Love Hampton Inns, but this one wasn’t up to par. It seems to be in the middle of a renovation, so am hoping that it will soon improve. Main complaint is how much our non-smoking room smelled like smoke. Also, the hospitality area/breakfast bar doubles as a bar at night which seemed strange. Friendly and helpful front desk though.

Really disappointing Hampton Inn. Front desk staff is friendly and helpful, but the hotel is older and in need of a significant renovation. Very few power outlets in the room — none on the top of the desk, you have to crawl underneath. If you want to plug in your phone bedside you will have to unplug the lamp or clock. Air conditioner VERY noisy when it goes on and off. Strange«perfume» odor in the rooms. Probably wouldn’t stay here again if I can avoid it.

I own a Philadelpha Private Gym down the street from the Hampton Inn. I also run the Bensalem Business Association. Bensalem has many hotels and I have tried to talk to all of them about the BBA. Hampton Inn has been the only hotel in Bensalem so far that sees the value in getting involved with the local businesses. Our first year as an association the Hamtpn Inn allowed us to us there meeting room for our meetings at no charge for 6 months. Since I own Philadelphia Private Gym I have ACE workshops to keep up with what is new as a personal trainer for myself, my staff and other trainers. At the workshops we will have trainers come in from out of state. The Hampton Inn has been able to work with us. Recently they have done a major make over. Even the outside has been redone. Bottom line is I have used them, my friends and family have. And I have sent many of people over to them. Last month I called to ask if they have a room for a visiting client of mine and since they did not they went out of there way to find me a place for him to go. And that was a competitor of there’s they sent me to. Service is what makes them who they are.

Sigh. In the middle of a much needed renovation. I only stayed here because I am a whore for Hilton points.

I train for a living. I get to Bensalem at least once a year, and have been to this hotel at least seven times over the last few years. So, I think I’m in a good position to judge its service. I am a Hilton Honors Gold member, and most of my points have been accrued from stays at Hampton Inns around the country. I generally prefer them, for their consistency. The room rate includes a decent breakfast, which is remarkably consistent from Hampton Inn to Hampton Inn, and stay to stay at the same hotel. Many Hampton Inns have small group meeting rooms, which you can rent for a day rate that seems to average around $ 250 or so… less if you have sleeping guests in the hotel and negotiate a bit. This one has a meeting room we have used several times for training and sales meetings. A few Hampton Inns have bars; This one does, and though it’s small, it’s great for a beer or cocktail or two before a designated driver in your party takes you to dinner. By now, you’re wondering, «Why did he give this place only two stars?» Well, of all the Hampton Inns I’ve stayed in, this one has my least favorite guest rooms. It seems that something is always broken, missing, malfunctioning, or uncomfortable. This past week, I spent four days in a room with a heater that would not adjust properly. It seemed to have a mind of its own. The same setting would be too cold, too hot, or changing rapidly between the two extremes. The toilet would not flush properly, and clogged with just two or three squares of TP in it. I had to call for maintenance to plunge it three times. The floor lamp blinked on and off, and made strange bzzzts and other electrical noises. It shocked me once when I turned it on. There was a burned out flood lamp in the overhead light fixture in the bathroom. Rust came out of the faucet at the little bar sink. The desk chair is squeezed between the bed and the desk so tightly that only a skinny teenager could sit in it without discomfort. The ancient TV has a volume control that does not maintain consistent volume from channel to channel. The bed is lumpy and you can feel every spring poking you in the side. The comforter is so hot you would have to sleep at 50 degrees to use it. I’ve stayed here only once in a room that didn’t have at least a couple of issues. Hilton sent me a survey tonight, and I answered it pretty much the same way I wrote this review. I WISH I could give them four stars, as I would for most of their other Hampton Inns and Doubletree properties. But not for this one! UPDATE: I received two emails about my Hilton review of this hotel, one from the hotel manager, and one from a guy at corporate. Both were apologetic and offered me a free night’s stay there for my hassles. Good response, guys, but I’d rather you just clean up the hotel and repair things, so my associates and I who stay here will have better experiences next time.

This is actually a pretty nice Hampton Inn. The rooms(at least the one I had) were good sized mini suites with separate living area. They have a nice meeting room and provided meeting accoutrements admirably. I didn’t get out and about in the neighborhood that much but it seemed to be a safe working class neighborhood. Safe enough for a nice evening stroll anyway.
