I’m blown away by people who rate these sandwiches high. I’m NOTINSULTING anyone. It’s just that to me this is such obviously bad food. Oh well, different strokes I suppose. No thanks. Your typical west coast sandwich chain. Pushed through like cattle and fed like them too. The sandwiches are wimpy, flavorless, very little meat and it takes way to long to make. If you like bread and lettuce then this is the place for you. You’d be better off going to the Safeway deli and spend an agonizing 20 minutes watching them make a sandwich than to go here. At least you’d get better food.

This place used to be the best place to get sandwiches. After a bit of a hiatus and returning to Bend, I decided to stop by. First, thing when entering the door we were hit with a strong stench coming from the back, which was a bit off putting. I also was not to thrilled with the staff. They were not friendly at all and made us feel like we were intruding on their time. We got our sandwiches and they tasted different. Not as good as I used to remember them being. I was gonna get another one for the road to have later, but decided it was not worth it. So we ate what we got and headed back on the road home.

Subs are good. Service is bad. «Do you know what you want.» Were the first words out of the girls mouth. Didn’t even look at me when she said it. No smile or anything. I felt like I was just a bother to her.

First off, I have been going to this location for over 3+ years. Sandwiches and prices used to be awesome. Durning the last 6 months EVERYTHING has gone down hill. Their meat slices used to be a decent thickness, now they are PAPERTHIN. I’m not kidding. I was able to see thru the salamie. The first time this happened, I thought the slicer was on the wrong setting. After the 3rd time having this happen, it is their new norm. Then they rised the price on the sandwich from $ 6.49 to $ 8.50… a $ 2 increase overnight and paper thin meat! Really people? That plus unfriendly service. no smiles, no greeting. I can tell you this, I will no longer be eating there. I used to get sandwiches their for my Dept. employees when we had meeeting, No more. The cost is too high and the quality has gone done hill. Folks, you do not rise prices by $ 2 and then barely put any meat on a sandwich! The rest of your customers don’t ever see that type of riase in their pay yearly. a $ 0.75 cent riase, I can understand. $ 2 insane. I will now be going to subway. Cheaper, thicker meat, and they at least greet you there!

Love the freshness of the sandwiches, meat and cheese sliced fresh for every sub. I hate to sound like a broken record but it seems like a large majority of reviews focus on the customer service being sub par and I tend to agree. I love the sandwiches but please get your employees to smile every once in a while, it really goes a long way to making your customers feel welcome.

Let me start off by saying that the sandwiches are 5 stars — the service gets 1 star. They do not greet you, they act annoyed to have customers and if you come in to get a sandwich within an hour of their closing time, they basically intimidate you into leaving since they have already done all their closing duties and have put everything away/cleaned the cutter and you will catch even more attitude than usual in this situation(which is super awkward and uncomfortable– the opposite of good customer service. They are 100% more friendly at McDonalds. I feel like the service here did use to be much better and has gone downhill. It’s getting hard to justify driving up to the north end of town to get one of their delicious sandwiches when I know they will be so very unpleasant to me — and reading others’ reviews on here it looks like I am not alone in my sentiments. I would say to the owner train your staff to be pleasant and appreciate customers’ business, but I’m not sure if that is possible at all with your current crew. They are plenty of friendly people in town still looking for work that would only be too willing to put on a smile and make a sandwich, and –gasp– be able to greet customers.

The subs are good. Take a little time as they have to slice everything, but I love fresh sliced smoked cheddar. That said, as someone who has been a manager for a number of years, most of the employees lack initiative and are not the best customer service representatives for a business. Not a great place to grab a bite when it is lunch time if you are in a hurry.

You couldn’t crowbar a smile out of this staff. I understand the job is menial, i’ve worked customer service jobs for 10 years now, i’ve had«bad days» where i didn’t feel like going to work and being«CHIPPER» but for the LOVEOFGOD, at least pretend you are at your favorite minimum wage job. I am a regular, and will continue to be, because they are nearby and good. I’m eating a delicious hot chicken and cheddar wrap as i speak, but if they acted like customers matter… just a little, this place would be my favorite. At least ACT like customers matter for the few hours you are working, then be miserable when you get home. I tip every time for the product, but i feel like i’m paying for the passive aggressive guilt trip i get for walking in the door.

First time going to this place today. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the restaurant, and the fresh products. I really liked that they slice the meat to order, that’s pretty cool. I got the #1, and it was really good. Nice selection of add-ons like pepperoncini, parmesan cheese, red onions, olives, avocado(for extra $), etc. Overall, the sandwich was delicious, even down to the fresh bread. HOWEVER, the ONLY reason this place lost those 2 stars from me(And I’m pretty easy to win over) was the staff… No one greeted me when I walked in at all. Not even a cheerful, «Welcome to _______!» As you would hear walking into Subway… The entire time I was setting up my order at the counter, NOONE smiled. Not one single smile!!! They didn’t really even look at me… It made the experience awkward and a little intimidating for me. I felt like I was a nuisance to them, and all I wanted was a dang sandwich. Hey, owners! If you’re reading this, PLEASE talk to your staff about customer service and press this issue big time! It changes the whole entire experience. To be completely honest, I’m not really in a rush to go back in there because it didn’t feel welcoming. If they’re miserable at work, then your customers are going to walk out of there feeling miserable too. I’ll give it a try in a few months, and see if the staff has perked up at all. Too bad!

Ironically, following SL’s post: In fact, I DO travel great distances to eat at Port of Subs – I lived in Medford until recently and now in Eugene, and for work, travel on a regular but rare basis to Bend, and every time I do, I have to go to Port of Subs. When visiting my family in Seattle, I have chosen motels in cities simply and solely because of the proximity to a Port of Subs franchise. So, color me a big, big fan. I grew up in Seattle in the 60s and 70s, and ate regularly at Zilly’s; I have never found a chain sub shop that was any good at all – Port of Subs has disabused me of that notion(now, if only they’d get west of the Cascades in Oregon.. .). Polite, responsive staff, fresh ingredients, NO mayo, american cheese(or any processed«cheese»), sticky-sweet sauces for the masses – just good fresh meats, veggies and cheese on good fresh bread with oil, vinegar, salt, pepper and oregano.

Coming from Reno, NV where Port of Subs originated from, I am THRILLED they are here! The staff is incredible. They don’t even need to ask me what I want, they just know since I am there so often. They’re so nice, and always friendly to my kiddo. I love love love their food and you get a lot for your money.

This place is OK. The sandwiches are good, but a little spendy for a chain sub shop. I certainly wouldn’t travel any distance to eat here. And on more than one occasion I have ordered a sandwich in advance only to arrive and have to wait while they make it.
