Sud’s Pub is a bar and grill tucked away in Maine that actually offers a veggie burger on their menu. You’d probably never know it was there unless you lived nearby or were looking for a bite to eat near Sunday River. My two friends and I stopped in to grab a bite to eat and watch the Chiefs roll over like dogs against the Patriots. The house was packed with Pats fans, eager to tell each other that the AFC West was an awful division. It was interesting to wait quietly for a seat at the local watering hole while my home town team was getting crushed. There wasn’t really anywhere to stand. Someone’s kids were playing the Pac-Man game and not sitting at their table, so we couldn’t sit on the bench near the entrance. It created the following situation: The waiter pushed me in the back as a way of gesturing that I shouldn’t be standing in her path. I guess where I’m from, where the football is «bad,» we just say excuse me. The push was effective — her elbow was strategically placed in my lower back. The irony is that the food was not all that great, and the Broncos beat the Patriots just a week later. The veggie burger was below expectations. I’ve had Quorn, Gardein, and so many more grocery store frozen patties, and that’s all I was expecting from Sud’s. The bun was redeeming though, and I enjoyed the fries. For what it’s worth, the lettuce and tomato were fresh and crisp. Sud’s Pub sort of reminds me that in the US, we accept lower quality food because«we’re in a rush,» or «we’re in a small town,» or «we’re at a bar, not a restaurant.» As someone that enjoys eating, that thought saddens me. It’s a place I’d return to if I were looking for drinks, not food.

Good food, but the service was a bit lacking. Took at least 10 minutes for the bartender, who seemed to be the only person working, to get over to us. Then, it seemed like they disappeared. Glass sat empty for quite awhile. Would have loved another beer. Just could have been a bit better.

Food is OK but service could use improvement. Long a staple local watering hole, the wait staff would lead you to believe sud’s better days are in the past. However, if you can endure the waitress misery, the food is cheap and tasty. Pizza is usually a good choice as is the panini’s. Salad’s are sizable but not fancy. Thirsday nights typically have local music talent which can vary from solid to horrid. With some better ownership and staff this place could return to gem status

Pizza is amazing, tap game strong and the staff is especially welcoming. Great spot after a day of shredding the gnar at Sunday river!!!

This place is the worst… After a nice Saturday in the Sunday River region, my wife and I decided to stop at this local joint, have a beer and a light dinner. We walked down to the pub, sat at the bar and experienced the poorest non attentive service ever. After 10 minutes of watching all the wait staff and bar tender walking past us, my wife asked if we could see a tap list… it was slapped down onto the bar and the unfriendly cuss walked away… We decided to leave… on my way out it dawned on me that this was a Maine version for a REDNECK bar. all locals and mostly yocals… I would urge all to STAYAWAY from this place. It stinks !!

Parking is in the back. Food is good and clean(no junk added, no grease). Went there for lunch with my husband and 2 young kids. The kids shared a fish and chip. The fish was breaded and flavored(not the usual battered fish which was expected but still good). The French fries were not good. They taste like the frozen kind you buy in the grocery store freezer. I had the chicken quesadilla. It was decent and came with nacho chips, salsa and as our cream. My husband had the bison burger, it was good. Nothing special but decent, non-greasy food and the waitress was very nice. No warm welcome when you walk in though… no hostess and I’m still unsure if you are to seat yourself or not. It takes several minutes for the staff to take notice of new customers. The fountain soda tastes like brown water and undrinkable.

Great little place on Main St. in Bethel. Definitely a sports bar feel… and the food was excellent ! I ordered a lobster roll and it was top notch(and I’ve tried many in Maine). We went back a second night to take out a pizza, and they were a little backed up but the pizza was worth the wait. Would definitely recommend if you want something casual.

I can see that this place would be very popular and busy during high season, but at this time of year we were the only people in it. And this was the only game in town other than the Chinese restaurant or pizza. We weren’t sure what we were walking into when we went down the stairs to the basement, but inside there’s a large space with a central island bar that you can sit round. The barman was very friendly and chatty, and he produced our fish & chips in short order. He had explained that the fish wasn’t in fillets like we would be used to, but instead came in nuggets. Nonetheless, they were still fresh and pretty tasty. If I lived here, this would definitely be a good choice of pub to have as my local.

Ok folks. Waitress was extremely nice friendly and talkative. Decent beer selection including a gluten free beer. Here is where things start to diverge. Ordered wings for app. They were ok but we have had meatier. Perhaps that is why they gave us 8 instead of the 6 as indicated on menu. Other than that they were tasty but no carrot or celery sticks on side Now to the food. I ordered the Blarney Burger and wife had Bison Burger. We both ordered medium rare. Mine was on thin side and ended up as medium. Hers was thicker and was medium rare so maybe they need to make the speciality burgers thicker to get medium rare???

When I first entered the restaurant I waited at the entrance for awhile before a waitress told me and my family we could sit where we wanted, even though it was rather crowded and there was only one or two options for seats. We then ordered drinks and appetizers which were both up to par. Shorty after we ordered our entrees, although they were busy the entrees took a little longer than usual. I had ordered the pulled pork sandwich which was described as a heaping pile of pulled pork with barbecue sauce on a beefy bun, unfortunately I would soon find out I was lied to. After our entrees arrived I immediately noticed that the so called«heaping pile» of pulled pork was actually a very small portion. Not only that but the bun was a thin and rather soggy burger bun. And the fries that came with the sandwich were bland and tasted as if they were frozen and heated up. After quickly finishing the sandwich we had to wait ten to twenty minutes for the waitress to come back. Even though we watched her walk past us and serve the table next to us numerous times. So overall not impressed at all by the food or service of this restaurant. Two stars.

Stumbled upon this great little place during a break from Sunday River. Nothing quite like chili, pulled pork and a great local beer after three days of skiing.

We really like this place and try to stop by whenever we are in the area. The wings and pizza are great!!! Great selection of beer too. It’s a fun casual place but may get crowded with skiers in the evening. Definitely worth the wait though.

My wife and I went here per a local rec combined with looking at Unilocal. The place is pretty boring inside but not a bad a setup and still good for kids. The clientele is varied but one thing that really irked me was a patron talking about how he hates Canadians loudly because I was wearing a Montréal Canadians t-shirt. First off, I’m not Canadian, second, it’s a sports team, get over it. So with that behind me, the buffalo burger was highly recommended but not very good. It tasted burned and didn’t have much flavor. My wife had fish and chips and it was much better. I had a few beers which were tasty if a little over priced. I’m not sure I would go back but I won’t be in the area again most likely but there are probably better choices.

Complete shock when we walked into this place. Everything else in town was closed. We walked up and it looked like a hole in the wall bar. Once we walked down we were quite surprised that it was a large room with a good crowd and live music. They had an excellent craft beer menu including switchback(favorite beer ever, from Vermont). The food was also excellent. I had steak tips with onions, peppers and mushrooms. Cooked great and very flavorful. Girlfriend had a burrito that she said was also excellent. We had a very nice waitress. Did I mention that we received this great service at 10pm? Highly recommend for anybody in bethel or at Sunday River.

We had lunch at Sud’s one day when it was too windy to ski. It has a nice cozy atmosphere with picnic tables for the large groups. I had the bison burger and boy was it tasty. I was worried that it might be dry since bison is lean, but it was very moist and delicious and cooked just right at medium rare. The fries that came with it were really good too. I also got to try some of the pizza. It was good too, but if I go back, I will be getting another bison burger!

I loved this hole in the wall! Believe it or not it was too icy to ski so we wandered around town until we stumbled into Suds Pub for lunch. They have a few TVs which is great for the man to watch the game and they had a pretty basic but enough to make us happy menu — along with a wall full of beers on tap! 29 beers on tap to be exact! The bar food was good and the chef salad that I got was very good! When back in the area I will def swing by this place again.

Never heard of Sud’s Pub? Oh, y’know, it’s only: A) One of the most relaxed, casual atmospheres to eat and drink a beer with locals after a day at Sunday River shredding up the mountain without a seriously high-maintenance younger crowd causing drama or buzzing around senselessly. B) THEBEST open mic night in the entire state of Maine. An ex-boyfriend introduced me to Sud’s — an unassuming pub with low-lighting located down a flight of stairs under The Sudbury Inn(suited more for the buttoned-up, fine-dining kinda folk). He was trying to get me to play my guitar and sing in front of more people and thought I might find the courage to do so far away from anyone I might know. While I didn’t work up the courage to play that night, he and Denny Breau — who runs the Open Mic here — did. As did many other extremely gifted musicians from bluegrass bands to singer/songwriters. Truth be told, every time I’ve ever come to Sud’s to play(which I never have, by the way), the entire night is always filled with exceptional performance after exceptional performance. One forgets that they’re at an Open Mic night in Bethel, ME! As far as the food… it’s pretty standard pub fare, but it always seems so wonderfully executed in my opinion. Some of my favorites over the years include: The onion rings — deliciously fried and abundantly flavorful. The nachos el grande — the chips are housemade and smothered in cheese, spicy refried beans(which — last time I knew [because I once had them check the label for me] were lard-free; yay!), and a bounty of fresh veg. The BBQ chicken pizza — hands down the best thing on their menu; the staff is also super accommodating about adding or subtracting certain toppings! The crème brûlée — with it’s perfectly caramelized topping, and creamy interior, there’s no finer or unexpected way to end a meal(or use as an excuse to not go on stage!) at a pub. Oh, and did I mention that Allagash White is only $ 4.75(only making it one of the best deals in the state!) here?! This is my go-to locale when I’m in the area. And, hey, if you’re looking for a place to play your mandolin or the song you just wrote about your ex in a non-intimidating space(or without all the exclusivity and arrogance the bigger cities in the state of Maine have about music), definitely come to Sud’s. Just don’t expect to see me playing! Yet ;)

Stopped by Sud’s while passing through Bethel on the way home after a weekend of camping. The place was cozy, and perfect for a quick meal before getting back on the road. I ordered a salad and received a HUGE dish — enough for me to share with my boyfriend in exchange for some of his fish and chips. The fish had an interesting breading, very flavorful. They had a small stage, I would imagine they cater to local music acts. It probably gets more crowded in the evenings. Our server — I think his name was Eric — was very nice.
