Ordered takeout while on assignment in Berea. I ordered the whitefin burger with onion rings. The buyer was delicious and well done the onion rings were incredibly salty. Bit other than that it was great for a quick working lunch. The menu selection was great and I there were plenty of things that sounded delicious. I would definitely eat there again should I stop in Berea.

Main Street Café isn’t the best option for meals in Berea, but their food is okay. I have experience poor service in the past, but the range of options that they provide is nice. Over all, it can be a good place to have lunch meetings.

Love this place. Food is consistently good and nice quality. Lots of variety and good options for vegetarians, too. The service is a little slow but that’s usually because it is busy and food it cooked to order. A nice place for a leisurely lunch.

Server was hopping! She was working numerous tables and keeping the orders moving smoothly. As she worked, she bussed. Really, she upped this a star. Menu is diverse with options for the critter avoiding of your party. Food was on par with any café; however, it was hot! The flavors were well balanced without being palate challenging. The chips that came with the sandwich were ruffles knock offs that were well beneath what a touristy kitsch-fest should be serving. Go with bagged kettle chips that you warm under the broiler if you are desperate, but the really great sandwiches need a better supporting cast. I had a lovely little cookie to top it off that was a lovely chewy peanut butter cookie that was perfect. Not super sweet, just a really good cookie made with real stuff. Two stars deducted for lack of palate challenging(though it would be detrimental to sales to the locals) and the chip selection(though I could have upped to fries for 99 cents). Addition of star for above average service and I know I look like hell today, so it must be how she is with everyone.

A mediocre meal, poor value-for-money, lengthy service and poor hygiene. I popped into the Main Street Café for a quick lunch today at about 11:00. Visually the place looks as if it’s attempting to be a hip bistro, though the cake display case looks like something from a hospital cafeteria(racks covered in old cling film, plates likewise covered with cling film, with filthy glass and metal surfaces that clearly haven’t been cleaned in weeks). A glance at the menu reinforces that«bistro» attitude, with things like goat cheese burgers and the like… and prices to match. The menu itself is sticky with God knows what. I’m the only table here, but it still takes a few minutes before my server comes over. My server appears disheveled and is a bit loud, trying a bit too hard to give off the appearance of friendliness. I order a cup of hot tea and she brings out a cup of hot water and several different tea bags, though no sugar or milk is anywhere to be found. She reads off the soups of the day and emphasizes emphatically that the chili does indeed contain meat(though I’d not asked her about this nor expressed anything that would suggest I’m a vegetarian, which made this seem as if I should feel guilty for eating meat). I order the Reuben with onion rings, and wait. And wait. And wait some more. The server comes by and let’s me know it’s because«they’re just now opening,» though it’s 11:20ish at this point. 30 minutes after I’d ordered, my food arrives. It looks good on the plate, with marble rye for the bread and nice golden onion rings, an average size portion of each. I bite into an onion ring and it’s nice and crispy, but bland. They have a hint of smoky charcoal flavor, indicating the oil in which they’d been cooked is old and dark and full of burned bits of food and long overdue for a change. They’re also obviously not homemade: they’re identical to the onion rings you’d get at any chain restaurant like Applebee’s, likely bought in from a food supply company. They’re not bad with some catsup. While I’m eating, the server comes by no fewer than 3 times in a 15-minute window to ask how I’m getting on. Bugger off already; I’m the same as I was the last 2 times, thanks. While I’m eating, various employees behind the counter have a loud conversation about local politics. Not exactly the bistro atmosphere the décor and the John Mayer music is giving the impression of. The Reuben is disappointing, especially when you consider they took 30 minutes to make it for their only customer. It’s appallingly dry. I don’t know how anything smothered in sauerkraut and thousand Island dressing and cheese can be so dry. Nothing about it seems freshly-made. The corned beef is clearly many days past its slicing date, with a consistency of week-old Thanksgiving turkey. The bread feels like sandpaper in my mouth. It’s edible, but definitely nothing better than what you’d make at home from leftovers. In fact, that’s exactly what it feels like: eating leftovers. And that would be fine, except I’m paying bistro prices. With the lowest gratuity their POS system lets you select automatically(18%), my check comes out to $ 12.34(which you can’t find out until you go to the counter to pay; your cost is not written on the check). And that’s with my student discount knocking off $ 1.07. Looking back into the food preparation area from the POS counter shows dirty surfaces everywhere, from walls and doors to refrigerators and food prep areas. I could understand this at the end of a shift, but not when I’m the only customer you’ve had. Literally anywhere else in Berea is a better value-for-money, and literally anywhere in Berea that isn’t fast food has a higher quality of food. Disappointing in every way.

I have gone to this restaurants multiple times and I keep coming back to hope that I order something better. However, every time I go I’m disappointed. The prices are pretty high for the taste and the service! The last time I stopped by I never once got a refill for my drink after finishing it in about 15 minutes. The waitress was nice, but I suggest she pay a little more attention to her customers needs.
