This is actually a 0 stars review. I could have gotten better service at McDonald’s drive through. 1– Waitress was rude. 2– Burger’s patty was as thin as McDonald’s $ 1 menu. 3– They didn’t even bring water for half of the table. 4– Veggies were old. 5– Chicken stripes looked like they were picked from leftovers. 6– Waitress did not even show up at the table twice.(no they were not busy) 7– Bugs every where. 8– I had to go to the bathroom immediately after I got home They need to shut this place down. I’ll never go there even if they are the last place on the planet I can get some food.

I decided to go here because it was 24 hours, which is rare in Bethesda. I was a bit skeptical because of the mixed reviews but decided to give it a try. I ordered the tuna melt with american cheese on white toasted bread and it was really really good. The price was $ 7.95 which wasn’t bad IMO. I will defintely be back and the convenience is a plus

I love this place when your starving for comfort food. The waffles, fries and gravy and BLT and more. Go hungry and enjoy the quirkiness of this place.

I maybe missing something here… It is amazing that anyone would like this artificial, as low as it gets quality stuff. With so many great restaurants around eating at this glorified full service McDonald’s…

I have been coming to this diner for 30 years now and I can always count on great down home food, fast and very affordable. After that many years i can safely say that not only is this my go to spot when I am in a hurry or just want a quick great meal with NO agg! Gene, Beth and the gang, you have a great staff and its really nice to know that down home cooking is right here in Bethesda with a great group of folks working there. Love my BLT’s and Tomato soup!!!

This has been the spot for a minute now. Its not the greatest food on this planet but its cheap, open 24⁄7 and they make a decent burger. I don’t venture off more than that.

Having recently moved from Las Vegas into the MD suburbs, it’s hard to find places that are open 24 hours. After adventuring around one night, my friend and I decided to look for a place to eat that was also open late. The interior is pretty dated. The company has been serving the area since 1935, with this location opening in the late 50’s. They have wooden booths with worn-out seat cushions as well as a few bar stools towards the entrance of the diner. It looks a little cramped — I could only imagine how crowded it gets during peak hours. They also have little jukeboxes on the tables of some of the booths, but I’m not even sure if they function properly. The food is alright. It’s your typical diner food that’s really nothing to write home about. The mushroom & swiss burger I had was greasy. It’s the type of burger that you get when you want to cure a hangover or sober up after a night of drinking. The waffle and pancakes were okay. There’s not much to say about them except that they weren’t dry or burnt. They did, however, burn my side of corned beef hash. After telling the waitress, she didn’t offer to get a new one or take it off the bill. She just gave me a box for it, but I had to throw it away because it tasted like char and was basically inedible. Did I really just pay for BURNT food? Bummer. Tastee Diner didn’t really blow me away, but I admit it’s better than any chain diner. If you dine in late at night, expect to see a mix of sketchy people, drunk groups of friends, and stoners who are trying to get their late night grub on. PROs: + Open 24 hours + Crushed ice(I feel like it makes the drinks taste better lol) + Solid diner food that won’t break the bank CONs: — Cash only — Service was lackluster

I’m not updating my star rating, but I’ve since been for breakfast during the week and the food was a bit more so-so than I anticipated. I had coffee, iced tea, and two eggs over easy with rye toast and a side of bacon, while my brunch mate had an omelet with a biscuit. The biscuit was my favorite thing that we ordered– it was delicious. The rest of the breakfast was a bit greasy and lackluster. However, there were a decent amount of people at breakfast(several clearly regulars) and the food is cheap. I think I’d come back if I was craving a «diner breakfast», but I wouldn’t necessarily return just for the breakfast food.

I went in to the Tastee Diner, frankly, because it was open around midnight, looked casual, and had a rockstar parking spot open. I say at the grill side counter and ordered take out, wanting to go home, after some late nights at the office. I ordered a Reuben and minestrone. I was greeted by a staff member who asked if I didn’t prefer red beans and rice. I took it as a well meaning witticism that fell flat. After pleasant enough banter, I liked that they didn’t balk at adding grilled jalapeño in my Reuben. The style is a bit grubby 1940’s train car diner. The staff is quiet and pleasant enough. Clientele at late night seems to be mainly locals and bar goers. I’d hoped this place reminded me of Langers or Canter’s in L.A. I could really use a cup of Matzo ball soup in a friendly, diverse setting. Not quite there. All the diversity on this night was behind the counter. But the Reuben hit the spot.

Awesome old time diner! Fantastic breakfasts, great service, good parking. Just like a diner should be, reasonable prices, great hours, great traditional diner atmosphere. Can’t beat this place for breakfast in Bethesda.

I’ve been curious about Tastee Diner, a MD institution, for a bit. They have 2 other locations, and they offer a pretty extensive menu. Burgers, sandwiches, steak, seafood, and even breakfast all day. I love that this place is 24 hours, and the staff here are super friendly and let you hang out as long as you wish. We tried a variety of dishes, such as: Mozzarella Cheese Sticks(with a nice generous bowl of marinara sauce, these were pretty pretty cheesy); Corned Beef Hash(extra crispy and had a nice crust — yum!); Country Fried Steak(this was actually pretty tasty, and no need for the gravy!); Hamburger Royal(grilled hamburger topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, and pickles; this was okay); a Classic Reuben Sandwich(thinly-sliced corned beef on a grilled rye with sauerkraut dressing and melted Swiss cheese; I wasn’t a fan of the corned beef, but I did like the grilled rye with the cheese and the tangy dressing); a ¼ fried chicken(this was not fresh and was actually pretty dry and chewy; I think it could have had some potential if it was fresh off the fryer); a side of homefried potatoes(cubed potatoes, a little on the mushy side); corn(okay); mashed potatoes & gravy(okay); hushpuppies(pretty good, but would love to see these hot out of the fryer!); and, pickled beets. We also tried their hot chocolate, and this was actually pretty yummy! Creamy and topped with a dollop of whipped cream, this was a nice little way to warm up on a cold, rainy day. Our server was super sweet, extremely attentive, and our glasses of water was never dry. I’d probably stick to their Country Fried Steak and their grilled cheese sandwiches: D +Country Fried Steak +Grilled Cheese sandwiches +hushpuppies(request for them to be fresh) +Hot Chocolate +friendly service: D +1-hour metered parking along Woodmont

If you are planning to drive to the Tastee Diner may I recommend filling your tank and heading slightly north to New Jersey. You could literally go into any diner in New Jersey and it would be better than this place. This is not hyperbole, I promise you, you could walk into a diner in Camden, New Jersey at 4AM on Christmas Eve and experience better service and better food. This, by the way is from someone who considers New Jersey a place to park when you go to the beach so it’s not like I’m a Jersey cheerleader. My point is this, just because it’s one of the few places open late doesn’t mean it’s OK for it to suck. Stop going, you’ll be surprised how quickly they get their act together or they close, either way you win.

Total greasy spoon. Everything is cheap and cheaply made. That doesn’t mean it isn’t delicious if you’re desperate(re: inebriated). I was stuck in Bethesda with a time to burn. I was stuck in the rain and freezing. Though this place would usually feel like purgatory, it was my salvation on this cold wet night. Corned beef hash out of a can and tossed on a griddle. Add two runny eggs and plenty of hot sauce and mop it up with white bread. Old school. If you’re stranded and you need no frills fatty calories. This place will look like a chrome plated gate to heaven

Bare bones diner, nothing fancy about it. This area has a huge lack of good diners. Tastee Diner makes up for that with it’s straight-forward simple comfort food cooked perfectly. We stopped in last night with the 2 year old and had a great meal. The hubs had the crab cake and onion rings, the little one had chocolate chip pancakes, and I had a turkey club. Everything was totally on point and delicious! My turkey club in particular was very well done. The turkey was flavorful and moist and the bacon was plentiful and crisp. We’ll definitely be back!

Charming spot with a diverse menu and speedy service. The prices are freakishly economical, which was part of the reason I chose to go here in the first place. Plus, I just love diner food. I had the Chocolate Chip Pancakes, which were excellent! Hot, slightly crispy at the edges, and fluffy inside with plenty of chocolate chips. The side of bacon was flavorful and crispy, too. This place definitely has character, and I love that. I was impressed by how fast the kitchen works, and how broad the menu is. Looking forward to going back sometime!

WOW what a great find in Bethesda– I am sure the locals eat here at different times but I just stumbled there while hanging out with my nephew. We arrived way to early for work and we were both looking for a breakfast spot. Nothing was open at 6:15a accept coffee shops. Dave greets us and made us feel welcome– We order and before we could finish a conversation, our FOOD was ready. Everything tasted great. We could tell it was about to get busy. The cook mentioned he needed to eat before the crowd. Our tummies are full and now it time to start our day. I can’t say i would eat there daily, however it was a great find for once in a while. Totally recommend this for a quick morning bit!

Great experience this morning. I love eating breakfast at diners. I arrived way too early for my grandson’s appointment at the National Military Medical Center and we were both hungry. We were greeted and seated promptly, and our waiter kept calling me young man(when I think we were about the same age, 50’s), ego booster. He took our order promptly and within minutes, first my coffee and then our breakfast. Leland ate from the kid’s menu and had a pancake with an egg and a slice of bacon with milk. I had 2 eggs and bacon(3 slices), with rye toastand added a side of grits. As you can see in the picture, Leland really enjoyed his pancake… but he also scarfed down the scrambled egg and crispy bacon. One of my fried eggs was broken and before I could say anything our waiter said that he would get me a new one if I wanted. I looked at the egg and noted that it broke onto the plate and not on the griddle top as it was still runny the way I love my eggs, so I declined a new one. The grits were perfect, soft and creamy with the right amount of seasoning. I was very impressed with cleanliness; the bathroom was immaculate. I noted attention to detail(you know like no build up of dirt in the corners). I think one of the things I liked the most was that the diner has the appearance of an old railroad dining car crossed with Mel’s Diner counter and stools. Right in the middle of modern DC suburb. This just adds to the ambiance. If I’m down here again I would definitely eat here again!!!

Have you ever walked into a place just knowing there will be hair in your food? Welcome to Tastee’s. All the red flags weren’t enough to keep me away :/ REASONFORGOING: Country fried steak n’ gravy+mashed potatoes(my all time fave). Only place in Bethesda with my craving on the menu. PRICES: Inexpensive. ATMOSPHERE: Outdated and unsanitary. Small and cramped inside. The diner’s location is easy to recognize. Plenty street parking available to pop in and dine or pick up an order as I did. SERVICE: Barely existent. Most diners offer mediocre food, but live off of employee/customer interaction giving that ‘hometown’ vibe. Yes, they took the order and had it prepared when I arrived, but the entire staff looked unhappy and barely interacted with me or any of the customers — really impersonal. To add on, no one working in the kitchen wore anything to protect hair or sweat from getting into the food. The woman serving my pickup was coughing into her arm between serving my precooked Mac n’ Cheese and Potatoes out of the buffet style setup in the kitchen. The gentleman at the register was also very unfriendly — he was the first and last point of contact, so it was especially disappointing. Service was quick, though, since everything was precooked. FOOD: Not bad. Tough to eat after seeing where it’d come from, but not bad. I did find something in the Mac n’ Cheese. I’m sure any hair or other surprises in the Steak or Mashed Potatoes were strategically hidden in the Brown Gravy served on top of both that day. They offer the White Gravy on weekends. OVERALL: I actually felt ashamed I even ate the food after seeing where it’d come from. I love diners, but I don’t plan on returning to this one.
