Stop & Shop

Took over the Waldbaum’s that used be here for many years. Pretty much the same layout and offerings. Store is generally well up-​kept and well stocked. Checkout lanes move fairly fast even when it’s busy.
Biggest complaint may be parking during peak times because it’s in a pretty large shopping center with several other stores of all kinds.
Minor annoyance having to stick a quarter in a shopping cart to «rent it» but, hey, you get your money back when you put it back where it belongs — instead of up against someone else’s car — and you will always have carts available. Come to think of it, that’s not so annoying but you may not easily figure out what needs to be done to insert the coin and free the cart from the other cart onto which it’s chained.
Biggest plus may be their sizable deli area (as compared to other nearby competitors anyway) and usually helpful and efficient staff. I don’t mind driving the extra few miles to come here instead shopping at other nearer by grocery stores so I guess that says something.

My wife and I shopped here for some healthy alternatives to taco night last week. I had to return some items due to it being expired. When I knocked on the office door, a young employee came out. David was very generous and he was able to easily help out the purchases. Great worker.

I am surprised and disappointed with this store. I could deal with the stinky smell from the seafood dept and lack of stocked items, but I am very disappointed that they do not have the SCAN IT program in this store. I inquired, and was told they are not getting it. I will continue to shop in New Hyde Park. A plus is the fantastic staff.

I am really surprised by some of the reviews for this newly opened Stop & Shop. The Waldbaum’s in Bay Terrace, I felt, was always the best one in the area and since becoming Stop & Shop it’s really upped the ant-​y. The store is clean and has a great selection of produce, meat and non perishable items. Granted the store is usually pretty busy, the staff are helpful and friendly. If you try to go at the start of the week they always have the sale items and you honestly can’t beat their prices. My spending on groceries has significantly gone down since Stop & Shop opened. Definitely the best store to go to in the Bayside-​Whitestone area!

I suppose I should be grateful that I still have a supermarket in walking distance to my home ever since Waldbaums went bankrupt. I first came into the store the day after Thanksgiving and thought the empty spaces on the shelves were due to the holiday however, I have been there several times since then and found this to be the norm instead of the exception. Is this going to be as good as it gets? If so, very disappointing.
Their selection on certain stock items isn’t great such as coffee, cookie, candy and frozen foods. Their produce is horrible and the store seems messy and unorganized and does not make for a pleasant shopping experience. I couldn’t even find a Nestles crunch bar in the entire store.
I have been to other Stop and Shop’s that are much nicer. I find myself going over to Key Food in Whitestone when I have big shopping to do. Stop and Shop get your act together or I may not even want to stop in for milk and eggs, if you even have them.

The location looks exactly the same as Waldbaums. I love the convenience of this location but it doesn’t stay open till 2 am like the previous establishment. Over all this store has everything you want when you want it. You need a quarter deposit for the shopping cart but you get it back when you return it but non the less it is annoying.

This Stop n Shop is great. Great quality and excellent prices. Plus the people who work there take great pride in making sure that the customer will have a good experience. Also the Stop n Shop brand products are better than some of the name brand ones at half the price. Those saying they miss the Waldbaums that used to be here are being nostalgic. Waldbaums decline started 5 years ago. Stop n Shop is here to stay.

This store is a disgrace!
The selection is sparse and very often shelves are bare. Four out of five times I had to go to a second supermarket. I hear similar comments from most patrons.
I hope another market opens up in the area soon.

They are doing the something that helped lead to Waldbaums demise.
When Waldbaums renovated they all of a sudden only had Boar’s head products in the deli which costs more than the store brand, which I resented them taking away my choice.
So, I had to go elsewhere very often Stop and Shop in Douglaston which has a very good product, I was happy when I heard the would come to Bay Terrace, only to find out they are doing the same thing at the Deli Counter, I cannot understand how they think this is ok to do, therefore forcing me to go elsewhere again, have spoken with the manager who says she has told upper management about it as I was not the only one complaining, but I somehow think it won’t happen as they seem to not care.
there was no reason to start off on such a bad foot!

I know many people would disagree but I preferred Waldbaums at this location. The employees weren’t always the friendliest but guess what… It’s pretty much the same employees with the same ol’ manager! I’m not saying they all stink, I’ve had plenty of good experiences there, that’s why I always came back. The store was never fully stocked and if something went on sale you bet your bottom that they probably ran out BUT guessssss what… It’s only been a week but it seems not much has changed except the selection of items has gotten smaller. Milk section for example seems like it is half of the size, has nothing left, and this is a Friday night going into Saturday which I would assume is a huge shopping day. I will review again in a few weeks, maybe they just need to get used to the new store and protocol.

I was frequent customer when this place was Waldbaums, and watched it slowly deteriorate, I think mainly because the managers were the the pits. At one visit I watched a women switching jumbo eggs to a large egg carton, I told the manager and he just shrugged his shoulders and said «What are gonna do» and walked away and never approached the lady. So when Stop and Shop opened I was elated, I came for the grand opening and lo and behold I see the same manager. It appears they are not familiar with the expression «A new broom sweeps clean, lets hope for the best.

Friday was the Grand Opening of Stop & Shop in Bay Terrace and luckily every household got these weekly promotional coupons till the end of November. Woah the parking lot looks really packed in front of the supermarket than usual on a weekend. This is a great change to the neighborhood. As I walked into Stop & Shop, on my left was a guy making balloon animals for the kids, tables of free tasting of Glazed Donuts, Salami, Apples, and etc. Yes I tried the ones that are safe for me to eat because of my food allergies. The staff in the yellow shirts were restocking produce and etc and the staff in the blue shirts are behind the registers ringing up your purchase.
