If you have curly hair — go see Kimberly! I’ve always battled my hair, curly hair can be a beast. I’ve even travelled to a Deva trained stylist, and never loved my hair like I do now after having Kimberly cut it twice. She spent time messing around with my hair and working through its unique tendencies before pulling out the scissors — which I loved!
I don’t think I’ve ever been to the same stylist twice, nobody ever knew what to do with my hair! I’m so happy to have found someone who gets it.

I’ve lived several places in the US and have been to both high end and low end salons. The thing that impresses me so much about this place is that the expertise and quality hair cut and color are similar if not above some of the more «refined» salons I’ve been too. Shae is a very compassionate, hair-​cutting professional if not genius. She really listens. No, I mean *listens* to ensure you get exactly what you want, double-​cking to hear if you’re in agreement before the cut is made. She also keeps budget and time constraints in mind, which shows a respect for the customer that is rarely seen. While the «call in and leave msg» is a bit annoying, it allows the salon to have a «no tip» policy and keeps the prices low. If you’re wanting a frilly place, this may not be for you but if you want truly outstanding haircuts by experts, put judgement aside. You’re in great hands… and scissors!

In 2013, I had long hair that I wanted to cut short. On the morning of my cut, I washed and brushed my hair nice and straight, and I kept it nicely brushed and straight up until the time of my appointment.
When I arrived for my appointment with Daniela, she immediately took me back to get my long hair washed. I told her that my previous stylists preferred to cut my hair dry, and that I had just washed and brushed it before I came in. She insisted on washing it anyway, so we did that. After we were done with the wash, she tried to brush it, and I kid you not, it seemed as though she had just washed it with glue. It was SO tangled that I actually feared we would never get the snarls out. It was tangled basically all the way from my roots to my tips, about 20 inches. After 5 minutes, or so, of her struggling with a comb, she asked in an exasperated voice «does your hair always tangle so easily?!» And I said «Yes, that’s why I said we shouldn’t wash it first. However, this is definitely more tangled than usual. Maybe we should add some more conditioner to it?» So she did. And she handed me a brush. I worked on one side, she worked on the other. I have always babied my hair, starting at the tips to brush, and working my way up. She, however, was tearing the comb through my hair, snapping strands as she went.
Her next customer arrived while we were still brushing my hair. Daniela was visibly irritated and rushing. When she finally decided it was «good enough,» she quickly did the cut and sent me on my way.
Even if the cut had been great, I would have been annoyed, but would have given at least another star. But when I got back to my office and checked my hair in the mirror, it was lopsided in the back and looked terrible.
Now, I am sure that Daniela would have done right by me and fixed it had I returned, but the entire experience left such a terrible taste in my mouth, I had no desire to return. So much so that I lived with a crooked haircut for about 6 months before I went somewhere else to have it corrected, because I preferred the bad haircut to the idea of going back.

I wasn’t even able to get in for an appointment and my experience was kind of bad. I called 4 different times to schedule an appointment over 2 days only to get the machine each time.
When I finally got through the person on the other end acted like I was inconveniencing them by wanting to book an appointment. They need a receptionist or something.
I’ll find somewhere else to get my hair cut for graduation.

Valerie is awesome. I will only get my hair cut or trimmed by her. I haven’t had such a great cut in years and I was initially afraid to go to a salon in bellingham, since I just moved here from NYC. Valerie has about five years of hair cutting and styling under her belt but don’t be fooled by her young appearance. She knows what she’s doing with those shears. :) thanks Valerie, I will see you in three months. Also, Valerie and I had a conversation about the no tipping protocol at galactica, and she was very satisfied with it because it helped her concentrate on just doing a good job on the cut and being friendly and down to earth with customers. I think she is doing a very good job.

I couldn’t recommend Desirae more! She’s relatively new to SG, but I’ve followed her for 4 years now. I’m probably not the typical, cool clientele of almost anywhere in Bellingham. But Desirae has been my go-​to stylist for honest, consistently awesome haircuts for quite a while now.

I came in here, hoping to have a hair rescue from shall I say, artist Valerie Jacobson.
My hair was well worn, hadn’t been touched by knowledgable shears for 2+ years. (I like to think I can cut my own hair.)

Anywho — Valerie was sweet. She wasn’t obnoxious or intruding like some hair connoisseurs. She kept conversation and listened to what I wanted. I came in here wanting to get some bangin’ bangs and she helped me get just that, as well as chopping off 6 or so inches. I walked out super happy with the cut and I think everyone I knew complimented me for two weeks straight on how good my hair looked.
Kudos — keep up the good work! I’ll definitely be back.
P. S. SUPER affordable, and they don’t accept tips.

I Went to Studio Galactica for the first time yesterday on a friend’s recommendation and after seeing reviews on Unilocal.I hadn’t got my hair cut in a very long time and told Valerie that I just wanted to clean it up and make it a little less boring. She was great! Asking lots of questions and making sure that my cut was everything I wanted it to be while also employing her expertise to advise me when I was not sure what would look good. I was particularly concerned with maintaining some of my length (my hair grows at turtle pace) and was pleased with how well Valerie attended to this concern. (Can’t tell you how many times i’ve walked out of other salon with my hair more than a few inches shorter than I wanted after being assured this wouldn’t happen!) It is no wonder that Valerie had clients follow her from her previous location!
Overall, Studio Galactica has a friendly and professional atmosphere with its own funky twist. The «no-​tip» policy was a surprise (a pleasant one for a girl on a budget!), so I feel compelled to spread the word and encourage others to take their business to Studio Galactica. I would definitely recommend a visit!

If you want a great cut or color– Shae is your girl! Interestingly they don’t except tips.

Great place to get your hair done!!! I tried this place after my former hair stylist of 12 years moved out of state! They have there own look/​décor, very alternative but don’t let that scare you away (if its not your style). They listen to whatever hair style/​cut/​color you are looking for. I had Kymberly, and she did a better job than my former hair stylist (and my other one charged more)! Kym did exactly what I wanted and it didn’t fade or change color like some places color does. And no tipping make this place even better! Great straight forward pricing, no «rabbit out of the hat» charges. I would recommend this salon to everyone!

Finally a place that got my hair right! So stoked. And it was very fairly priced. Thanks guys!

I just got a trim up from Shea. She is super friendly and did an amazing job. I love the Atmosphere of the place. It definitely makes me feel like I am in Bellingham. I will be coming back here from now on, And it doesn’t hurt that all the stylists are pretty cute.

I had Daniela today and she was awesome. Great atmosphere and really nice staff. Super easy to talk to. I’m going back tomorrow to go a little darker because my color was just a little lighter and redder than I wanted, but overall stellar job. I love the styling she did. She really listened and was helpful. I’m in town visiting a friend and this studio makes me wish I lived in Bellingham so I could go there 100%. Definitely would recommend!

I have finally found a place I trust with my hair and eyebrows. Daniella and Kimberly are my top choices, but I think everyone is great.

Very friendly and knowledgeable stylists, plus the price was right. I HIGHLY recommend giving them a visit for your next cut or color!

Kim Ross cuts my hair at Studio Galactica… She does a great job with my curly hair. I’ve been going to her for a couple of years now and I’m very happy with my hair style. The studio is really cool too! Lots of out of the ordinary stuff on the walls.

Equal parts art studio, punk rock venue and upscale salon, Studio Galactica brews up creative, affordable looks for anyone. Daniela is a wiz with the shears. She’ll spend much time considering your locks before doing anything. She’s a great listener, and even better advisor.

I recently moved to Bellingham and was nervous to find a new stylist. I am funky at heart but work in a conservative environment so I always try and ride that fine line of having the best of both worlds. Needless to say, it’s hard to find a stylist that gets it.
Within the first 5 minutes of consulting with Deirdre, I knew I was in great hands. She not only had a great vision but she worked within my budget and created a plan we will do over the next couple visits. I just got my hair done last week and I already can’t wait to go back. She’s amazing. I would recommend her to anyone without hesitation. The studio has a wonderful vibe with no pretension. Do yourself a favor and go to Studio Galactica, you won’t regret it.

You have amazing stylist, a cool atmosphere, promote a great product line and are reasonably priced. I too love Deirdre more than life. I recently got a great hair color she suggested I do. I have never received so many compliments about my hair.
She’ll follow up to see if the cut or color is just want you wanted and invite you back in for a touch up if you aren’t quite set on it. Great business practice and customer service.

Talk about the ultimate rock ‘n’ roll studio… Studio Galactica lives up to both it’s name and it’s claim.
While I admit I now get my haircuts elsewhere, I make a point of recommending Studio Galactica to friends and fellow students. Studio Galactica offers one of the more stand-​out salon experiences to be found here in the city of subdued excitement.
Choose any of the girls at Studio Galactica and I’m sure you’ll be pleased! Deirdre does GREAT coloring, and is equally capable with male and female clients.
Studio Galactica sometimes advertises specials (both the salon as a whole, and individual stylists), so check out local papers or simply walk in and see what they have to offer!
