I was in a bachelor party that went to shoot trap at Rattlesnake Mountain Shooting Facility last weekend, and loved it so much we’re going back next week before the wedding. Facilities: I’ve shot trap every so often since I was young, mainly out on backcountry roads with buddies and clay thrower. I’ve shot at one other range, and Rattlesnake is far better than most ranges I’ve seen. The location is great, the facilities are incredibly clean, comfortable, and maintained. Culture: All parts of Rattlesnake’s operation have safety as the paramount priority, and it shows. All Range Safety Officer’s that we met were great in explaining the process and communicating with us to instruct us how they preferred we proceed according to their policies. Didn’t feel uncomfortable or unsafe at any point. All RSO’s are volunteer, avid shooters themselves, and were knowledgeable about firearms troubleshooting when some of our shotguns jammed from reloads that weren’t made properly. Also, they were incredibly generous, as we showed up an hour before close on a Saturday afternoon, and started having all sorts of issues within our party. Prices: Prices were great compared to some other ranges I’ve seen. There’s a $ 5 visitor fee for non-members, then $ 4 per round per person. One round = 25 clays a person(or close to it). Just a heads up, they only take cash or check, and there are no ATMs available at the facility. Bring cash ahead of time. Earplugs are included with your $ 5 fee, since I forgot my hearing protection. Here I’ll detail the generosity of Steve(our RSO for the day): 1. We had multiple jams due to poorly-done reloaded shells. First, my Remington pump-action jammed hard, and to keep things moving smoothly Steve had me hand my shotgun off to another RSO who worked on the jam, while I borrowed another shotgun from our party. Then, the borrowed gun jammed hard as well, and Steve let me borrow his personal Browning Citori XT(very nice over-under that runs about $ 3,000. See ). I couldn’t believe how incredibly generous Steve was, and he also had me wear his shooting vest so I could use the pad and have shell storage(since we went through about 400 clays between the 5 of us). 2. Since the reload shells weren’t working with most of our shotguns, Steve gave us 5 boxes of shells to use. I’m not sure if they were his personal or from the TCSA club. I offered to pay him back and he wouldn’t take our money. Stand up guy. 3. We showed up late in the day, and had so many issues with our jams that we went about a half hour past closing time. We helped clean up our area really fast, and then Steve said he would handle the rest and close down the facility. Another generous gesture, since he knew we wanted to show the groom-to-be a good time. Summary: this is a phenomenal place to shoot. Whether you’re a newbie just learning, or shoot consistently, or are getting back into(like us), the volunteer staff are patient, knowledgeable, and generous. They take their work seriously, and respect their facility. It was an absolute joy to shoot here, and I hope I can come back when I’m in town. Thanks to Steve and the TCSA for having us.

This is an outdoor shooting range on the shoulder of Rattlesnake Mountain. There are two sets of lanes. I also heard there is another area for those with shotguns(for skeet shooting?). Bring eye & ear protection. Check-in as soon as you pull up. When I was there, I paid $ 5. They gave me a target(which was stapled onto a target frame). The staff ran things with safety as a top priority.
