Juniper Tree Supplies

It’s very worth getting acquainted with this store for your gift giving, or for personal treats, and also for supplies if you’re into making bath salts or lotion or soap or candles (making it yourself lets you eliminate some of the crappy ingredients).
They have a fantastic collection of soaps for sale, both the very fancy decorative kind and also the more simple varieties (goats’ milk soap, or a lemon verbena soap he gets here that smells great and is long lasting that a friend is very fond of). They also sell soap dishes, candles, fragrance oils and soaping supplies.
I had a perfectly fine experience with the service here. If the staff members could be warmer or more enthusiastic in greeting people upon entering the store or when interacting at the cashier, that would put it into 5-​star territory for me and might increase rabid loyalty among customers.
Still, I am happy to try to find reasons to patronize a nifty local business whenever I can. Well worth checking out!

I really like this place. I wasn’t expecting all the great candle, perfume, and soap supplies when I walked by.
They have a lot of supplies for soap making that are inspiring. I know they also offer candle supplies, salts, and perfumed oils.
We went to gather supplies for homemade bath products for gifts, and found everything we needed.

First, this store is really cute. I love all the lil trinkets and fragrances!
However, no one greeted me when I entered the store… I had to say hello and they barely responded when I greeted them. I actually don’t mind when store workers aren’t overly helpful, but they didn’t even ask if I was looking for anything… luckily, they didn’t following me around! (or maybe they did and I didn’t notice?) I walked past about three workers… no one said anything. When an older white lady entered, they said hello, and asked if they could help… I thought that was weird… I’m Asian.
When I went to ring up my things, the cashier didn’t even tell me what my total was… she just stood there and said credit or debit — maybe she was high? May come back in the future… but will not be coming back for a while.

My colleague told me about this shop, because I mentioned to her I had plans to go to the flea market, and get some oils. So I took my 75 year old mother and husband with me. First thing first the lady Anna was very helpful. But the lady dressed in black, black hair and bangs was rude. She followed and watched us, until we left the store. She followed us from one side of the store, and around the store until we paid. And yes we all made purchases $ 32 – 40 each. At first I thought it was me, but today I asked my mom and she felt the same way. I will not return, I don’t know if it was because we were Black. But wait my husband is Asian. And no the quality of the oils are not that good, tome at least.

I had heard of this store a while back finally made there to purchase some Lavender oil and Rose oil. Well, the store was lovely, the clerk was nice. However, the oils were not! My opinion is that the oils were mixed with some kind of oil like almond oil which significantly reduced the fragrances! Needless to say I felt ripped off and I won’t shop here ever again.

They are actually only open from 12−5pm on Sunday. Anyways I like their soaps but they weren’t very clear if it was organic or not only saying it was all natural which as we know in the industry (think Kellogs) means absolutely nothing. I bought the berries and cream which was pretty good. It does have sparkles in it so not sure how biodegradable and safe that is but it looks cool and smells incredible. Their essential oils testers were kind of ratty and used up. They did appear to have an awesome selection of fragrance oils for a fair price though it is concerning that they all only cost $ 6 each since some would cost more than others to make. The lady at the counter was on the phone with a customer and gestured for me to wait before she would ring me up.

I have loved coming to Juniper Tree since I was a kid. Every corner of the store is stocked with fun & delightful goodies, which creates an overall magical atmosphere that nearly overwhelms the senses. They have everything you could possibly need to craft handmade soaps & candles, and beautiful, aromatic soaps that they make in-​store (they make great gifts!). Their ceiling is covered in gorgeous chandeliers — it feels like the Palace of Versaille crammed into one tiny shop.
I could spend hours in this store, marveling at all of their products/​decorations. It’s seriously hard not to buy everything, but I am slowly building my own collection up & taking interior design cues from the store. They have home décor that is perfect if you want to add a touch of French cottage chic or deck out your entire place like Montmartre (a la Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain).
The service is also friendly, patient, and accommodating. The owner came from the back (where she was busy making soap!) to help with a transaction & she was very kind. It has been great doing business here & I love sharing this fun little spot with others!

Things you can’t get other places. That’s nice. The owner is very mean. No other way to put it. There is a mother and her daughter who work there and they are absolutely lovely. But that owner-​I don’t understand why she is so mean, I really do not get it. You can purchase a lot of the same items for cheaper online, without dealing with someone so nasty.

So after reading the reviews I realize maybe it was not just me. is it the fact that my skin tone was darker than hers or the fact she did not want me in your store at all! I came here a few times to be greeted by a lovely mother and daughter duo. They were very nice and helpful. I came back here one day because of them, who actually was not present that day, but excited to buy a few items to make candles with. I asked the actual owner for help in figuring out how to pick candle wax, However she acted as if I had shit on me and was beneath her! her entire demeanor was rude, arrogant and pompous. She acted as if I was a bother and she wanted me out of her store, I quickly left my times right where I found them and left! after reading what clearly appears to be other women of color having the same issue! I clearly see now it was not just me! But no worries, my money is green just like every one else money except my money will never be spent here ever again!!!

I will not patronize this business again!!! The rude and disrespectful behavior exhibited by the employees was unfathomable .
I am a small business owner and I love to buy my supplies locally so when I found this store I was very excited. The first time I went was about a year ago and I was treated horribly. The women that work in the shop acknowledged that I entered the store but never assisted while I was shopping, I had to figure it out on my own… Thank God for GOOGLE. I did find almost everything I was looking for and more!!! I spent over $ 300 that day and gave them a copy of my seller’s permit.
I returned to the store 2 weeks ago and received the same treatment but they were more rude. I’m not sure what the problem was with me but they did assist the woman that came in after me. They showed her around the store and informed her of the different products they offered. I was in the store for an hour and received no assistance or acknowledgement until I got to the register. They woman spoke to me as if I was ignorant and unable to afford the items. I asked about my permit being on file and she gave me the hardest time, she stated it wasn’t there. I pulled it up on the California Board of Equalization and she said that wasn’t good enough she needed to be able to pull it up herself. I was utterly embarrassed because of the way she spoke to me and how she insisted that my permit wasn’t valid. I’ve contacted the BOE and was informed that my permit is valid, I’ve emailed the store a copy.
My question is why have they been so rude to me as a customer? I’m not stealing or buying one or two items, I’m making pretty descent purchases!

Just busted my arsh and left work in the city early only the get there at 5:35 because website says closes at 6:00, to find out they were closed! I really must free my self from this store 100 percent. #unpredictable #loyaycustomer #pissed #loyaLcustomer #DONE

I really didn’t want to write a great review of Juniper Tree because I wanted to keep it my little secret place where I can buy beautiful items like lotions and soaps from all over the world but I think the whole world and the owner should know what a great place this is. A wonderful sales girl is not there on Mondays and Tuesdays but she is great! She knows the stock, she gives great advice and suggestions and she wraps the gifts beautifully. I went there today to buy a gift but also because I needed my «fix» of aromatherapy. I love their handmade scented soaps. I go there at least once a month.

Juniper Tree helped me find «lavendium» oil or something like lavender oil but not. It actually smelled better for my purposes and was serendipitously more economical.
I really just wanted to be like Martha Stewart and personally make soap for my friends. Juniper Tree staff were so helpful and patient (I had to smell every single lavender option on their shelf, then a second time because I forgot how they smelled the first time). I asked so many questions about making homemade soap and then smelled everything again. Even the non lavender oils. (This shop is fully stocked and will make all your soap-​making dreams come true). How annoyed or short they could have been, but in the end I got what I needed and went on my merry way a satisfied customer.

This is my first visit to this store even though I leave near by. Before then, I was worried about the bad customer service review through the Unilocal,however, it was really just needless concern. The owner of this store was really friendly, intimate, and careful about the customer. I just planned to buy some candles for my friends’ housewarming gift, but I also bought body spray perfume since there are lots of fancy scents and the owner did a great job to treat customer willing to buy more!
I strongly recommend this place to buy various soap, bath soap, bath salt, and candles. They also sell all kinds of handmade soap supplies. Every item is all unique and worth to buy. I might go there again near in the future to buy some hand soaps.

Shopping at the store is my favorite little indulgence! I go nearly every weekend and cannot say enough good things about the lovely store, the very nice staff, gorgeous glittery goodies. Even the music they play there is outstanding! I shop for all my girfriend’s birthdays there. They expect it now and know they will always get something they love and a sweet card.
Do yourself a favor and go there, get a divinely scented candle — a lovely little treat.

One of the great pleasures of my life is using Juniper Tree’s soaps and oils. The Rose/​Rose Geranium goat’s milk face soap they make by hand goes on like a cream (taking off all your makeup) and washes off like a soap (squeaky clean without drying) and smells divine. And my skin looks amazing. I have turned so many people on to their face soap and received much gratitude from those friends. Even my male friends love the cucumber version. Also, the homemade body bar soaps cannot be beat. It’s a delicious treat every time I go into the store just to smell all of them, and they always have seasonal specialities, too. Taking a shower is a pure sensual joy for the nose and entire body and I mean pure because these products are super pure and wash off completely leaving you fresh and clean. They also have a huge selection of quality oils that I use in my diffuser at home.
The store loses one star because often when I go, they are out of the Rose/​Rose Geranium Face Soap (I guess it’s really popular). But I’m not complaining too much about that because they make them by hand in batches as needed and I’m very happy to support a small business in my neighborhood.
Also, it appears that Silvio no longer works there as he hasn’t been there the last several times I’ve visited and if that’s true… thank you! I, like others on this page used to dread dealing with him and cringed every time I shopped there. His manner is utterly inappropriate in any context, particularly in customer service. I made the mistake of chatting with him about Brazil when I first met him and after that he was always trying to touch me, hug me and flirt with me when I was clearly not interested. I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Brazil, so I know it’s not a cross-​cultural thing. It’s a boundaries thing.
The young woman with the dark eyes, beautiful beauty spots and curly black hair (sorry I don’t know her name!) that works there is super awesome! Really, she always has great energy and a big smile and excellent customer service. She makes shopping there extra special. Don’t lose her!!!

Love the selection for making balms and fragrances for my skin. Don’t expect the «standard» for each blend — I find that the Egyptian Goddess smells more sweet than most other blends of the popular scent. And I wish they would stock black poppy oil. Otherwise it’s my go-​to place for whipping up a yummy smelling handmade beauty potion.

Here’s the thing.
This is a great store with lots of wonderful scented products and charming tchotchkes.
HOWEVER – the guy who works there is relentless in his flirtations. I swear to you, I once went in there for some oil and he talked at me for THIRTY MINUTES while I just stood there, nodding and waiting for him to ring me up. Not only is it highly unprofessional, irritating, and a waste of my time (jesus, I just want some damn soap, is it too much to ask to get that without having someone try to crawl up my dress?), but it has necessitated an involuntary embargo, when if it weren’t for him I’d probably be dropping quite a bit of money there.
I’m not the only person who has had this experience; my roommate refuses to go in there for the same reason, and I’ve heard the same thing from other women as well. As far as I can tell, he pulls this on every young woman who walks in or even past there.
I think the owner really needs to realize what kind of an effect this particular employee is having on business.

I love Juniper Tree. They have a lovely selection of essential oils, candles, bath salts, soaps, and scrubs. You can also make your own which is in itself a great service to provide for others and the community.
It’s also very pretty in there. If you are in the North Berkeley area, just take a peek and go inside to see what I mean. There are angel and fairy trinkets and items and soft scarves and other random things. I’ve been there a handful of times.
It’s a little pricey for my modest budget, but I would still go every once and a while to get something nice for someone or to spoil myself a little bit.
The people who work at Juniper Tree are friendly, easy-​going, and helpful.

Juniper Tree is simply outstanding! If you like to make soaps, scrubs, candles, bath salts — really anything for your body or face — this is the place to get supplies. If you want to make these things but don’t know how, the people who work here are more than happy to share their knowledge.
The delightful owner Cynthia also make several products that I cannot live without. The whipped goat’s milk facial soap is a gentle and nourishing cleanser AND it doubles a great shave cream. Her rose water night cream is divine. Works wonders on my dry and sensitive skin.
The other half of the store is full of wonderful french soaps, candles, paper products and unique gifts like scarves, robes and jewelry. I love the twinkly lights, the chandeliers and the general vibe. I’ve been shopping here for 11 years and I love this place now just as much as I did the first time I walked in the door.
P. S. This is the best place I’ve seen in the greater Berkeley area for Christmas ornaments.
