Flat Penny Bar and Grill

The service was pretty bad. The app we got buffalo cheese sticks were awesome. wife got fish and chips i got chx Cesar wrap… no croutons they should have them… good place and price point but nothing besides the app jumped out as awesome

The food here was only okay. It was very oily and made me sick. The service was great though, and the food wasn’t really expensive. You definitely get what you pay for.

This only gets a two star review because of the wait staff. They stand around and socialize with each other all the time. It’s super unprofessional. One or the bartenders as a serious attitude. It makes you not want to go there. The food is good however. If the owner could get his staff to be a little ore professional and polite I would come all the time. Not many restaurants in this area so you don’t want to get a bad reputation.

Honestly, I’d give it a «meh» /​10. They mixed up my burger and gave me well done instead of medium-​rare. My 80 year old grandmother, with stomach problems, got the medium-​rare burger instead. The food was kind of mediocre, but the atmosphere was nice and the service was good. There were a couple bugs flying about, and it was kind of annoying, but the booths are aesthetically pleasing.
In short, food was okay at best. Service was pretty good. Atmosphere was inviting. 3/​5, I guess I’d come again, considering it’s near where I work.

I ordered the chicken parmesan sandwich. It was 12 bucks on special and that includes tax. That is outrageous price. It was salty and over fried.

I must say… Meh. This restaurant was great when they first opened but not so much now. I believe they have changed management since.
Food and drinks are over priced for what they are. They always mess up take out orders. Forget tarter sauce… send stuff we didnt order or forget stuff we did order… also notice the food is more stingy on take out then if u dine in. Staff can be pretty unprofessional most of the time and it seems like they go thru waitresses like crazy. One waitress started grinding on some guy at the bar while I was waiting for take out and the funny part was the guy seemed pretty uninterested. Owner had to yell at waitresses to stop texting on their cell phones one time I was there as well.
Went there for dine in recently and was ignored for a good 10 minutes… then if you don’t order your meal right away… forget it… we didn’t order our appetizer till our drinks were finished and we were ready for another! The waitress was a sweetheart but you can tell they are under staffed and she was waiting on everyone in the whole restaurant.
Had the lobster roll and it was good but could have used more mayo and the meat was whole not. chopped or shredded at all so it was hard to eat.
But the Nachos with pulled pork… fries and coleslaw was delicious
The other dishes I love there are the eggplant parm and the flat penny burger!!! Great fish and chips too
Just hit or miss I guess

The worst service I’ve had since I was an adult. We sat at the bar for dinner and the bartender was cold and rude to us the whole night. She was spending time with her regulars and ignored empty glasses repeatedly. The bar wasn’t busy and there where three bartender/​servers behind it. The reason it received a second star was the food was the star it was very good. My tips and onions rings were great. However, the server never asked to see if we were enjoying our meal if she has she would’ve known that my friend needed another beer because her hot wings were too hot and she was burning up. We also played Keno and we had to beg to have our tickets checked to see if we won. And here is why they lost another star in the end I do not like to go to a bar where a bartender is drinking a Mike’s hard lemonade behind the bar that should never happen. Would I ever go back? maybe in a year or two when they had new people working behind the bar. Yes have fun at work tend to your regulars but not the expense of new possible regulars and never drink on the job.

Great veggie burgers! We came for the atmosphere, but did not expect one of the best veggie burgers I have had (the black bean version – my partner had the other veggie burger and loved it). Good fries came with. Nice interior. Wood wood wood – feels good to me! Near the railroad tracks (hence the name). Friendly service. Our friends had fish and enjoyed it. Overall a great find!

Great food, great service. We are starting to become regulars here. You need to try this place. Great seafood! Stop by you will not be disappointed. Drinks are very generous as well.
12/​26/​2013 re-​review: I need to elaborate on this review. I cant say enough about how much I love this place. Maybe I’m a sucker for townie pubs, but I love the people here. Again the food is great, I think I have now tried everything on the menu. I cannot complain one bit for this small pub. The food is always consistent, big thumbs up for the cooking staff, if there is an issue it is promptly fixed. Service can be slow however but some times they are under staffed. Honestly a place this size it dosnt bother me one bit. However the parking is a bit of a pain which has stopped us from eating there a few times.
This is the only place I know of that has a lobster roll year round and its the same year round. gotta stop in and check it out.
Five stars for this little joint, its no gourmet pub, but a warm place that feels like home, a lot of these small places have their regulars and the food starts to slip but you have to admire a place this size that tries every day to be all they can be, new comer or a regular all are treated with the same hospitality.
PS try the Turkey Club. You wont regret it!

We have been to the Flat Penny twice now the first for dinner and the second for drinks, each time has been excellent. We had the seafood platter the first time, it was huge but very tasty, followed by steaks the beef was well cooked and tasted great. The biggest thing I’ve noticed on both occasions was the staff they were all extremely friendly and helpful and most of all very keen to please. The gentleman who I think is the manager is very friendly and recognised us on our second visit which must be difficult when newly opened and lots of people using the restaurant. We will definitely return and hope to make it a regular dinning option.

We hated it when it was the TrainStop and its not really any better as the Flat Penny. The menu is very basic and the quality is just ok. Here’s where I had the problem — my draft beer was just a bit cooler than room temperature and flat. The wait staff is pretty unfriendly and could really learn some manners. Pricey for the offering, HOT enough that I broke a sweat — We wouldn’t go back here even for a drink…

Local watering hole. Food is basic but decent. Friendly staff, they remember returning customers. Good mixed drinks. We’ll go again.

I ordered the 12 oz sirloin with a potato for $ 18 Both were masterfully cooked and quite satisfying. The downside is that is all I got for $ 18. No vegetable, no soup or salad, no bread or popcorn. It was just enough food for me, but I have a medium sized appetite. If they add to the value of their meals, they could easily be the go to destination. As is, it will be a rare trip. I did enjoy the fire they had going.

Had dinner the other night since I had a craving for fish and chips. Decided to try Flat Penny since the last time I was there (previous restaurant) was over 10 years ago. Good thing is that the fish and chip was just as good. The service on the other hand was horrible. We were there early around 5pm and the hostess seated us in the absolute worst table with no window and next to the restroom. We were the ONLY dining room customer! Next our waitress was horrible. It took here forever to come to take our order. The next time we saw her was when she gave us a check. She never checked on us. We probably could have had better service with a monkey. The only saving grace of returning is that the food is still pretty good. Hopefully, we’ll have better service.

Everytime I’ve eaten here, it’s been excellent. The seafood is the freshest in the area, and quite reasonably priced. I’m a Friday fish person and the fish and chips here are excellent. Service is quick and the waitresses are quite friendly, and not too hard on the eyes either! The menu is small, but that just means the items on it are that much better. Definitely worth a try.

Great food, awesome bartenders, friendly hip staff, you’ll always see a friend or make a new one. interesting mix of generations are keeping it eclectic and interesting. owners are always mingling with the crowd.
