Beyond Aero

I stopped in to check out Beyond Aero, as they’ve been in my neighborhood for around a year and I’ve never been in. Andres and Nolan were welcoming, and they readily answered the two questions I had even though they were in the midst of other tasks. Nolan answered one of my questions by putting my bike on the stand and doing some quick diagnostics… way more than I asked for.
In my brief experience, Beyond Aero reminds me of Wheelsmith of Palo Alto in its glory days (that would be the late ‘70s/​early ‘80s). That’s a good thing.
I’ll be back.

I brought some problematic Bont Shoes into the shop which I’d bought somewhere else and I got a lot of attention. The shop is great — worth the visit for the eye candy if nothing else. Boardman, Canyon, EE brakes, and a Dash saddle which is a weightweenie work of art… these aren’t brands you often see.
I’ve not had any work done here so I can’t speak to that.

Simply put, Beyond Aero is Beyond Compare. Best customer service I have experienced in a long time. Professional, knowledgeable; I have found a new home, you should too.

We came here on Saturday during the open hours as noted in their recording — closed with no explanation. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried again on Sunday — same thing, closed during their noted business hours. Very disappointed and will not be coming back.

Major thumbs up to Beyond Aero! I needed a new cassette installed on my wheel and as I’m in SFO from out of town I didn’t have the necessary tools with me to do the job. I decided to head over to Beyond Aero. While Adam, the mechanic, was installing the cassette he noticed something out of whack with my bottom bracket/​crank and asked if I had a few minutes for him to take a look at it. I had been having issues with the BB/​crank ever since getting my bike at the beginning of the season and my local shop had been struggling to solve my issues. After taking everything apart he found 5 issues with the setup and fixed them all. My bike is now riding better than ever.

If you are looking for euro-​pro quality, high end shop, with a high end service, this is as good as it gets.
If you ever raced hard, you know that euro-​pro isn’t just a pose: on the bike, it’s knowing that everything is just right and smooth, the only thing holding you back is the pain creeping up your legs, not the machine. Beyond Aero is where to get the equipment that gets you there, and smile all the way (yes, the prices are also high end. But you get what you pay for).
If Riis and Wiggo bought their TT rigs here, they wouldn’t had thrown them away in rage in front of the Tour’s TV cameras.

Fantastic place. I brought my bike in for a tune up having never heard of the shop before. I wondered how a place gets nothing but five star reviews on Unilocal.After picking up my bike it was clear — they provide seven-​star customer service. I got honest advice here and wasn’t pushed to buy things I didn’t need. As a bonus, they are fairly new and don’t have a back-​log of jobs to do, which means I got my bike back really quickly.

Beyond Aero has perfected the art of customer service. I have been to the shop about 4 – 5 times for a few items (getting my tri bike fitted, minor maintenance on my bike, picking up supplies, having maintenance done on my daughter’s kid bike). What I really love about this shop is that Andres and Susan really make you feel valued — Andres emailed to a few days after my bike fitting to make sure everything felt great. My husband stopped by the shop to pick up a water holder and the shop was out. As soon as the water holders were in stock, Andres emailed to let us know we could pick one up. But the real icing on the cake for me is, after doing the Oakland Triathlon (which had a lot of potholes), I thought I had cracked my carbon frame… I immediately emailed Andres to see when I could stop by… and he responded within minutes telling me to stop by immediately, even though they had just closed! It turned out my frame was okay, but it was amazing to have a local bike shop that will support their customers like this. Oh yeah, and I find the pricing on everything to be more than reasonable!

Andres and Nolan are great guys. I was referred to Beyond Aero by other local bike shops in Berkeley when I wanted to have a third brake lever installed on my aero bars. After thoroughly coaching me on how this would change the way the bike handles and making sure that I would know how to be safe, they did the job no problem and very quickly. I was deeply grateful that my safety was their priority, that they were so serious about it, and that they explained everything in detail for me as I still am in my first year of triathlon and road cycling. I’ve been using the third brake lever for at least a month now and it works very well.
Afterward, I returned to Beyond Aero for a bicycle fit, which was very competitively priced. Andres did an excellent job of carefully observing me on the trainer and listening to my feedback as we made several adjustments. When he saw how I was riding with my Specialized Romin saddle pointed all the way down, he made sure to ask why. After hearing about the pain I suffered from, especially while on aero bars, Andres suggested an ISM Adamo saddle. I participated in the saddle demo program that Beyond Aero offers, and I am so glad that I did. With this program, I was able to demo any of the ISM Adamo saddles for a few days to a week or two, and come back with feedback to then swap out for another. After trying three or four saddles, I eventually chose the ISM Adamo Attack, which I am super happy with. I have absolutely no pain while riding now, anywhere in my body, no matter how long I ride for. I am also way more confident in my bike handling. While the bicycle fit comes with a complementary second meeting for any further adjustments that may need to be made based on how you feel about the initial changes, I haven’t bothered scheduling it because Andres got everything right the first time!
What really struck me about Beyond Aero is that they are not trying to make a quick buck — they are trying to help support you in becoming the most confident triathlete/​cyclist you can be. They do this by carefully listening to you and responding to your needs.
Did I mention they sell Bonk Breakers? (YUM!) I can never resist picking one up before leaving their store!

Fantastic local shop if you need high-​end service, supplies, or parts.
I’ve been watching this store get built up for a while as it sits right on my way home from work. As soon as it opened I was eager to take a look. Andres and the other employees were incredibly friendly, even remembering me by name when I stopped by a second time.
Make no mistake, this is NOT performance bicycle or REI – If you want a Ulock try a different local shop (please not performance…) HOWEVER if you need your racing steed tuned, or want the newest aero gear, this is your place!
Again, the biggest plus is the staff. Knowledgeable and nice is sometimes hard to come by in high-​performance shops. I brought my cyclocross bike over last weekend for a bit of a tune (45 minutes after closing I might add) and they were able to turn it around in under a week for about $ 30 less than was quoted for other shops!
My only critique is that it’s hard to walk out of here with anything less than $ 100, but again, this is catered towards high-​performance (mostly Triathlon+TT) items.

I was super psyched when I saw a new bike shop was opening so close to my place, and I was eager to go and check the place out when they first opened.
After stepping into the place for the first time I saw that this was a business run by someone who is really passionate about cycling and understands how to put together a stylish shop. Andres, the owner, and his wife introduced themselves and I told them how excited I was to come check the place out. We got to talking for a while and I realized that this place was going to quickly become my favorite bike shop. I mentioned how I was interested in some custom length Speedplay pedals and Andres didn’t hesitate to shoot off an email to Speedplay and answer all my questions about the costs and benefits of ordering the custom pedals. I decided to place the order and afterwards he kept me well informed via email of the process and when I could expect to pick up the pedals at the shop.
I’ve since gone back numerous times to pick up some tires, Skratch, and just talk cycling. Currently, I’m testing out some Bont demo shoes and again was really glad to have Andres explain what I could expect from the shoes and whether they would be the right choice for me.
This place is a great shop for any serious cyclist or triathlete, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them for all your cycling needs.

Andres knows his stuff about bikes and how to run a shop. Dropped off my bike here to get it tuned up and back in quiet working order. Got it back looking fresh and clean, riding like it was straight off the show room floor. Super good guys and wish him the best with the shop. Helps that I knew him before the shop opened, but he has a dedicated customer from me now. Highly suggest it if you are looking for anything bike related. Andres will take his time with you and get to know you as a person rather than a credit card holder. Come and stop by and say hi to him and get a beer or coffee at the little shop behind the store. Good things happening in that area.

Love the store, very inviting. Andres knows what he’s doing. Very awesome guy. I dropped my bike off for him to install the Garmin 510 and cage bottle. He nailed it. He followed up later to make sure everything is fine. He takes time to know me, great customer service. From now on, I’ll be going to him :)
Just wish he is closer!
