for the most part. I will say that North Bergen has a few really good spots but Pompei brought me back to my youth and never fails to satisfy! They have to be doing something right as they recently celebrated 50 years open. That is something to brag about now days. The crew behind the counter are awesome too. When you are in Bayonne you have to check them out.

Great pizza and friendly counter staff. Average prices. Good for walking in and grabbing a slice or ordering takeout. The pizza is authentic NJ(better than NY) style pizza — thin crust, perfect amount of sauce & cheese, and tossed right at the counter in front of you. Small seating area that can get crowded during peak hours, but its really not that big of a problem. I always order my heart-shaped pizza here on V Day, which they are always happy to make for me! Ive also had their wings, salads, garlic knots, ziti, & chicken parm dishes — all very good and just how it is supposed to be from the good olé Italian pizzeria. There is a reason this place has stuck around Bayonne after all these years! I’ve never been disappointed.

This is my «walking slice» stop on my way home from drunken happy hours in the city. Oh, you’re next to the light rail? Cool. I will stop here and get a walking slice on my way back to my apartment. The pizza is good for absorbing alcohol and nothing more.

Good pizza, awesome soups taste homemade!!! Friendly staff, good prices. Not to be forgotten, they have the best chili I’ve had in a very long time, just the right amount of everything so it’s spicy but not over powering and very meaty, awesome.
