BEND, OR: «Hello! This is Tumalo Lavender returning your call.» Yes, I had called to try to verify hours but had left no message. However, I appreciated the return call as we happened to be in Bend at the moment. Mr. Knight was willing to have us drop by and just suggested that give him another call when I got to the farm so that he could open the gift shop. Twenty minutes later, we arrived and was greeted warmly by Jazzmine, the farm’s mascot and PR poochie. The shop smelled wonderfully of… fresh lavender! They grow certified organic lavender and sell lavender plants and lavender gift products. I purchased lavender floral water(a great organic insect repellant safe, too, for dogs), food quality lavender buds, Herbs De Provence for marinade and as salad sprinkles, lavender lip balm, and two Lavender Lemon Pound cake mixes for gifts. The lavender bushes were still pretty dormant looking but I bet they are quite a destination for local insects and human tourists at the height of growing season. Mr. Knight, one of the proprietors, was so gracious and friendly. If you like, or have special folks in your life who enjoys lavender, make a trip out to visit as they’re just 25 minutes outside of downtown Bend. My goodies have been stashed in our travel trailer and what a heavenly smell that closet has whenever I open it! If you’re unable to make it to Bend, they do online orders too!
