Hunan Express

There food is just okay but they do an amazing lo mein. The best part about this Chinese restaurant is they have a drive thru. First and only one I’ve seen its super convenient.

Happily, this is our new go-​to Chinese take-​out place. We’ve only had the wonton and egg drop soups, chicken wings, boneless spare ribs, and a couple of shrimp entrees so far. However, everything has been well above average. The riblets are perfection — sweet, meaty and not over cooked.
The place is old and dingy but you can see into the very clean kitchen. There’s a drive-​through window that we haven’t used yet. Nice people, good prices.

I don’t eat Chinese food often, but when I do, my family orders from this place. We’ve been getting Chinese food from them ever since we moved nearby the area. We’ve basically become a «regular» to them, the lady who usually answers the phone remembers who we are and knows where live. The delivery man is friendly and comes quickly.
I’ve never been inside Hunan Express, but from what I see on the outside, it may need a little bit of fixing up in the inside. They have a drive thru pick up delivery window that’s next to the restaurant, just order beforehand and let them know its pickup, drive up to the window when its ready and ring the doorbell located next to the window. There are other Chinese food restaurants in Bergenfield, but majority of them don’t deliver, so this is probably the only option for me that I know of. They also have half and full trays for like catering events, but I don’t think having Chinese food catered is a good idea, since it’ll eventually get cold and be unappetizing.
As for the food, it’s not that satisfying, it’ll just fill you up with all its oily and salty goodness. I think that the proportions of the food are uneven, such as beef with broccoli, you’ll definitely get more broccoli than meat. Sometimes the General Tso’s chicken is perfect, but at times, it’s really dry and overcooked.

Old time locals know, this is THE place to get chinese take out.
I do not expect much from Chinese Take Out places, but among Chinese Take Out joints, Hunan Express is the best, by far.
Overall, Hunan Express is the king of all Chinese take out places in the area.
My favorite appetizers.
1) Cold Noodles with Peanut Sauce — I add julienned cucumbers and cilantro which made it more thai than chinese, but it makes it infinitely tastier. I love their peanut sauce. It’s an appetizer but it’s big enough to be a meal.
2) Scallion pancakes — Hunan’s SP is surprisingly delicious even tho it’s a Korean dish. Theirs is actually better than some Korean restaurant’s scallion pancakes!

Called Hunan Express for dinner, as we were both tired and hungry and in the mood for good Chinese. Quick to order, read back what we ordered (combo platters, plus Fried dumplings) everything came, Quickly, and correct. Hot and fresh. what more can you ask for.
Recommend the General TSO’s chicken, not to doughy which is great, it actually tasted like chicken, and not dough.

My favorite local chinese takeout joint since I was a kid… They have a DRIVE THRU WINDOW! which makes picking up much more convenient in the cold weather.
