I took a purse and 2 pairs of heels in for repair last week. I had been saving them in the closet for at least 2 years because I wasn’t sure where to take them. All three items were finished in less than a day and they looked great! The bill to fix all three was about 28 dollars and I have my favorite pair of black mary jane pumps back! Service was friendly, quick and I loved how close it was to my house. I will be back!

There are two elements to Eckstein(1) the shoe store and(2) the shoe repair workshop. I don’t really have anything to say about the shoe store. All I know is that these are shoes that I would not buy, and the only people that I ever see looking at them are adorable old ladies. The shoe repair workshop, however, is the best that I have ever seen. This man is a magician, and if you have a pair of shoes that need stitched up or resoled this is the place to go. I have a pair of Frye harness boots that I basically wear all the time. It took me three years, but I finally wore the soles of my favorite pair of shoes through. I took them to Eckstein, I was given and estimate of about forty dollars, and a claim ticket. «Sorry, they won’t be ready for about two days,» I’m told. «We are extremely busy right now.» Two days? This guy is apologizing for two days? What is the normal turnaround time– an hour? I expected to be without my boots for at least a week, and this artist will have them ready in two days. In addition to my shoe repair, I asked him about a satchel that I have had for about 10 years. The zipper was broken, and I couldn’t find an alteration shop that would fix it. They said that the fabric was too thick. This man looked at it, told me up front that it would be quite expensive given that zippers are difficult to replace. I asked for an estimate. «Oh, about fifty.” — Are you kidding me?! That’s it? Fifty big ones? For real? Both of these items, for which I posses an irrational attachment, were repaired in two days. The bag looked patchy(which I expected) but very strong. The shoes looked brand new. He sewed news soles and heels onto the boots– both non-slip and oil resistant. My boots are better now than they were when I bought them. The original soles weren’t non-slip. It all looks so perfect and seamless, and the service was the friendliest I have ever experienced. This man is the master of a dying art. He is good. He can fix your boots, your shoes, your purse… If it can be repaired he can do it. I won’t go anywhere else in town to get my shoes repaired.

Eckstein’s is a small shoe store. The styles of shoes they carry aren’t really my thing… but my grandma loves them! Designs aside, the prices here seem a little steep too… some pairs were pushing $ 100 and didn’t seem like they had any special orthopedic benefits or anything fancy. Regardless, I do like this store because they offer shoe repair. I’ve had several pairs of heels and boots lose the little tip on the sole of the heel. Had I not found Eckstein’s, I would have had to discard some of my favorite pairs! Luckily, they can repair them pretty quickly and at an affordable price too. I recommend Eckstein’s if you have a few pairs that need some TLC… or if you are into the same styles of shoes as my granny.
