Love this shop. Super friendly owners. Great book signings. I loved this shop in Searsport and like the larger space in Belfast. Fantastic selection of books. Support the locally owned store!

Very nice people. I called in for a book, but they didn’t have it. They were awesome about it though. They decided to order it and they got my name and number to call me back about it. Very happy.

This is a terrific little bookstore just off of the center of downtown Belfast. The selection of books is thoughtfully curated and focuses on Maine and themes related to Maine(nautical books, for example). I especially enjoyed browsing the awesome cooking section(again, several Maine-themed options), though the local history, travel, and intelligent reader’s fiction selections weren’t half bad, either. The shop is clean, bright, and well laid-out. The proprietress was especially friendly. In our era of dwindling local bookshops, Left Bank is a treasure. *There’s a bathroom in the back, around from the children’s section.

This is a wonderful bookstore! I love the feel of it… it’s quite small and has a comfy-old-library feel that is missing in most bookstores. There are books to meet just about every taste you might have and if your book isn’t there, they will order it for you and you will have any book you want in just a couple of days(they will even find and order used or out of print books). The reason that this beautiful and comfortable shop only gets 3 stars from me is that the service is hit-or-miss. The shop is collectively owned by 3 women. Two of the women give fabulous service and make you want to come back soon(they openly request that you do so). The other woman makes me feel like I’m a bother and that she would rather be working on a chain gang than serving customers. I always leave the store wondering if she treats everyone like that or if she just does not like me. A customer should never feel like a bother or wonder if you like her or not… even if you can’t stand to see her, it is in the shop’s best interest to make her feel wanted. Last time I was in there, her attitude cost her a $ 100 dollar order. I ended up just going online where I got the same books for 30% less without feeling like a pain in her behind. I oftentimes pay more than I have to for a product if I get wonderful service and a comfortable place to browse and shop but I will probably not go into the store anymore because this is the 3rd time I have had unsatisfactory dealings with this one woman. If you love beautiful bookstores and want to take your chances that she won’t be the one waiting on you(I noticed that she usually works Saturdays), definitely give this shop a visit.

Love, love love this bookstore! It’s in the old bank building right off the main road through the town, just a short block down from the Penobscot Marine Museum. Owner recommendations on the front table are worth their weight in gold. I picked up «We Took to the Woods» — a 1940’s Maine classic I would never have heard of otherwise. Great collection of classics, latest and greatest, novelties, stationary, cards, overstuffed chair in the corner, etc. If you’re a believer in independent bookstores — be sure to check out the bathroom walls, collaged with cartoons, thoughts, and even bags/cards from other bookstores with the same name around the world. This is a small and local place that made me feel connected to the larger world in a delightful way. I will make a point to stop by every time I’m in the area.

Wonderful little independent bookstore in downtown Searsport on the Maine coast! The store is located in one of the oldest buildings in town– the building used to be a bank, and you can still see the old vault door in the store. Inside the store decorated really nicely and, of course, teeming with books! They also have a nice selection of cards and cool wrapping paper. Left Banks books is a really great feature in this small town. I visit Searsport often, and every time I do I always stop into this store to check out the new displays and buy some books!
