We were in town for my daughter’s soccer tournament. I was looking forward to eating here – authentic mex was definitely the draw. Unfortunately, the food was at best, ick. Carne asada was two pieces of gristly beef – not skirt steak and so tough I ended up just ripping it with my teeth. The people who work there are really nice and I wanted to like it I probably wouldn’t t go back.

Food was ok at best. Service was good but the margarita was about the average for a make out of a bottle. Will not be going the again not worth the price

Ordered a carne asada burrito. Meat flavor was good. Mostly filled with lettuce and tomatoes. Cold plate(in a Mexican restaurant?). Food was luke warm. Dining partner had chicken enchiladas. Food was cold. No liquid sauce on enchiladas(was cooked on). Every third tortilla chip was chewy. Walls are blood red with a few mexican trinkets spread about.

Servers were very nice, but slow and unorganized. We could have forgiven this, but the food was quite frankly the worst Mexican I’ve ever had. Barely lukewarm when it arrived, the«One dozen shrimp in butter and cilantro» were actually 10 shrimp that appeared to have been boiled, no cilantro, no butter. The fajitas were served on the set-up plate, dripping in oil, and definitely NOT sizzling in any sense. We did not eat much of it at all. The servers tried to comp us the meal and offered to let us keep the coupon we had to «give them another chance». They did the right things, but I’m sorry, the food was so terrible, we will not be returning.

I’m a fan of the restaurant Tortillaria Reyes and I found out that they opened a new restaurant closer to my home. The menu is similar, same great food quality, but in a fancier setting than the original restaurant. I go to the Tortillaria when I want take-out and to the new restaurant when I have company. I’ve been to El Rey Azteca 3 times now and the food was consistently great. The last 2 times though, the chips were too greasy. I usually order the tacos, soft-shell with cilantro and onions. You can order hard shell if you want more americanized mex food. Last night I went with a party of 7. Everyone was happy with their food. Free chips come with red and green salsa. If you want pico de gallo you have to ask.
