J&S saved my ass from getting overcharged at another local garage.
Despite being booked, they got me in & replaced my alternator in the same day. They did not add any costs to what they originally estimated and the cost of the part matched what the parts store was quoting, no mark up. Cost of labor was about right with other averages, totally honest & straightforward with their bill.
Thanks so much, guys — you’ve earned my loyalty.

So today I set up a appointment to meet a guy on CL so I could have a prepurchase exam done at a automotive shop. I live in Milwaukie and so I checked Unilocal to find the mechanic. Seeing J&S Automotive had 5 stars I called and even though they were closing early (New Years eve) they told me they could handle it if we got their soon.
After dashing out to Beaverton I was left waiting for the CL flake to show up, which he NEVER did. Lucky me as it turns out because I met the my professional, nice human beings working at this automotive shop. They even gave me time that if this guy showed up they would stay late… who does that any time of the year?
This company is worth the time & drive, I truly appreciate their time today and an added note: They have a wonderful dog named Maggie. Happy 2016.

This place rocks! My car overheated while driving back home from SE Portland, the temp gauge was above the H and smoke coming from engine, I made it home safely, it just happened to be Thanksgiving night and I thought for sure I wouldn’t be able to find a mechanic who could take a look at my car the next morning. I chose to call J&S based on other reviews here and the fact they are just over a mile from home, after calling first thing in the morning I was shocked they were able to get me in right away, my 99 Honda Civic ended up needing a new radiator and a tail light replaced which they did that morning all within a couple hours! Everyone was very friendly and even explained in detail and showed me what was going on with the radiator, I was very impressed with their prompt, professional service. I highly recommend them and I’ll be going back for routine oil changes, etc.

These guys are Awesome!!! My trucks alternator went out on my way to work at a Hillsboro school. They quoted $ 300 less than the Ford dealership and referred me to an awesome tow company that took my State Farm roadside assistance. Phil was very helpful and addressed me like a person, not a dumb blonde female! I highly recommend J&S Automotive. I know I’ll go back there for my future needs even though I live an hour away!

My sincerest apologies go to everybody at J&S, since I swore I had reviewed this place years ago, and I hadn’t! I ran across J&S somewhat by accident — had a car break down right in front of their shop (it was fate!). First things that came to my mind… Would they take good care of my BMW? Would they be as fair as the other mechanics? Well, my car was pretty much stuck there and I didn’t have much choice so I decided just to bite the bullet.
The guys at J&S have impressed me every single time I’ve taken my vehicles in for whatever they needed, which has been probably 3 – 5 times now. From oil changes to full-​on engine repair, I’ve always felt COMPLETELY at ease in my dealings with them. Always fair, always professional, always patient enough to answer my questions and work with me. I personally dealt with John, and in my experience so far he has never recommended unnecessary service, and the prices have always been fair.
My only complaint is that they’re so good that they’re super in demand!!! But this isn’t always the case, and I don’t mind if they aren’t able to look at my car the day I drop it off because I would rather wait on exceptional service and prices I can trust than risk taking it somewhere else.

I’ve now taken two of my family cars in, a Mazda compact SUV, and our big old Dodge Ram truck. Both times I’ve been exceptionally happy with the quality of the work, the speed of the repairs, the price, and the customer service. I’ve recommended them several times to my friends and customers.

My feedback after timing belt service, all fluids and driver door lock fix (2000 LS400) — this place is awesome and fair price. Jon explained all service items to me and Kevin (front desk) kept me up-​to-​date on all details. Jon is a 15+ year Lexus technician and they service all types of cars.

After reading all the positive Unilocal reviews I decided to give this place a shot yesterday. They do quality work at this establishment it’s only that it cost an arm and a leg to get that quality work done. I think $ 93 an hour for labor is a bit excessive. They also had a severe Mark up in price on parts. they wanted to charge me almost $ 800 to fix a mass airflow sensor in the turn signal. I went and bought the mass airflow sensor myself for $ 80 that they wanted to charge me 204 and replaced it. I didn’t find found the wiper harnessed for $ 100 not $ 200 and spent 15 minutes replacing it is well when they wanted to charge me an hour and a half for labor. I ended up having them replace five lightbulbs in my dashboard and just the labor for that and the two diagnosis came out to be $ 333.if you’ve got a lot of money in your pocket to burn and want your car fixed right then this is the place to go but hopefully they’ll do something about their prices if they want to get me or my friends repeat customers.

Excellent service and most importantly they are trustworthy, as always. I took my car in with my laundry list of what my dealership said was needed, it came to over $ 4000. As expected, most of the work was not required and J&S saved me over $ 2500. We will never take our cars anywhere else.

After searching for an honest mechanic for several years, I was referred to J&S and Thank God.
Truth as it is, unfortunately, it seems that anyone needing auto service/​repair is easy prey for a number of mechanics, however I definitely found J&S to be not only honest, but also willing to take the time to explain everything to me. I am so grateful and needless to say, he is now my only mechanic. I have referred several people to him and they are all pleased.

Edit #2: Despite my warranty having expired a few weeks ago, they still did their best to negotiate with their seller and was able to replace mine free of charge. They have their customer’s best interest in mind and I would highly recommend their service. As you can tell, customer service has to be good to have someone change a 1-​star review to a 4-​star and eventually a 5-​star review in the end. If you need vehicle repairs, go to J&S. The two that helped me specifically was Jon and Phil.
Edited: I talked to two of the individuals at J&S and there seems to be a miscommunication between the two of us. Toyota took a look at my vehicle and over-​exaggerated the issues with my vehicle.
I appreciate the rating scale that they use to address an issue (1 being not important, 10 being a huge concern) which would help consumers make informed decisions whether or not they need to have it fixed (since we may not be able to afford to fix everything).
J&S is currently looking over some of the old issues + current issues that arose and I may change this to 5 stars depending on how that turns out.

I was introduced to the shop by my friend who had visited the shop 3 times before with great results. As my friend and I talked to Steve, we became very frustrated as it was easy to see that it was all about money to them. Other shops have allowed us to use the scanner ourselves, however, Steve laughed and said that we wouldn’t know what we were doing and we can just go purchase one on our own for $ 1000. After the work was done, we went up to Steve and asked if he came across anything else during the diagnostic test. He laughed and made a «show-​me-​the-​money» sign with his fingers and said that we would have to pay him more.
If I already paid $ 93 for them to just look at the car and politely asked them if they encountered anything else of interest that I may need to know, I don’t want to be talked down to and asked to be pay more money for me to know this knowledge.
After a few days later, I discussed with a friend (who was a mechanic) to look at my vehicle and see whether or not the price was reasonable. He told me that I was scammed and that I should have brought it to someone else instead.

Long overdue review. Wonderful company that doesn’t screw you over. Took a lot of time in diagnosing problem with boyfriend’s truck and gave us a great deal. Honest and helpful people. All my problems will be taken here in the future… and hopefully all the people I have told about this place too.

found these guys one day by accident. Best accident I’ve ever had. Several vehicles later, ranging from import to domestic cars and trucks, they are the only guys I will take my vehicles to. They have always been more than fair and in several cases just walked me through how to fix the problems myself for free. They are honest, up front and don’t try to exploit repairs for profit. They are knowledgeable and pretty darn good at what they do. Friendly as well. I’ll only take my cars to John and his team. I’ve also referred family and friends to them and they are all quite impressed and have thanked me for the tip.

Jon is the best!!! He is very good and know his work. He is straight forward with you! Took my car in for a steering issue and he new what the problem was dead on. I would recommend him to all my friends and family! He is now my mechanic!

In all the years, and all the cars, and mechanics that I have seen, Jon is absolutely the best of the best. I couldn’t ask for a more honest, fair, and just plain nice guy with whom to trust with my car. I honestly cannot say enough here to express how excellent Jon and J & S Automotive are. I couldn’t recommend them any more highly, and it’s not only worth every penny, their service is priceless!

I first tried J & S about a year ago when Du Frense’s Automotive wanted to charge me more than the Dodge dealer to change my spark plugs. I decided to shop around and Jon’s bid was pretty good. Not only was he better on price, but he was honest about how he got to his price. I also was able to make specific requests about the 70k tune up that the other shops refused, like specifying the brand of plug he was using, and asking him to look at what might be the vibration in my steering wheel.

Jon fixed the broken lights in my car-​easily and without a fuss, and without a wait! Other places wanted to charge me lots of $ without knowing what to do and Jon immediately knew what was the problem. Before I knew it, I was back out driving with a complete set of front lights. Thank you.
