Can I give this a negative? Worst service ever. Waitress made a mistake on my order. My friend was just about finished with her dinner so I asked to cancel. She came out with mine just moments later & I said no thank you. She barely looked at me & walked off. Next thing I know, another employee came out to the dining area with what was to be my dinner & sat down and ate it. No water refills or visit to the table to see if we were okay. No visit from a mgr & barely an apology for the mistake she made in entering my order.

If you are in Beacon SKIP this place. I stopped there last Thursday with some big clients to top off an already amazing day. Thank god the deal was done! First off it wasn’t that busy but you couldn’t tell from the guy behind the bar. Couldn’t be less interested in taking out order. Was more interested in the girl at the bar. When we finally got our drinks I noticed a man asking a guy to change his shirt since he didn’t like the way it looked or something. Someone should have said that about the goofy hat he was wearing. The topper was the unexpected«8– legged guest«that run under our table. My clients didn’t see it but more than enough to move on. It should be called«Max’s under par!!» Change the attitude and clean up the joint. Dean from Albany.

Liked the food & people watching. They didn’t have any music in the bar though which may have helped the experience & inspired us stay longer depending on the type.

Most definitely one of the worst bar establishments in Beacon. My wife and I have lived here for a year now and we would consistently frequent Max’s. Recently we decided to take a break from drinking. After our two month hiatus we decided to go back to our familiar and friendly bar when the owner’s son made a snide remark about how we haven’t been in. When we told him we had taken a break he looked at us as if we wronged the bar or something. I’m sorry, but any place that treats its patrons like shit if they don’t come in and drink every single night is not somewhere I want to waste my time. After that incident, my wife and I will never go back to Max’s. Overall, they have pretty good steak salads. The bartenders usually suck and look like bad strippers(including the owner’s son). It’s always crowded and smelling like sweaty ball sacks. Yay Beacon!

Came here after a long day of hiking Pros: — We walked in through the bar area to find a dining area on the other side — waited about 5 min for a table of 6 — The Max’s Burger was delicious and huge! — Loved the atmosphere — good chatter all around — The ladies restroom was large and clean! There was a small table for you to place your belongings which was nice — While waiting for your food you can draw on the tables! They provide you with a small tray of crayons :) Cons: — Service was subpar — waitress was great at first but then she got overwhelmed when more table were seated — took a long time to get go the check — Street parking

Food is surprisingly good for a casual Main Street bar. Place has a great vibe. Stop in for a beer and a quesadilla. It’s solid.

Great casual place for a very good lunch meal. The restaurant is a classic kind-of-family business which runs a bar on the other side of the building. The food is superb. Very healthy portions to share. The plates are big and the entrees come with two side dishes like fries, sweet potato, coleslaw, rice, many options. We had an appetizer and an entrée because we weren’t that hungry but it was plenty of food for two. We were very satisfied. We order the firecracking shrimps which are delicious! The teriyaki and sesame sauce that comes with them it’s killer! Then the pan seared tuna for the entrée that was the star of the meal. Rare on the inside and with a lot of flavor on the outside because of the homemade teriyaki sauce. We order the dirty rice, Louisiana style, and a coleslaw which was OK, kind of small sized. The place is not expensive since most of the dishes are for sharing. Will definitely come back of I ever return to Beacon!

Had the best experience here! Spent my 21st birthday here and the bartender was so patient with me and creative on what drinks to give me. The people who work here are beyond amazing, especially Maggie! She’s so funny and she made me feel so much better about pacing myself. I didn’t get to try the food here, but that gives me a reason to come back!

Max’s is a bar in Beacon, NY where one can enjoy an excellent meal along with their drinks. The staff are always very friendly and quick with their service, even on busy nights. Like to sing? Don’t be scared of the mic on Thursday night karaōke. Get up there and belt it out like you’re driving around in your car with the windows rolled down — at least until you roll up to a red light next to someone.

When we go to Beacon or are passing through we make it a point to stop at Max’s. You get a dependable meal in a fun and funky environment and then there is always Max! For me it is always a trip down memory lane with Filmore East and Woodstock Memorabilia. There are numerous pics of the musicians of that era with special note of Richie Havens. Try the black bean soup it is different and flavorful. If you are visiting Dia this is a great place to have a meal.

Never ate a bad meal here. Appetizers are massive and fantastic, so sharing is recommended. Drinks are perfectly poured. Music is awesome. Nostalgic. Fun. Cozy. Gets crowded at times because it’s poppin!

This place is terrible. I was here with my friend and we were dancing in a little corner by our table when one of the owners came up to us and yelled at us for dancing and«feeling» each other too much!!! What?!! When I responded«I don’t see that posted any where as a rule» he responded«well I’m saying it!» We were not kissing, we were not exposed… just dancing. And this old man in a beanie had some personal vendetta against us for some reason. I am so disgusted that I will never go back. He was so rude and disrespectful. How can you treat your money spending patrons like that?! Get a life you old angry man.

This place was so aggressively bad. I’m truly shocked that this place has this many good reviews, particularly ones complimenting their food. First when we arrived, it took a little while to get served, which wasn’t too bad because it was packed to the gills. I ordered a cocktail, chicken soup, and steak fries, and none of it was good enough to finish. The cocktail was incredibly weak for the price, and it basically tasted like plain Coke even though it was supposed to be ginger beer, vodka and lime. I ordered an additional shot to make it stronger, but even that didn’t save it. The fries weren’t great but they weren’t the worst; they tasted like oven-baked fries I could have made at home. The soup was particularly bad. No salt at all, no seasoning aside from some sad pieces of dill, probably half a small chicken breast’s worth of chicken. The«broth» was definitely plain water, but the soup wasn’t cooked long enough to impart actual flavor to it. I only ate it because it was cold inside and it warmed me up. Also, I didn’t come to this place for the live music, but it was also subpar. They played one(okay-ish) song, then stopped for like twenty minutes. When I went back to the restroom, the band wasn’t there. What? Why? Only upside: once we got a waiter’s attention, the service was prompt and good.

After we came in, we waited for about 15−20min for anyone to notice us. After they did, the service was good. That’s about it for the positives. My potato skins were not salted at all. The pulle’d pork sandwich was so sweet I couldn’t take more than two bites. The food in general looked very«microwaved» instead of «homemade» and every bite proved it. Their draft beers consisted of 5 choices, and the two IPAs were subpar. Atmosphere was kind of loud and crowded but not in a good way. I was looking forward to the music, but after setting up for 30 min the band played one song and it stopped. So much for that! We left shortly after because we were furious about just how bad our food and drinks were. Stay away, there are many better places on Main st.

Good food. 1) I got the pulled pork sandwich. 2) Came here after climbing Breakneck Ridge. 3) Service was good.

Confused as to why this place has such high ratings. Maybe their employee write those posts? I went here with four start expectations as previous commentators have written and left disappointed. As other lower ratings have stated this is just glorified bar food. The pulled pork was full of chunks(not really pulled) and just smothered in BBQ sauce that dripped out to form a pile of sauce on my plate as I picked up the sandwich. They do have a nice staff and management knows how to treat customers correctly by reserving tables and helping out each other. This is a good place to stop by and have a drink and an appetizer. not a full course meal unless you like eating leftovers smothered in sauce. I’ll choose somewhere else next time. PS: If you’re going to charge me for sweet potato fries, giving me more than four fry’s would have been nice.

This place was a lifesaver when we rolled into Beacon hungry at 11pm. Casual and fun(crayons and paper tablecloths) with live music and packed with locals. The menu is meat-heavy but there are a few veg options. My cocktail was sub-par(weak and too sweet) but I enjoyed my enormous portobello burger and sweet potato fries(awesome dipping sauce). My one real complaint is that my fun evening was sullied by the misogynist men’s room décor. Grow up, guys.

This place will never see my money again. It won’t affect the business though, because everyone spreads their cheeks for Max’s. It’s just glorified bar food, I don’t get it. Truth be told, I’d rather it remain a true dive bar than try to cater to the yuppie crowd and have some fancy décor and dress codes. The food is OK, but it’s all in your head if you think fried barrel food and plates of hamburger helper are the world’s best, I love Max’s! I was scolded, and given a purple t shirt because I had on a tank top. Not a «wife beater»(those misogynist jokes are in his bathroom) but a fashionable summer tank top. He was dead serious, and brought me a t shirt to «cover up». Meanwhile, a young lady at my table had a tank top, exposing her shoulders and cleavage, and 3 other ladies in the place did, also! I even brought that to the attention of the employees, as to how ridiculous his request was. He asked me if I could read, the sign was on the front door… So when we left, we searched for it. Like a where’s Waldo of informative post it notes. There it is! In the bottom corner of the window, hip height, about the size of a fortune cookie fortune. You’re a f@#*ing bar, not a place I should be worrying about my dress code. See ya round Max. Pinkies up!

I’m not sure but I think this may be my first ever Unilocal review and I’m only leaving it because this place is that good. Ended up here by chance when passing through town and immediately felt like I was a regular. Jesse behind the bar and Rich running the floor made us feel right at home. I haven’t even gotten to the food yet. Let’s just say everything is generous portions and worth making a stop out of your way for. Also, do yourself a favor and get the ribs, perfection.
