Not sure what these bad reviews are about. My family has been coming here for dry cleaning since we moved to Berkeley Heights in ’98. My parents are currently living in Switzerland, where dry cleaning is ACTUALLY pricey — think $ 75 for a little black dress(what are you people complaining about???) — and whenever possible, they bring or send their clothes back here for dry cleaning.(It’s not just the price — it’s the quality!) Service is great; everyone is friendly, and they do a fantastic and well-organized job. Newcomers receive a page with discount coupons for the first three times you bring clothes there for cleaning. I brought about six shirts in, and as the lady I spoke to sorted through the stack, she told me that I would be better off hand-washing some of the shirts myself — it’s nice to see that the business owners are honest and respectful enough to tell me when dry cleaning certain items would be a waste of money. I also had them clean a hand-dyed and –printed silk sample that I made in my art school textiles class; I was worried that the dyes or pigments would wash out, but it came back to me just as good as new. And THAT is how I judge quality. This is a great place.

This was my first time using Berkeley cleaners. I dropped of 4 pieces. 1 sleeveless tank style shirt, 1 cashmere sweater, 1 cotton blend top, 1 men’s top. They did a nice job with the cleaning but when I got the original bill they wanted to charge me $ 31 and change. Thank god I had a competers coupon good for 40% off. I thought their prices were very high for what I had cleaned. Compared to other cleaners in the area. The staff was very friendly, and there is plenty of free parking.

I am all for supporting my local business community but this was such a scam I have learned my lesson. I normally have used the cleaners a little further away because I never noticed Berkeley Cleaners but I thought I would give them a try once I realized they were there. Staff was very friendly. The problem was when I came to pick up 12 sweaters and saw that I was being charged $ 11.50 for 4 cashmere sweaters to be dry cleaned: NONE of my sweaters were cashmere!!! I asked how much a sweater was for dry cleaning and I was told $ 5.50 for a regular sweater which was wool. Cotton and acrylic is $ 7.50 and if it’s a cardigan it’s more. I had to ask her to re –add up all of my sweaters and look at all the tags so they didn’t rip me off anymore. I’ll never go back and I can’t believe that if I didn’t look at the bill and see they were charging me for cashmere sweater dry cleaning I would have been ripped off more than the inflated prices they were already charging. Lesson learned. Just thought I would share and hope you all have a better experience.
