Nice people to work with. I had them make covers for my couch. The work was just so-so, but the choice of fabric was bad. The fabric that I chose from the selection they showed me is definitely not cat friendly. More professional guidance would have been appreciated here, especially since the work was very pricey. They also made some new cushions for a futon chair. Good work on this but, again, bad choice of material. Would I use them again based on what they did for what they charged? No way.

This faulous business should actually be called«Giocomo Drapery, Upholstery and Custom Furniture». Giocomo is clearly one of the great treasures in the whole Bay Area if you are looking for the most elegant fabrics available to decorate your home, whether for draperies, custom upholstery or their own elegant custom furniture. Fatigued of the coldness of the Design Center, my dreams were met by meeting the fabulously warm and enthusiastic proprietors of Giocomo. I saw fabrics more beautiful than I could have imagined were still being made. The fabrics have been chosen from the very best small mills from around the world. A simple visit to their showroom will be more than enough to convince you that your search for the best has ended. They have reinvented the whole notion of customer service and professionalism. My whole house has been transformed with gorgeous new draperies, upholstery and pillows, all custom and all provided by Giocomo. In these economic times only the very best is worth our time and money. Don’t even hesitate to give them a visit.

I had another great lunch at Vik’s Chaat house on 4th Street last Friday, and decided to take a walk around the hood afterwards. I stumbled upon GIOCOMO, an upholstery and custom furniture shop at 24234th Street. I happened to run into the owner outside, a lovely woman named Nazila, and she invited me in to show me around. The first room featured samples of the most exquisite upholstery fabric I have ever seen– sumptuous velvets and chenilles, hand-embroidered and stencilled silks… Yum! Instead of having all the samples tucked away in books, they were stacked according to color in shelves along the wall, so you could see and feel the gorgeous array of offerings. Then Nazila told me they make custom furniture and pillows as well, taking me to the back workrooms where they make their magic. They’ve been around for over 10 years apparently, but only two years at their present location at the end of 4th street. I’m not a customer yet, but I will be soon! We’re lucky in Berkeley to have such fine offerings in furniture and upholstery fabric. Check it out!
