Best breakfast place in town. Consistently. Try the Greek skillet, which is not on the menu.

The good: Both times I have eaten here the wait staff has been exceptionally friendly. The bad: Everything else. Granted, this is an inexpensive Coney style restaurant; however, if that’s what you are looking for there are many better options within a fairly small radius. Both times I have eaten here, I’ve had breakfast. It should have been impossible to mess up. They managed to make the worst breakfast I’ve ever had, twice. Over– medium eggs: fried almost beyond recognition and loaded with grease. Hash browns: burned, swimming in grease, and crunchier than a taco shell. Sausage: ice cold, but at least edible. Toast: they managed to not burn the toast. I cannot believe anyone working in the kitchen would look at what they put on my plate and think to themselves, «Yes, that looks like something I would eat». It’s like they honestly didn’t care. I would also note that the restaurant was less than half full and it did not appear as if the kitchen was struggling to keep up with orders. There is simply no excuse for how bad the food was. If you want a Greek, family style coney then Alex’s down the street is much better. I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but National Coney Island is much better. Keep in mind, I’ve only tried breakfast here. Although, with how bad it was, I will not risk any of my money on lunch.

this place is pretty average but it is my go-to for coney in the area. the chili is very good and they always give you a nice portion of it on their coneys and chili fries. i wouldn’t order anything crazy here, stick to the coney basics. breakfast, coneys, fries, pitas, etc. the gyros are pretty good and the best thing about them is their tzatziki sauce, it’s not like that regular ol’ sauce that every other coney gets from GFS, it’s way better. it’s thick and has a nice consistency with flavor. i always order carry out and when i do the ladies are always very friendly and prompt!

My best friend & i went to eat here around 8pm– 9pm ish on October 8th2015. The server was awsome(thats the only reason why this place is getting 1 stars)(we forgot her name but she was a sweetheart) The food on the other hand was disgusting! My friend ordered spaghetti & it was only soso noodles were over cooked. My food i ordered was fried chicken & mashed potatoes & a salad with just lettuce tomato & lemon juice(from a lemon wedge)(i cant eat salad dressings due to allergies) The fried chicken was deplorably disgusting they had to do it 2xs for me & the 1st time the outside was boiling fryer hot but the inside was raw & frozen(& thats why im probably sick now and been throwing up all night & diarrhea too.) I bit into the raw frozen chicken. & swallowed some of it(the red flag should have been was after the order we got our salads or food came out less than 5 minutes later. Im in culinary school & normally it takes over 20 –25 minutes to fry or brost chicken 1st u put in the big pieces thighs & breasts for 5−10minutes with lid open then u put in legs & wings &then lock seal the lid on the fryer for 10more minutes.) well they redid my food but it was still sub par the fried crust tasted kinda rancid like the oil needed changing & it was almost rock hard the crust i could barely chew it. Im really sorry but i really wanted to give a good review. The only good review was our server shevwas a sweetheart & was really upset that i was giving raw & frozen chicken. I think she yelled at the cooks. They need to fire the cooks & get better ones. Because the ones they have fricken suck & need better training. I will not be back unless u fire the cooks & i will spread the word about how horrible the food & cooks are.

I used to frequent this coney in high school, and hadn’t been since then, but after moving back to the area recently I decided to give it a try. Overall, food and service were great(hence the 3-star rating; waitress was sweet and friendly and my NY dogs with chili were very good), but there is definitely a cleanliness issue(I had to brush some debris off of my seat, and none of the available tables were completely wiped down) because after my food arrived I found myself plagued by a swarm of fruit flies. Constant swatting does not make for a pleasant meal. Left promptly after eating and on the way out overheard the cook talking to who I presume is an owner or manager about the best way to get rid of the flies. The manager or whoever seemed somewhat disinterested in his suggestions, which doesn’t bode well for future meals there. While I did enjoy the food and service, I definitely won’t be back anytime soon unless their fruit-fly/cleanliness issue is resolved.

Over priced for a Coney Island. Wait time for carry outs is usually really long. Staff can be rude at times, and ice machine always looks gross and dirty. Lemon rice soup has no taste and the pita I ordered on the side was tough and chewy as if warmed up in a microwave or something.

Ok, anyone reading my reviews knows that I really do try to be fair. As a resident of Berkley, I want to give this place a good review, but honestly when it comes to value and quality, its a major fail. I’ll start by saying that I was really tired and cranky after an extra long day. The wait staff was teriffic and very nice. First I looked at the menu and saw mozzarella sticks and stuffed jalapeño poppers. I like both of these and was thinking about ordering one or the other. The mozzarella sticks were 4.75 for 6 and the poppers were 5.75 for 6. Ouch! At that price I was expecting them to be house made and not some GFS boxed frozen versions. I mean lets face it, $ 1 per popper is a hefty price to pay for a frozen appetizer dropped in a deep-fryer that I can buy at Costco for $ 5 a box! I asked the waitress, who was a sweetheart, and she said yes they are frozen. I took a pass. Since its a coney, I went with two cheese coneys and chili-cheese fries. I mean how can you F&#$K up a coney? Well, let me tell you… They were served like they were thrown down on the plate by Jackson Pollack with less than small sprinkle of cheese, cold coney sauce and about a quarter cup of mustard on each coney. I can forgive a messy presentation, its a Coney for pete’s sake. But cold?! From experience I am making an assumption that the coney sauce is held and served up per order from warming table or steamer or something. As the food arrived just a couple of minutes after my order it didn’t have time to sit under the warmer and cool off. What this means is that it NOT held to temperature. I sent it back and all they did was microwave the mess so the hot dogs were as hot as lava, the buns were horrible texture and the coney sauce also too hot to eat right away. Again I don’t expect gourmet cuisine here, but for $ 3 for a coney dog I do have some expectations. I don’t know if it was held for more that a few hours but I do know it wasn’t held at 135 degrees or above. In hindsight it very well may have been unsafe but I was famished and took a stupid chance. I won’t do that again. This place was NOT clean and they obviously don’t adhere to proper food safety. For $ 11 not including 20% tip, it was a ridiculously bad experience and a poor value. I mean how can you F&#$K up a coney!!!

Better than average coney island as far as the food goes. Service on the other hand is very slow.

Berkley Coney is average, they recently redid the out side, and cleaned it up a bit, but it’s still just average, the food is average prices are average yea it’s just a average diner, the wait staff is average the omletes are average, your experience will be well you get the picture«average» wish it was more but for me just average. 2 ½ but in my town and you can’t do ½ s on Unilocal so 3 it is.

Well priced with a lot of options. Recently remodeled. I’ve been coming for a long time and the food is usually very good. Had the best fish and chips of my life at this place once. If you’re looking for a decent coney, this is it.

Now let me start off by saying that I am a regular at this Coney Island. now let me tell you secondly it’s because it’s the closest one next to me. The chef’s are good and they will whip up your food with culinary precision look-wise but the taste of certain«Coney Island» staples like Pitas, chili cheese fries and the coney dog itself aren’t up to par with the coneys in Detroit. Other items like the chicken parm, Nachos, stir fry and wing dings are ok but they aren’t going to «knock your socks off». The service is questionable at times but the actual inside of the restaurant looks good and you will feel comfortable(1 of the 2 things that’s important in a dining experience the other being safe). The best way to judge a Coney Island is by… well it’s Coney and their Coneys are ok.

Not great. The place itself looks nice. The waitress was pretty good though not on the ball with refills. The menu was okay. The food was eh. My daughter’s grilled cheese tasted burned which I’m not sure how except that the grill was dirty it was cooked on. I don’t see ever going back.

It’s about average for a coney island restaurant. It’s fast and convenient, and the service is usually pretty good. However, the food isn’t as good as other coney’s in the area.

Perfect little restaurant. Everything you want from a local diner. Excellent(and cheap!) breakfast, good coffee, friendly service. Spent less than $ 12 on a huge breakfast for 2 people. So happy this place is nearby; I will be back week after week.

So here’s the deal. My husband and I would come here all the time. At least once, if not twice a week. The food is really very good. Tonight we went in and sat at the booth at the very end by the kitchen so you can see into the kitchen. Well we ordered and were waiting for our food when I noticed the cooks were not wearing gloves, picking up the hot dogs with bare hands, sticking bare hands into the cheese, then in there pockets, then in the salad. Just so disgusting. I wanted to video tape it because I had such a clear view. needless to say we walked out, told our waitress how unsanitary it is. If germs and cleanliness do not bother you, then go here but if it does I would not eat here. Its sad because we came here all the time but now we will not and I will be spreading the word.

I live about a one minute walk from this place, so I’m a little biased. Best chocolate chip pancakes I’ve ever had in my life. Great mozzarella cheese sticks. Good bacon and hash browns. Their chicken strips are breaded really weird– I’ll never order them again. Terrible cole slaw. They’re open 24 hours, except they close at 3 on Sundays. Overall, it’s a coney island. Pretty standard stuff.

It’s difficult to accurately assess this place, since I’ve never eaten here sober. But it’ll definitely do the trick for anyone looking for late-night grub in the Berkley, Oak Park and Southfield area. They have all the usual Coney staples, and it comes out quick and hot. It also has the following added benefits: — They have their own parking lot, assuming one of the people in your party hasn’t been drinking — It tends to be a lot less crowded than the other suburban downtown Coneys(e.g. Leo’s in Royal Oak), so you can sate your carb/grease cravings more quickly — It’s close to my house Definitely some good memories here.

Was hungry and stopped there on my way home with my hubby. He had jalapenos poppers and a coney. He did say it was very salty(poppers), but his coney was ok. I ordered a gyro. It had way too many white onions in it. The sauce came on the side and it had a crust on top. I demanded a fresh sauce. The carpets were durty. The restrooms were okay(one room toilet) and clean. But not a place for an enjoyable dinner. Seems to attract cheap clientele, bum like off the street. Won’t go back.

We rode our bikes up for a greasy Sunday diner breakfast and had a decent meal. I ordered the corned beef hash. Apparently they serve both the gross canned kind that looks like dog food and the good kind, so you have to be careful what you order. The hashbrowns in my breakfast were perfectly crispy but not over done, but the corned beef wasn’t crispy at all. It seems like they just warmed it up on the grill but didn’t give it time to really cook. Still, it must have been ok because the serving was huge and I ate about ¾ of it. My husband had something covered in sausage gravy that he seemed to enjoy. I think my review would have been more enthusiastic if we had chosen to sit in a booth rather than the counter. Where I was sitting I had a full view of about 20 cans of turkey gravy. Since gravy is just about the easiest thing in the world to make, it left me with an impression that the food isn’t exactly crafted on-site. Still, for breakfast that’s not a major concern. I just wouldn’t have Thanksgiving dinner there.
