One of the coolest spots in bend! They have 15 taps and they are all super unique. 2 dart boards and a super chill environment. The service is unbeatable and they have the best jalapeño poppers with flavored cream cheese I’ve ever had in my life. Theres even a cozy loveseat in the back with a tv and they leave the remote right there for your own choosing! The owner must be super hip.

Geeks who Drink every Tuesday, very fun and comfortable atmosphere. The MC is great as well as the«regulars» the bar staff was great. I didn’t try the food but it did look good. If you are looking for a cozy but fun bar, this is the place!

I was in town for work and needed to find a place with four mega-important criteria: * Quiet enough to conduct an interview(important) * Not so quiet that it’s weird(very important) * Good menu with a salad to nosh on(really important) * Awesome wine selection(the MOST important) After combing Bend for two full days, in search of the perfect landing spot, Platypus Pub ended up being the location I was yearning for. I was able to conduct my interview with a bartender who knew just how often to check on us, while eating a delicious roasted turkey salad and sipping a local Pinot. What’s more perfect than that? In fact, I loved it so much I made every excuse to go — which translated to more work getting done — all from the welcoming confines of the Platypus Pub. I’ll be back in Bend next month, and this is most definitely where you can find me. Thanks, PP!

I enjoy the Platypus pub and frequent the trivia night held there. However if you are coming here expecting a restaurant quality visit you may be disappointed. It is a pub in the basement of broken top bottle shop. It is smaller and sparse in decorations. However it is a nice place to meet up with some friends and relax! They have a decent size bar menu– the chicken wings are my husbands favorite. I will say I wasn’t 100% a fan of the tortilla chips– just a tad off to me. I can’t really review too much of the food because I have a lot of food allergies and just can’t eat a lot from their menu– but that is not their fault. I give it a 4*because my husband enjoys it :) They do have a good selection on beers on tap! I would avoid it on Tuesday night– that is trivia night and it gets very loud as this is a small place with unforgiving acoustics.

Went there last night with husband because we’d never been before and found a coupon so thought we’d try it. Had no expectations of it since I hadn’t heard much about it and hadn’t had the chance to check Unilocal. First, the atmosphere of the place — wait! What atmosphere? Crappy tables, crappy lighting, crappy chairs. Rather than being in the basement of this fascinating building, you felt like you were in a poorly converted garage. Since I instantly hated the«restaurant» part, we sat at the small bar and it was quite cute. The bar-tender was super attentive and friendly, they had a great selection of unique taps and she was very knowledgeable about them and generous with tasters. I really quite liked that part. The food was not great though. If I’d felt like someone would have done better, I would have returned the fries for being under-cooked, the pork/hamburger patty for being under-cooked(it was PORK — how does one eat under-cooked pork??) and my bun for being burned but somehow I had the sense was that, for this place, it could be worse so why bother complaining? If you took the food & the rest of the place out, I would give the LITTLE bar 4 stars. The only thing I didn’t like about it was that ALL of their dark-beers were served in 10 ounce snifters rather than 16 ounce pints for the same price(I know, some of them are more expensive but really not a regular stout or porter for regular $$ out of all those taps??) Having said that, it was the most taps I’ve seen devoted to darks in this town so I appreciated having the choice. Plus, the other taps weren’t your run-of-the-mills. They had some very unusual/uncommon offerings which was a pleasant surprise. Whoever is responsible for choosing those taps must be a beer know-it-all :)

Beer selection was good but the food options were sad. Tried the potatoes, «Irish» nachos sub tortilla chips with chicken and wings. The potatoes lacked flavor with a mysterious bacon jelly and white sauce, the nachos were sitting in a puddle of liquid and had cheese sauce with guacamole out of a bag, the wings still had feather remnants. At least the beer drowned the disappointment.

Beer was foamy, food was greasy, staff was nice considering what they had to work with. Atmosphere was lack luster. Lots of potential not being used.

Showed up to have dinner at 8:07pm with my husband and 17 year old daughter. We were asked to leave within 5 minutes because they only allow minors until 8. Really? In a town loaded with breweries and pubs who allow minors as late as 11pm, I think you might want to reconsider that 8pm policy and change it to a more reasonable time. You might also want to move your sign to your door instead of putting it up so high nobody notices it. I would have been nice to avoid your waitress, who wasn’t rude, but acted like we were trying to do something wrong & started questioning my daughter about her age instead of talking to her parent who was sitting next to her. Uncool! I will have a hard time visiting your pub again for a while.

I had a wonderful experience here. I checked out the Brew & Bottle Shop upstairs and it was amazing! Such a huge selection of bottled beers from around the country as well as every piece of equipment you’d need to brew your own. The pub downstairs was my favorite part though. I met one of the owners, Tom, and he was incredibly nice, helpful, and even hooked me up with«Hailey’s Comet» of beers while I was there(perfect timing). The keg had just went on tap a couple hours prior to my arrival and it couldn’t have been a beer experience. Love this place. If you are in Bend, THISIS A MUSTVISIT!

Food was great and service was good, however the«hip» gentleman hosting Trivia night was a bit of an ass. First impressions are everything and based on my first experience i do not see my self going back, nor would i recommend this place on a Tuesday night or any other for that matter.

First off, let me start by saying the bottle and brew supply shop is awesome. They get 4 stars. Totally different story for the pub downstairs. I have only been to the pub once which was a while ago but I was excited to finally attend their happy hour which at the time was free pizza from 4−6pm daily. We got there at 5:15pm and there wasn’t any pizza out. I asked the waitress if happy hour pizza was still going on ans she said, «yes the chef is making them now and it should be out in 10 min. At 5:30 I asked again about the pizza and she said it is going to take a little longer. We ordered beers waiting for it to come out and at 6pm we asked the waitress again and she said, «Oh the chef actually decided not to make it since it is 6pm and happy hour is over. I was like, «well your sign says there is free pizza at happy hour daily from 4−6pm. She rolled her eyes and asked if we wanted to order any food. Other customers were upset as well. We ordered a hot wings and when they came out there were 5 tiny little wings. They tasted like your typical grocery store wings and barely had any meat on them. I called the manager and nicely told him what happened in the pub. Instead of saying, «I am sorry to hear that, thank you for letting me know. Why don’t you give us another try», He got defensive and defended the happy hour sign by saying well it isn’t exactly from 4−6pm. Even though I got their at 5:15pm and there wasn’t any pizza. I definitely won’t be back.

Food = 3(pork sandwich was below average) Price = 3(not cheap… just saying) Experience = 3(it was comedy night… which was just okay… but, it’s a terrible place for any type of show… the columns block most of the views. No windows basement type place… I’m not ever remotely tempted to go back… sorry) Okay beer selection and good service makes up for a lot here.

Lots of folks throw around the term beer city usa while not technically true Bend is a brew mecca and that being said this is that meccas prayer rug. The best homebrew store i have found sits upstairs from a cozy little pub down a quick flight of stairs. The brew shop is staffed by the owners all retired postal workers so spare them any grief, and all 3 are very well versed is all aspects of fermentation be it beer wine cider or mead hell they even carry cheese making supply’s. But back to the real review the Platty as everyone calls it 16 taps of rotating goodness national regional and local. Best selection of beer in town by far. This is the place the brewers drink at any given night you will bump into boneyard boys the goodlife crew. Dechutes guys i could go on but you get the point. Currently Robert runs the upstairs kitchen and he loves to cook and it shows. The bar staff is quick and knowledgeable besides great beer they have local spirits for that one person who needs a cocktail. Five stars go visit!

A mellow Tuesday afternoon in the warm weather of late June, this place is more than befitting. The lounge/bar/dining area is located a few stairs under the converted church and feels cool, shady and just right for a beer lover in Bend. Food is pretty damn good; fries are exceptional, with the house style seasoning, the Platypus burger was unexpectedly tangy with the sausage like burger party and beer sampler is damn worth it. Live long and Fuckin prosper. Pardon my language that place is Holy.

Great potential, but disappointing on the inside considering the charming church location. We had planned to eat dinner there but ended up with beer and cider only as we were thought the menu was in need of improvement and the atmosphere was lacking.

I had to give this place 5 stars because this is as good as it gets when it comes to a converted church. This may be the only church to bar conversion I’ve been to — but how much better can it get. I’m not one to go to church and I’ll go back to this place over and over. Good beer choices and knowledgeable staff. Plus — while I was there there was free pizza as a happy hour special.

Pub in Bend with a Brew Supply and Bottle Shop upstairs. Very cozy feel in basement where the draft beer and bar is. If you are looking for a great beer selection and lots of intel on beer and brewing then head here. Had a delicious pizza for my dinner. 8″ enough for one person, maybe share. Friendly staff. Could use a little more décor, that’s a work in progress, they are only a 1 year plus old. They have events featuring different breweries. Get on their email list, facebook, and twitter for these announcements

I was glad to see the old Ernesto’s location take on a new tenant finally. The brew shop upstairs has a great selection of equipment and beer. The food in the pub is ok, but not all that impressive. The clam chowder is the best thing I have had there. I finally had a chance to take advantage… at least I thought… of what their big sign out front states. HAPPYHOUR4TO6FREEPIZZA. This is how Ernesto’s used to pack it’s basement bar. I cruised in about 4:45PM and ordered up a tall one, feeling really hungry, I asked the waiter if the happy hour pizza was availiable not seeing anything around. He said, «oh that usually comes out at 5:00. «I’m thinking to myself, did I read the sign wrong??? After 5:00 I asked again about the FREEHAPPYHOURPIZZA, still none in sight. The owner said if the cook gets busy it can be even later. There were ten people in the whole place and only 4 were eating. Wow, I would hate to be the cook if the place was one quarter full. This is bad business. I felt lied to after driving by the sign for weeks. At that point I left and will most likely not be back. I advised the owner that he should change his sign. Therefore a 1 star for the Platypus.(picture of sign attached)
