This review is for Maggie– I had been going to the same salon for over 15 years, but got tired of being overcharged and my hairstylist’s ability to do different things (I always got blonde highlights and they were good, but my hair was becoming super damaged and I sometimes wanted a change). I tried two different hairstylists in the area, and unfortunately was disappointed because my hair did not come out anywhere close to how I wanted it. Finally I took a few peoples’ recommendations to go to Maggie Sprague at Symmetry… I went in worried because of how the last few appointments had gone, but Maggie was great! She made me feel hopeful that I could get my hair back to good health, and she was super easy to talk to (Sometimes I just have to maintain awkward conversations with past stylists). My hair did not come out yellow, and it was not toned to a darker color (that is what happened the previous 2 times). The best part is that she only took an hour to do a highlight, Olaplex treatment, blowdry, and even curled my hair. Her price was super reasonable too! I would recommend Maggie to blondes everywhere…

*****COLOR: Amy is a color genius! She is very skilled at highlights/​lowlights and knows which shades will look best with your hair color and skin tone. I first went to Amy several years ago at a different salon, and she was able to completely correct overly-​bleached blonde highlights and transform them to a flattering shade that worked much better with my dark brown hair. Now, she is the only person who I trust with color. I have been extremely happy every time she’s highlighted/​colored my hair, and I highly recommend her!
******KERATIN TREATMENT: Amy’s other specialty is Keratin Treatments. She is very experienced with applying Keratin which is important to get the most out of the treatment. For years, Amy encouraged me to try Keratin to tame my difficult-​to-​manage hair. Last month, I finally decided to follow her advice. Amy applied the treatment, and I am not exaggerating when I say that the result is life-​changing. My long hair is now so smooth and shiny, yet still has body. It now takes a mere five minutes to dry, instead of the usual 20-​minute battle using a hair dryer, round brush and flat iron. (In fact, I don’t even need a flat iron anymore.) Best part is that my hair does not get frizzy… ever. I was outside all weekend in hot, steamy, humid weather and my hair stayed perfectly smooth. If you are thinking about trying Keratin, I definitely recommend going to Amy.

BLONDES EVERYWHERE — MAGGIE SPRAGUE is your one and only when it comes to your hair. I have been going to Maggie for almost five years and I was NEVER disappointed. She works quickly and effortlessly — getting you in and out of salon in record time. However, she never skims on quality of your color or haircut. She’s just that good and she has an amazing skill! I recently relocated to Boston and was really sad to leave Maggie. But if you’re new to DC/​MD/​VA or are looking for a new stylist who will make you look amazing, go visit her. You won’t be disappointed. Book your visit in advance, as she gets booked up pretty quickly.
If I could give her 100 stars, I would!

I have been going to Joanna Manix for about 10 years now. Joanna relocated to Symmetry about two years ago. I highly recommend Joanna. She is very professional and delivers a quality work. Symmetry is a very clean and quiet environment.

Love this salon and my stylist, Maggie Sprague is amazing! Maggie is the best with color, cut and extensions too! She has flexible hours and always makes time for her clients!

My longtime stylist, Maggie (Bond) Sprague, moved to this salon in early 2015! She brought two wonderful stylists with her. I’ve been seeing Maggie Sprague for going on fifteen years! She is an amazing colorist and can always do the perfect cut for your face shape and style. Maggie helped me save my hair when another stylist ruined it while I was in college. Recently she gave me the perfect bangs, even though she knows they will drive me crazy and I will be trying to grow them out in two months. Maggie’s stylist, Allison, also gave me a great blowout. I will be a loyal customer as long as Maggie styles hair.

Jackie Pfeffer is GREAT with curly hair. She has been cutting my hair for 5 years or so and her cuts are always fantastic. I have very curly hair that I keep fairly short (sort of a bob length) and natural. Jackie doesn’t do a dry/​deva cut or anything like that, but the cuts always turn out perfect.

Great place. Welcoming and beautiful atmosphere. Great customer service and Tony Stuart is the best hair stylist around! And Chelsea Nichols for color! They are the nicest people and really know what they’re doing.

Lisa Is a great hair professional. She has an eye for creating color and styles that are very flattering. I go to her for relaxer, color, conditioning treatments, and haircuts and she is one of the best stylists that I have found in this area. I always receive compliments on my hair (from men and women) after leaving the salon. My hair is the happiest and healthiest that it has ever been and I know that it is because of Lisa. She has recommended the right combination of products to use at home to maintain my hair health. What really makes Lisa stand-​out among stylists is her superior customer service skills. She is always on time, always in a good mood, and very thoughtful. Her space is extremely inviting and relaxing; I feel like a million buck after I leave.

This is a review for Rit at Symmetry Salon. Rit is absolutely wonderful! He is knowledgeable, patient, gentle, and talented. He understands hair and people, and he seems to know what I might like even before I do! His suggestions are always spot on, and people frequently compliment my hair thanks to his excellent haircuts and styling. Appointments with Rit are relaxing and pleasant as can be. Five stars for Rit!

Tony Stuart and Chelsea Nichols, both recently of PR@ Partners in Mazza Gallerie, have partnered to open their own studio at this unique salon space. I’ve been having my hair cut by Tony and colored by Chelsea for a number of years now and have been very happy with these consummate professionals: Tony is an expert stylist/​designer who understands how to best cut and style my fine hair and Chelsea is a master of color, adapting it not only for the seasons but also as I have matured. That said, they are both fun too! I would recommend both of them to anyone looking to fall in love with their hair again. :)

This is a review for Richard, working out of Symmetry Salon. Richard restored my faith in hair-​people.
After an especially traumatic professional dye job gone wrong that left my hair fried and frizzy, I was pretty gun-​shy about letting anyone touch it at all. I knew that after the worst of the damage grew out, I needed to find someone to help me manage my hair.
I spent months researching pretty much everyone I could find who did Keratin straightening or other smoothing treatments, but I never felt confident enough to actually make it into a salon until I found Richard. Previously at the Shop Salon in Bethesda, he had nothing but rave reviews on Unilocal.I called, got an immediate response, and set up a consult for the next day. Just as the reviews had all said, he was extremely personable and open about a variety of straightening options, steering me away from ones that he thought were more drastic than I actually wanted, and advising me on other ways to address my hair concerns. I felt completely comfortable scheduling a rusk anti-​curl and a cut for the next day. I didn’t feel rushed during the consult, and liked that he made sure I was absolutely comfortable with what we were going to do before I left.
My actually hair appointment took about 3 hours, but it was a very relaxed and pleasant 3 hours. Richard wasn’t working on multiple clients, just me, so we talked about what he was doing each step of the way and discussed hair care, cut, color, etc for my future reference. He also showed me how to blow-​dry my hair (a skill I had never mastered). I had a question during the appointment that Richard couldn’t answer, but said he would consult the product rep and get back to me, which he did the next day.
The cut I got was awesome (lots of compliments) and my hair was super-​easy to manage for the first 3 weeks. For some reason, the treatment started to wear off early, and I asked Richard about it (since the results were supposed to last longer). He asked me a bunch of questions to try to figure out what was going on, and asked me to come in so he could take a look. After looking at my hair, he said that yes, the treatment was supposed to last longer, and we set up a time for him to re-​apply it. I went back and he fixed my hair up again.
Overall, Richard is super-​open and easy to talk to, gave great consults and feedback, has been very responsive, gave me a great cut based on what I asked for, and overall I’ve had a great experience with him. I would (and will) go back when I need my next cut, and maybe will even try color again.
