This was my first time at Amazing crab, and frankly, it was not worth the time or money. Between two people, we ordered a half pound of shrimp, a half pound of crawfish, a half pound of crab legs, and a side of rice; and we thought this would be beyond filling. However, what came to us was literally two crab legs(exact numbers, here), and a handful of crawfish and shrimp each. It was extremely disappointing to realize that we paid 12 bucks for two measly crab legs… The waitress was extremely nice, although it did take her awhile to bring us the rice, utensils, and seasoning(though this is not a huge problem at all). Taste wise, there was nothing to complain about with our experience. The«amazing mix» sauce did not disappoint.

Jeez. Where to start. Came to the restaurant at 3 pm. Door was unlocked so my date and I let ourselves in. We were stared at for about five seconds by who I guess were the owners and then told rudely they were closed until 3:30. Ok. Came back at 3:30 and and the place was decently busy. I ordered a half pound of «amazing mix» spicy shrimp, two corn on the cobs, and sweet potato fries. My date ordered clam chowder, a half pound of shrimp, and a corn piece. Well. He found a plastic fork tine in his soup. Furthermore there was no clam in his soup. It was pretty much loaded baked potato soup. Not bad, but not what we asked for. The sweet potato fries came and they were extremely sweet. It was almost like eating fried yams. They were also lukewarm. It was around this time I noticed another customer sending food back for being cold. My order came and was missing a corn cob. Asked the server about it and she seemed extremely confused but promised she would bring another piece out. The shrimp were small and headless. Why? Everyone knows the head is the best part. Furthermore I am almost 100% sure we got less than half a pound. The sauce tasted like spicy watery tomato sauce. The shrimp was lukewarm. The piece of corn I did receive was sitting in the sauce and extremely soggy. When I bit into it, it was like mush. Darn. Wish I hadn’t asked for that second piece now. Customers were ordering crab, and for a place called the«Amazing Crab» you would think they would have it in stock. But nope. The sever had to awkwardly explain that despite just opening for the day, they were out of crab. If you are going to blatantly rip off a good restaurant – Boiling Crab– at least try not to tarnish its reputation by making a crappy knock off. I won’t be coming back.

Looks are deceiving in this restaurant. My gf and I went there for dinner and yes their food is gigantic but the quality and price of the food was very disappointing. Service was fast and efficient, but the food was dry and over cooked. The crab was slightly cold when I got it, the tilapia was overcooked, the fries had too much seasoning, and the rice was extremely dry. The lemon pepper wings were pretty good, however they were $ 9 for 10 pieces and they weren’t even good sized. All in all it was okay. Just remember, quality over quantity.

We were the last customer tonight, I didn’t realize that no one else was in the restaurant. Ambiance of the bar looks great, nice graffiti and art, flat screen Tv on point. We ordered just a small snack, my wifey and I wanted some seafood and rice. Once the food came out, we were so excited, we finish praying and took a bite of the food; shrimp tasted flavorless, sausage was old, the sauce was watery, rice tasted dry and old, The food definitely ruined my Sunday. I realized I have been a fan of boiling crab in San Jose, or Rays crab shack in newark Cali for a reason, there fresh food/professional chef and business owners are kitchen oriented people, «amazing crab»? It was not amazing. Let’s not talk about service, I do recommend for you to try the place for yourself and see if you think it’s amazing. Thank you and take care.

I really wanted to love this place. We wanted to find something closer to home since Ray’s Crabshack(Union City) is one of our favorites. By comparison, Amazing Crab’s Mix sauce was not especially complex or flavorful. It’s very earthy tasting… almost like too much thyme… but not sure what it was. The shrimp were large and succulent but it’s almost like they boiled the shrimp then threw it in the sauce: the flavors of the sauce didn’t permeate the shrimp’s flesh. DON“T ORDERTHEMUSSELLS: They were cold. The waiter was nice enough to refresh our order but, like the shrimp, it’s almost like they precooked the mussels and threw them in the sauce. They were not steaming hot like newly cooked fresh mussels should be.

Friday; 8:45 pm Attire: Casual Environment: loud, two TVs w/different channels; music; no door to block cooking sounds from the kitchen Service wasn’t great. The host told us to seat ourselves, but we weren’t sure where the menus were… after deciding what to get and returning our menus it took a while for the waiter to come around to take our order and even longer to bring us water. The food came way late too, but we’ll blame the chef for that one. Food: jambalaya, shrimp, clams, sweet potato fries, corn, red potato, rice Jambalaya: ONPOINT. It was pretty spicy, came with a lot of meat and vegetables [places tend to cheat by having way too much rice]. 5 stars. Shrimp: good but don’t think we got a pound like we ordered. The flavoring we ordered hasn’t sunk into the meat of the shrimp when it came out. 3 stars. Clams: a lot of empty shells. Not happy. 1 star. Sweet potato fries: too crispy but came with a large basket. Wish it wasn’t so overdone. 3 stars. Side dishes: corn was good, red potatoes are great with the seafood, rice is overcooked and overpriced. All in all this place is average. Seeing as there isn’t another place for seafood near campus I’ll probably come again, but it’s not one of my favorites.

I had a pretty awkward experience here last night when I asked for tartar sauce. It went somewhat like this… Me: Can I have some tartar sauce please? Asian Waitress in mid-20s: Really?(annoyed look) She then walks a few steps toward the back counter, then shouts, «Really?!» Not only was I confused when she said that, but it was also extremely unprofessional and inconsiderate. I felt so uncomfortable for the remainder of my dinner experience as this was the first time in the 5 times I’ve been there that a waiter/waitress said something like this to my face… Definitely not a place I would come back to or recommend to others. In addition, I realized that their food quality has downgraded. Their crawfish, for example, is no longer cooked live. Their shrimps seem to be cooked from a frozen stock. And they are very conservative about their sauce, which lacks flavor anyway… I can’t speak on behalf of the crab or their other menu items, except for maybe their cajun fries, which is mediocre. I would recommend Ray’s Crab Shack if you want quality food AND service!

Nothing compared to 938 Crawfish in Berkeley. The buffalo wings? Disgusting. Coated with Tabasco sauce instead of a buffalo sauce. The po boy full of vegetables not enough shrimp. This isn’t subway. The steam pots are overpriced and the seasonings taste nothing like anything Cajun. Try again

Would rather have my cajun style seafood at Kickin’ Crab in Orange County. Seems like they have a little bit of knowledge in French/Italian Cuisine and tried to mix it up with cajun style seafood. Place is alright.

I really wanted this place to work out for me but the food was not just lack luster, some of it tasted just bad. The crawfish cajun seasoning was OK. There was something just not right with the seasoning. And I am comparing this with crawfish that I used to eat back in South Texas and Louisiana. The corn was OK as well. It tasted as if it had been cooked twice. The crunch was nearly gone from the niblets. The garlic bread was not edible. It tasted like burnt plastic. I bit two pieces of bread to make sure it wasn’t just one bad slice, but it wasn’t. I’m sure they have something on their menu they make very well but I’m not going to go back and try it. On to the next restaurant.

Try the spice sauce! You will not regret it. Even though service was lacking and could have been way better, the shrimp was tender and juicy, while the cajun fries were everything. I will def. come back here again.

The guy at the counter was on the phone when we walked in for lunch on Monday, but didn’t acknowledge us, so after we stood there awkwardly for a few moments we just chose a table to sit at… but then he told us to sit somewhere else even though the entire place was empty(??). We didn’t get water right away, and we had to grab his attention to take our order(and to get a box for leftovers and to get our bill). At one point I asked what the wifi password was and he just looked up and said«no»(he was playing on his phone). We ordered 1 pound of shrimp and 1 pound of mussels with Amazing Mix, medium spice. We added corn on the cob and 1 sausage, and also got Cajun fries. The fries were decent, could’ve used a bit more of seasoning. Overall the food was alright; my favorite was the corn, and the shrimps were pretty big. The amazing sauce was good too, and the medium was enough spice for me. It came out to be about $ 16/person. It’s a suitable replacement if you’re craving Boiling Crab style food in Berkeley.

The food here is amazing and I can customize it to my likings. I got the pasta and asked them to add in sausages as well as the sweet potato fries(I also customized it by asking them to mix it with the amazing mix sauce. I like it sweet and spicy at the same time)

The place was pretty damn good! The mild sauce was. The bomb little spicy but hey is cajun style! Their mussels on point! The crab was small but tasty! If you compare it to like boiling crab is very simmilar the garlic sauce is way better here! Less packed so save yourself a trip to boiling crab and try this amazing place! GREATRECOMENDATION!

This is more like a 3.5. Girlfriend and I walked by this place while looking for a place to grab lunch and decided to give it a try. Theres a real casual, sporty feel to the place. They tables are set up to give u plenty of space and theres several tvs so you can watch sports or whatever while you chomp down(they were showing a FIFA game when we were there). We got 1 lb shrimp with the combo sauce, 1 lb clams with the escargot sauce, and a basket of sweet potato fries. All the food came out pretty fast, but the flavor was a little underwhelming. The medium is more like really mild and the mild is not spicy. The escargot sauce has really light flavor, I’d just go with lemon + butter + garlic. Wish I could give an extra half star because the waitress was really nice and the price was good.

Even after living in Georgia for 3 years, I still had never had a seafood feast quite this fun, filling, and ridiculously messy. We ate bags full of buttery mussels, fresh crab, spicy shrimp with their heads & tails on, and huge fried oysters. I went through an entire roll of paper towels, trying to maintain some semblance of civility(useless), and sported by plastic crab bib proudly. This is a FUN dining experience, not a serious one! So, come with an immense seafood craving and healthy sense of adventure and it’s hard to be disappointed. The atmosphere is really casual, with tables covered in butcher paper, graffiti art, a deconstructed bike sculpture on the walls, and 2 TVs for the sports & shellfish fans. Plus, 6 beers on tap! And for all the health freaks out there(hello friends!), I was very interested in knowing where the piles of seafood I had just consumed came from, and talked with the owner about where he sources his ingredients. Was super relieved to hear it’s all flown in fresh(not frozen), and the crawfish come from Louisiana of course. There are 4 different sauces to choose from, and all of them are amazing. The escargot butter was especially divine on the mussels — some of the most plump & flavorful I’ve ever had. A great place to spice up your dinner routine, and get down & dirty with some serious seafood.

Is this place a step up from Red Buffalo? Absolutely not. I’ve had lunch and dinner from the Amazing Crab, so I’ll rate them separately: Lunch — 3.5 stars: I tried the Catfish Po’Boy. The sandwich cost about $ 10 and came with a small side salad. The salad itself would have been fine, but it was swimming in a nasty, cloying lemon butter sauce. The sandwich was good. The catfish was only okay, but the slaw, jalapenos, and sauce really elevated the taste of the Po’Boy. I’m not sure if it was worth $ 10 though, and it sucks that the sandwich is only available during lunch hours. Dinner — 2 stars: The biggest problem with dinner here is that you cannot eat alone. I can’t eat a pound of shrimp by myself(ok, I can but I shouldn’t), and when I asked if I could order a half-pound of something, instead of answering the question, the employee suggested that I order an appetizer for my meal. I ordered the barbecue shrimp appetizer as well as a boiled potato and a corn on the cob(which turned out to be half of a corn on the cob). The shrimp was actually very good, and the barbecue sauce complemented it quite well. However, I was still hungry by the end of the meal which was disappointing considering that I paid $ 12 for my meal. Although I’m not a fan of Amazing Crab yet, I think with a few improvements it could be a good restaurant. First, they should offer their lunch sandwiches all day. Secondly, they should just get rid of their salad dressing and replace it with something more standard like ranch or vinaigrette.

I don’t eat sea food very often, but I’ve been to this location many times since they open not long ago and very near to where I live. It’s clean, cozy, because it’s not very crowded most of the time, reason tat people often to go food. It’s not like other sea food restaurant you have to wait for the queue and spend a lot of money on cocktails and services. While in amazing crab u feel no pressure at all and chill. And only one simple purpose here«eat sea food». I always get my usual 1 lb of shrimp plus a corn with classical spicy Cajun sauce. Sometimes I add potatoes. Every experience has been the same with good service and nothing to really complain about. There is this guy name Chris, he works there everyday and very friendly, I couldn’t tell if he is the boss or whosoever but he gave me bear for free one time, which is awesome. Maybe because I go there too often. The only thing I would point out, the consistency of the sauce can be a hit or miss, sometimes too oily, sometimes too salty etc, which is not a big deal. So, 4 stars for food and 1 star for the service. They just open, need time to get in shape. I can tell this seafood place has great potential in this area. Come by and try, you won’t regret =]

Food: To be honest, the food here is pretty average. The food is served similar to other places like this where you order seafood by the pound and they boil it and service it to you with a bunch of spices. Just like those places, they cover the tables with butcher paper and provide bibs and paper towels for you. The difference is they serve it to you in a plastic bowl instead of a bag and they have many more options on the menu if you don’t want to order the by-pound seafood. We ordered the pound of shrimp, cajun fries, and calamari and, like I said, it was average. The shrimp was fresh and juicy, but the sauce was sub-par. I don’t necessarily love the drenching of spices that Boiling Crab uses, but the flavor just wasn’t really there at Amazing Crab. The calamari was fine, but the fries were just normal fries sprinkled with cajun spices. Service: We had two young women serving us and although they were friendly and sweet, it was pretty obvious that they weren’t experienced. In general there was just an air of awkwardness about the service and we watched them mix orders up at a couple other tables. Maybe they were still just getting the hang of things as this place is pretty new. Environment: There is a huge painting of a crab on the wall which is really cool in my opinion. The place kinda has a bar type of feel with TVs playing sports and bar seating, but otherwise pretty standard. It’s clean and organized though but the only real decoration is the huge wall painting.
