Took my wife here for our anniversary cause she was craving Sushi. Food was fantastic and fresh. When we asked our waitress to take a pic and told her it was our anniversary she brought out a complimentary little bottle of Sake! Very good sushi but probably not the best atmosphere if you’re looking for something fancy.

Sushi Ko is one of my go-to delivery sushi spots. Eat24 has a 10% future purchase credit when you order with them, and you can use eat24 coupons to almost negate the $ 2.50 delivery charge. They’re usually pretty fast, and I’ve never had any issues with the freshness of the fish(when in slices). I wish they had the same creamy miso dressing that the other sushi spots sometimes offer, but their ginger carrot is okay. They usually do a good job of including chopsticks, wasabi and soy sauce, as well as napkins. Likes: Oyako don(huge portion and well seasoned), tamago(a little on the small side but not too sweet, which is nice), veggie tempura, california king roll Dislikes: Spicy girl(tuna in the middle is the chopped up mashed style and doesn’t taste very fresh to me), sashimi salad(fish is fresh and reasonable portion for cost, but the salad is pretty basic iceberg mix with the ginger carrot dressing), yosenabe(unless you like huge mussels, and then perhaps do)

This is a really regrettable review for me to write… but I don’t think I’ll ever go back to this place again. I ordered the super dynamite roll. I FOUND A HAIRPACKEDINTHETUNA!!! I knew it wasn’t mine because it wasn’t on the surface but on the inside of my sushi roll. Waitress kindly tried to compensate but I politely refused. Never again will I go back… This place used to be my favorite place to go to): So sad this is how I had to leave it.

The prices are great here! My friend and I come and get bento boxes with beef, rice, salad, sushi, and miso soup all for about ten dollars! And it’s really good too! The service can be iffy at times. The first time we were there, our waitress was this girl who seemed almost terrified of us! The second time the hostess was super serious and answered any questions with very short yes or no, and almost like she was barking an order from the army lol! It didn’t really bother us though. Our waitress last time was very nice and sweet! We definitely are making a habit of stopping by this place for a very good priced dinner after a day of exploration in Berkeley!

Good sushi for a very affordable price. Love the venue, a bit small but ultimately very cozy. The service is excellent especially our waitress Melissa she met all of our needs! Lovely place. Highly recommended.

Their sushi was tasty and they deliver later than most restaurants. However theirs rolls are very small. I ordered 3 rolls and it wasn’t enough to feed 2 people. Order more than you would at other sushi places.

Took 2 hours for delivery, and I ordered sashimi, which does no take that long to make.

Came here for a work lunch on Friday. Even though I only called an hour in advance, they were able to accommodate our table of 7 people. We all pretty much ordered the same thing: lunch bento with various items. I ordered the salmon teriyaki and california roll(2 items) with brown rice instead of white($ 1 extra). It took quite some time for them to bring out my food, because I ordered the brown rice. Be prepared to wait an extra 10 minutes or so, especially if you’re eating with a group of people who wait for everyone’s food to arrive before they start eating. The bentos all come with salad, miso soup, and an orange slice. The salmon teriyaki itself was okay. A little skimpy as far as portion, and the teriyaki sauce far outweighed the salmon. But at least the fish wasn’t dry. The California roll was exactly what I was expecting, so nothing really to say there. Wait staff was extremely friendly and attentive. They kept refilling our drinks and asking if we needed anything throughout the meal. Overall, an enjoyable experience near the heart of downtown Berkeley. I would like to come back here to check out some of their daily lunch specials.

Service has gone down a lot. Seems like they have new waitresses. If you eat here, be sure you’re the right skin color. This place, like so many places here, pander to white people. Even if the restaurant is owned by Asian people and you’re Asian, you will not be treated as well as a white person. What is up with that? The last few times I’ve come here was just terrible. I keep seeing the white folk get served, meanwhile, I’m sitting here with no water and no utensils, and no one coming to take my order. The waitresses keep checking up on the white customers, while no one comes to check on me. The waitress knew she was neglecting me and kept saying«sorry» to me, but then would leave and run off to check on her white customers again! The last time I waited so long for just about everything– to get my water, to give my order, for them to re-do my order because the waitress didn’t tell the sushi guy the right thing, to wait 2x for my food, and then to wait another eternity for my bill– it has left me frustrated and not very eager to come back. And what is up with pandering to the white customers while you completely neglect your ethnic customers? That is just wrong.

I am amazed by the service here. The waitresses are very thoughtful, serving me both lemon water and tea because they feared I couldn’t immediately drink the hot tea and gave me a complimentary wasabi tako because I was disappointed there wasn’t uni due to season. The toro was reasonably fatty, although the salmon could have been more fresh. Really liked the ankimo(monkfish liver). The tobiko(flying fish roe) with quail eggs was savory. Red bean ice cream was good and came in a cute cup with cherry on top. Went as a single diner at the bar. Nice, classy, quiet environment where waitresses were actually attentive and chatted. Many menu options at value prices. Did not have omakase, which would be better.

I used to eat at Sushi Ko years ago, and the food was all around very good! I noticed around 2009 that the quality of the fish started to plummet, so I stopped eating there. Fast forward to last night, when on a whim I decided to try them again, thinking that perhaps something had changed after 6 years and they were still in business. Nope. I ordered a 49’ers roll, a Spicy Girl, tamago nigiri and some edamame. The edamame and tamago were standard, but once again, the quality of the fish was terrible. The raw salmon was chewy and smelled of fish in the bad way, and the spicy tuna wad in the Spicy Girl also tasted fishy and made me gag. I did not finish the Spicy Girl and I tried to power through the 49’ers roll, but halfway through I peeled the rubbery salmon off, leaving me with a not-so-filling avocado roll topped with lemon slices. Unfortunately, what little of the fish I did eat wreaked havoc on my digestive system and I was up late into the night being sick. Sushi Ko is not bargain-priced by any means, so not only are my expectations for decent quality fish not unreasonable, I certainly shouldn’t bank on getting sick from it. I’ve had freshly prepared Safeway sushi meals that tasted better than this, cost far less and did not make me sick. I can’t vouch for the cooked fish or non-raw dishes, as I prefer sushi, and sushi restaurant really only has one job; to make sure that the quality of raw fish is at least decent. Never again, Sushi Ko. I tried.

Flash forward a week after leaving my one star review. I’m walking around Berkeley looking for a sushi place I found on Unilocal that had decent reviews and Unilocal said was open. They were not open. Very annoying. So I see this place across the street and it’s open. I look at the menu and decide to place an order NOT realizing it’s the same place I left a one star review for the week before because of the sub par delivery. I was greeted by the nicest young lady named Melissa. She walked me through some specials took my order for to go and brought me a glass of water and free side of edamame while I waited. Very very sweet girl. I pay and go to Unilocal to see what the reviews for this place were. Low and behold my one star rating is the first one I see and I freak thinking crap! I just want good sushi!!! Plus my picture is on there and I just ordered!!! Boy oh boy was I wrong the first time! This was excellent!!! The service was spectacular! I have decided that it must have been because I ordered delivery before. Some ppl just can’t get delivery right. I’ve since been back 3 times including take out for lunch! Melissa has now remembered my name and writes little thank you notes on my box of edamame!!! This place has totally redeemed itself!!! I just won’t order delivery! Melissa…you are fantastic! I’m now a regular! This place is a great price point with fantastic sushi!

Came here because I was really craving some sashimi. I was quite disappointed at the quality of their fish. Even my boyfriend’s spicy tuna roll tasted very fishy. Nothing was fresh. My boyfriend had the chicken teriyaki and I had a piece. The chicken was very thin with skin on it. The skin seemed to be overwhelming on the thin chicken. The salad was overdressed, but I did like the dressing. The service was okay, and nothing too special.

Good sushi! I went here with a bench of friends for the first time. They referred to it as the budget sushi place since it has good sushi and bento boxes for cheaper prices. One thing I do like is each day of the week they have different lunch specials ranging from $ 8-$ 10. These specials also come with miso soup and salad. Over all I’d say that the sushi doesn’t stand out too much from some of the other pricier places in Berkeley but the prices and quality of the food are definitely good. I will definitely be back for lunch!

This place has been my husband and my go to spot for over 6 years and we love it. We have always had excellent service here, they go out of their way to make us feel special when we come in. They have excellent vegetarian options here which is not true of most of the super popular sushi spots in the area. Its often hard to find creative vegetarian sushi options and while I love avocado rolls they do get boring after awhile. Try the veggie dragon roll– it’s delicious and only $ 7. Their prices are not cheap but it’s reasonable for the area. Also there are no waits and plenty of room to show up with a big party or in our case it’s not too crowded to feel comfortable bringing your kids.

Sushi seems to be one of those things thats impossible to mess up. As in, even when sushi isn’t that good, its still good. This sushi was pretty decent, nothing special. We ordered to go before the warriors game. My friend got a crunchy roll and I got a salmon roll. Mine had a little too much lemon on it but was good. Price was meh. Probably wouldn’t choose this place unless I was in the area and craving sushi — because, well, the area has a lot of other great options I’d likely visit over it. Still, not a bad sushi option.

I was super disappointed when the sushi tasted like the cheap sushi you get at grocery stores. The sushi rice definitely tasted cheap and low quality, and their oyster sauce was unusually very liquidy, which they charge extra for if you want more on the side. Although the entrée was disappointing, the dessert cheered me up. We used a $ 40 for $ 25 deal and we needed a couple more dollars to get to $ 40, so we got the red bean ice cream. They actually served quite a lot for the price! Made me happy. Overall, sushi wasn’t all that great, wouldn’t come back for it, but the dessert made it all better.

I always find it hilarious how I am able to rapidly fish out(pun intended) Chinese-owned Japanese restaurants. Not that it’s bad – Chinese-owned Japanese restaurants tend to have menus with impressive variety and a clean, aesthetic interior; however, they always seem to lack the homemade touch found in Japanese-owned Japanese restaurants. While there are no particularly unique dishes, I do like their rotating lunch specials. There are a few options so you are usually able to find something you like, and you get the satisfaction of having gotten a good deal by choosing the lunch special. Sometimes there’s a sashimi option! While it’s not the freshest sashimi I’ve ever had, the cuts are thick and it’s always way more fancy than typical lunch specials of CA roll, tempura, and boring old teriyakis. Although there can be a wait for your food during busy lunch hours, service is always polite and courteous like at true Japanese restaurants.
