I am walking home from Michaels salon right now. I walked in for a bang trim. Lilliana did it, she was wonderful. My issue today was with the sad lack of communication and customer service. When I walked in and asked for the price today, I thought the woman in front said $ 4. I could have sworn. Usually I’ll pay around $ 5 so I was pleased at this low price. When I went to pay, the owner, a man, I’m assuming his name is Michael, told me it was $ 12 and I had misheard. Usually when this type of miscommunication arises, the business owner, in an effort to maintain quality customer service, will compensate by maybe taking a few dollars off. Maybe meet in the middle. However this man was extremely rude for no reason, telling me to read his board and asking me if it said $ 4 or $ 12. He said all his time in this line of work he has never seen a trim for $ 5. He also said«maybe in Chinatown.» I am half Asian, so that is extremely offensive. I am overwhelmingly disappointed at this mans poor level of customer service and extreme rudeness, and I will never come back here again.

I haven’t gotten my hair done here but my 84 yr old mom comes regularly to get her color and cut from Sandy. Sandy only works here Fri and Sat but my mom has had no problem getting scheduled for a same day appointment. The clientele appears to be mostly middle age to seniors so I’m not sure if this salon would be a good fit for young adults. However all the stylists seem very nice, attentive and have a lot of regular clients so obviously they are good at their craft! Sandy does a great job with my mom so thumbs up from me!

I walked into Michael’s Place because it has been there forever, so I figured it may be decent. They were friendly and took me right away on a Saturday morning, even thought it was busy. I wanted ammonia-free dye, which is hard to find in Bayside. Although they don’t have ammonia-free, they have low ammonia(1%) so I gave it a try. My color and cut was done by Liliana and she is lovely. She worked at Christie’s & Co.(so she told me) for many years before working at Michael’s. She was very attentive, listened to what I wanted, made suggestions and worked with me to create a color and cut that was exactly what I wanted. Unheard of, right?! My hair looks great! Because I was there for a couple of hours, here are a few observations: This is a very popular salon for older ladies. There are two stylists who seem to work exclusively on older women and do a very nice job. So if Grandma needs a cut or set, send her on over. Walkers are a common accessory here, so Grandma will not feel out of place! Michael must be the master of scissor cuts for the male population between 30 and 45. I saw him give haircuts to 6 or 7 guys while I there. They all had different kinds of hair and different types of cuts. They have the most comfortable sinks I have ever experienced. No pain or contortions necessary to get your hair washed! The salon is really clean! The same person washes, colors, cuts and blow dries your hair(except for Michael, someone else washes your hair.) The pricing is in line with the trendier salons in the neighborhood($ 120 for my special color and cut) and this is not a trendy salon at all. But for the service and expertise, the price is worth it.

If you are going to a salon you need to let the person cutting your hair know first what you are looking for and expect. They are not mind readers. I’ve been to Michael’s and found it to be clean, people polite and the cut to be one of the best I had. I live in Westchester and I travel there whenever possible to have my hair cut.

I can’t believe the somewhat negative reviews on here. I come here all the time, always without an appointment, and they are always happy and willing to cater to me. I can’t speak for other stylists because I tend to stay faithful to the one, but I think Ebee is wonderful. She has cut, colored, and even styled my hair in an updo for my prom many moons ago. She is just so talented and a very kind person. If I ever bring in a picture of the cut I want, she delivers without flaw and makes a point of assuring that you walk out happy. I really like this place. They are extremely reasonably priced, and they do NOT strictly cater to an older clientele(ahem, reviewer below, ahem). I am in my twenties and definitely do not feel out of place here.

An good barbershop. Good customer service, and so forth, he just can’r seem to cut my hair right every time. Most people have easier hair than I do though, and he has very conveinient hours. You can even get haircut on the way home from the train.
