Destination Maternity

Had a great experience here last week. Not everything in the store is crazy-​expensive, just the Pea in the Pod section. I found several pairs of summer-​weight pants and a few tops at prices comparable to Target. The saleswoman was very friendly and helpful, she even brought me a cool glass of water while I was in the dressing room. I would definitely go back.

My sister-​in-​law insisted I try hot yoga with her and she was so excited I had to say yes. All my pre-​pregnancy yoga clothes were much too small. My breasts gained six inches and two cup sizes and did not go back because I’n nursing.
My experience here was outstanding. I didn’t’ want to drive all the way there if I would not find what I wanted. I looked at the Destination Maternity web page to see what they had for yoga tops size XL. Kiarra answered the phone and was very helpful. She looked up the item number, let me know that particular item was not in stock, and assured me that if we drove in something would be there. I asked what type of yoga tops she had in XL, she walked to the racks and told me.
Kiarra also offered to start me a fitting room with a few items, and she did that! When we got there I found five items. I tried two on. My sister-​in-​law gave me great feedback on what looked nice. This was the least painful experience I have had post-​delivery.
To the lady who gave two stars and said «Get real ladies and buy second hand or target «I say, go to Target and Goodwill to buy things and don’t give a bad review because you think buying expensive stuff for pregnancy is just stupid. I went to Goodwill lots of times and stocked up on lots of things. I went to this store to buy stretchy stuff that Goodwill does not have.

Unfortunately this is the only maternity shop in Bellevue, otherwise we probably would have left without buying anything. I was there to shop with my sister who is pregnant, the woman who greeted us was friendly and helpful, but it ended there. The friendly salesperson was then occupied with another customer at the cash register and as we proceeded to pile clothes in our arms we were never asked if we wanted a room/​needed help, I ended up starting a room for us. Throughout our time at the store, the two other salespeople barely looked at us. One was folding jeans and watching the TV that was blasting some obnoxious game show and the other was unpacking boxes, both could have easily asked us if we needed anything.

Unfriendly and unhelpful sales people. Return policy and bump bucks are not at all customer friendly. Most materials feel cheap even though the prices are high and most everything is made in China.

I guess my experience here was quite different from other people’s. I went not expecting to find pants in an affordable price range, but came away with three pants, the most expensive was $ 30. Now, these were on sale, and I probably wouldn’t buy them full price, but I was really happy with what I got. I almost got jeans, but they were a bit pricey and the fit wasn’t quite right on the sales racks: the one size was too loose but the right length, and the other was the right size but didn’t come in a shorter length. So, I will have to keep looking for those.
The salesperson helping me was super nice and helpful. It was my first time shopping for these clothes and she showed me how to roll the pants in the meantime, and helped me get the correct fit. She was patient and even joined in on the laughing when my husband made me try on the 7 month belly thing just for kicks (very weird to try on when you are still a few months off!).
I tried going to a few random stores like Target/​etc. but most had a really limited (if any) maternity section, and the clothes were about the same cost as here, but also not as well made. The belly bands on these pants were awesome! You can wear them while you’re still small, and I can definitely see how they will work when bigger (trying on the belly showed that, too).
To me, this was the perfect first place to go. Try on clothes in a nice place, there is a decent selection, the people were friendly, and I felt like I could take my time. She even turned me away from buying one of the gimmicky items (I had heard it could be good, but she said it wasn’t worth it). If you are a bit nervous about the pregnancy stuff, and still getting through the first steps, this is a safe place to go

2 years ago I thought this store was great. They must have changed owners or managers. Recent trips I’ve seen odd behavior from the salespeople: speaking amongst themselves across the store not in English, mistakes at the cash register, pushy sales tactics, and the store manager was taking a personal call the entire time I was in the dressing room.
The merchandise is still pretty good. I think it’s best to go in, keep your head down and steer clear of the sales folks. Better yet, take an experienced friend to help you find what you’re looking for!

Trying to find a spot in Bellevue that had a decent selection of maternity clothing was more of a challenge than I thought it would be. Luckily, I remembered seeing this spot driving by previously because even across the street in Bellevue Square there really weren’t many options (the maternity stores didn’t even seem to have maternity clothing for some reason).
I wanted to be able to try clothes on as I was in the market for something to wear to a wedding. The salespeople here were friendly and helpful even offering suggestions for dresses I hadn’t considered… and some of their help was even after the store had officially closed (I felt bad, but they didn’t rush me at all).
There seem to be quite a few sale sections in the store, and some nicer seeming regular prices options, and by regular I mean somewhat pricey. But, for a special event, it’s still worth it imo.
The little seven month bumps in the dressing rooms are cute and fun to try on with the clothes, too. There are a few extras at the counter as well to help mostly with early pregnancy symptoms.
Overall, if you need something more immediately than online shopping allows and/​or you’re nit sure about pregnancy sizing, this is a nice place to shop. It’s even more fun if you don’t need to worry about a budget!

I came here to buy some maternity support for work and was baffled as to why any woman would pay so much for clothing you only wear for a short period of time. Hormones? Vulnerability during such a special time? Who knows. Regardless, I paid $ 28 for a loop of spandex I never used and was too lazy and pregnant to take back. Staff was helpful but I got the aggressive sales person vibe, constantly talking to me and following me around the store. Don’t tread on me and my emotions while k/​u. Get real ladies and buy second hand or target for maternity clothes.

When I finally needed to buy maternity clothes RIGHT.NOW., I headed to Destination Maternity at the recommendation of my coworkers. I had exhausted Old Navy & Target’s small supplies of maternity clothes and needed more of a variety of clothing that fit me. I appreciated the calm atmosphere, dressing rooms with the little faux bellies the see how clothes would fit later on in pregnancy, and the friendly but not-​too-​pushy salespeople. I was there for over two hours trying on a variety of things. Most of what I liked was (of course) the overpriced Pea in a Pod stuff. But, I found several sales and am fairly happy with most of the clothing I purchased. Overall, I got some basic clothing pieces for prices I could live with… but there were nicer things I could not afford and would have liked to diversify my wardrobe more.

I have mixed experience as far as customer service here goes. The first time the sales staff were all amazing. I was greeted, they showed me the layout of the store (Note to the cheap like myself: stay on the right side with the Motherhood line; stay away from the Pea line on the left). They were great at helping me find a few good pairs of pants for my impending size change. Overall I found the items to be pretty reasonable and they have a bigger selection than Target which is nice too (I’m talking about the Motherhood section of the store, not Pea in the Pod.). The other few times I’ve been here, the staff have also been friendly… Until the other night. We stopped here after work so I could pick out something nice for my baby shower. It seemed like only one salesperson was working. She wasn’t very helpful or nice, she never checked on me in the fitting room, and she didn’t offer to help me find any other sizes or alternatives. Basically, I was on my own. The fitting rooms were mostly piled high with clothes. The «super busy» salesperson spent 10 minutes talking to some couple at one point instead of helping anyone else in the store or cleaning fitting rooms. It was chaos. I left empty handed with some serious disappointment.
I may come back again when we have another baby and I need more clothes, but otherwise, I’m going to go dress hunting somewhere else.
Parking here is interesting. There are clearly marked «Destination Maternity» stalls. Do not attempt to park outside of the HSBC next door on the weekends even though the spaces are empty and the bank is closed. The company that runs that parking lot will not hesitate to give you a ticket (Yes, someone actually does monitor that lot!).

If you’re interested in spending $ 40−70/top and $ 60−200/bottom on clothing that you can wear for less than 5 months (depending on how fast your bump grows), this might be the place for you. I suggest Destination Maternity for a few expensive staples (like maternity jeans) and Target, consignment shops or even thrift stores for the rest.
This store is a bit daunting at first– when you walk in, the left hand side is all «Pea in a Pod», the right hand side is «Destination Maternity». The sale racks are at the back. Send your man and/​or kids to the waiting area behind the cash register, which looks tempting for every tired pregnant lady.
As other reviewers have said, they will try to up-​sale you on items. They always slip at least a couple expensive tops in my dressing room, as if I won’t notice and might buy them (and maybe some people do?). They’ll ask for your contact info at checkout, and may even be rude if you don’t oblige (I didn’t). Just stay strong– this place isn’t about costumer service, it’s about finding something that will fit & look nice. Which I’ve found to be a daunting task, with my new body.
In all, I would return but not often. Maybe 1 – 2 times/​pregnancy, to be honest.

It’s kinda nice to have the Pea in the Pod and the Motherhood maternity line all in one place. They always have a big sale section and the staff has always been friendly and helpful. There is also a restroom, television with leather chairs and small play area for children all inside the store. It’s not super organized or displayed nicely, but the prices are very reasonable and you can get a lot of basic items for your maternity wardrobe. There is a Cost Plus World Market next door and the Bellevue Mall is right across the street if you need to do more shopping or find a place to eat.

For the guys, this place has two leather chairs and two 32 inch LCD on ESPN while you wait for your lady to shop. Only if they have a wine bar and I could be set for a long time.
Also, free parking and a large play area for the kids.
Great customer service taking care of my wife and offering water to us. Large selection of brands like Pea in the Pod.

I have never written a review before, but just wanted to warn women about giving their information to this store. I bought a dress at this store when I was in an «in-​between» stage. I couldn’t quite fit into my regular clothes, but wasn’t quite ready for a full maternity wardrobe. Sadly, I lost my baby two months after I bought the dress. It is now 3 months past my due date, and I am STILL getting mailings from baby-​related retailers. I am certain that Destination Maternity sold my information, as the only other way these retailers would have gotten it is through my Dr., and I know he didn’t do it. I am so angry right now, and never want this to happen to another woman. It’s a nightmare to try and get the mailings to stop, and so hurtful when each one appears in the mailbox.

Same thing happened to me with the parking ticket. Except I was in a spot that said «Destination Maternity Only.» Apparently they SAW ME «walk off the lot.» Where exactly would I go? When you’re 8 months pregnant… and the only place to really walk to is the mall (which has its own free parking), I don’t know where they thought I went (??)
My husband called and we had to show a time stamped receipt for about 10 minutes after they «saw me walk away» to get out of the ticket. What if I had just been browsing and didn’t buy anything? I would have been stuck paying the stupid ticket when I was indeed inside their store?
ALSO, Destination Maternity signed me up for some Parenting magazine, after I specifically said NO when they asked me if I wanted it. They say it’s free, but I know they’d end up charging me for the subscription– I fell for that when I was 16 at Best Buy. So, I said, «NO I do NOT want the magazine.» So after they charged my debit card for the subscription, I had to call the company and waste more time getting that charge taken off of my credit card.
THEN!!! When I was trying to try on clothing, the employee working at that time kept calling my name and trying to give me information about their U Promise program. I kept saying «No thank you» but she didn’t stop. She annoyed me while I was in the tight fitting room and started giving me paperwork about it while I was in my underwear.
To make matters worse, when I finally got her to stop with the U Promise program, she kept bringing item after item and handing me clothing through the curtain. I was SO mad and annoyed. I brought in the stuff that I wanted. I did not need, want or appreciate her «help.»
I had a VERY annoying experience and it was a lot of work to get out of the $ 30 parking ticket and the $ 20 magazine subscription. The only thing Destination Maternity has going for them is that there are really no other maternity stores in the area, so I am forced to continue shopping there. I just make sure to pay with cash so they don’t have my credit card info., and I left a note on my car saying I was in the store and they could come in and find me if they wanted to (to avoid another ticket). haha.
