I just stayed for the first time with my wife and it was one of the nicest vacation spots I’ve been to. I have never been a huge fan of bed and breakfasts but this one is phenomenal. The owners are so nice and welcoming and they made us feel right at home. There were lots of nice touches to help us enjoy the area, like a binder full of menus for local restaurants, recommendations if you ask, maps of trails through the property on a lanyard to bring with us, and beach towels for the pool. The breakfasts for the 3 mornings we stayed were great: delicious coffee(and I’m pretty particular) and a great selection of fruit, muffins, and cheese to compliment the meal of the day. There were also delicious cookies out throughout the day. The dining room has smaller tables if you want to eat by yourself or a friend and bigger tables if you’re feeling social. Everyone we spent any time talking with was so nice, including the owners. We stayed in the Cottage, a nice private one-bedroom loft behind the main inn. It was just the right size for a nice home-away-from-home with a mini-fridge, microwave, and 2 small TVs. There wasn’t cable, but they have a great selection of DVDs and books that are free to borrow. It was just what we needed. We’ll definitely be back!

Just stayed there this past weekend(Sept. 21 – 23) with my partner and our good friends… what a great weekend we had! This was our first trip to the Inn, but our friends had been previously and raved about it. Now we know why! We had a wonderful weekend. Rented the king deck room and loved it — it was super clean, very spacious and just the right amount of privacy. Having the deck made it easy to have cocktails on the porch at night! We loved the outdoor hottub, too. The grounds are beautiful, do yourself a favor and enjoy an hour in the woods! The Inn had a fair amount of guests, and on Saturday night had a live concert, which made for a fun way to spend the evening and hang with the other guests. I can’t say enough GREAT things about Jenny & Gia — they were, hands down, the most generous, kind-hearted and welcoming hostesses! They helped us at every turn(restaurant suggestions, last minute candles, Jenny even rounded up an ice bucket for our wine during the concert!), and made sure that we enjoyed ourselves as much as possible… which we did! If you find yourself at the Inn, enjoy the time with your love, the setting, the privacy, and the good company — you won’t be disappointed!

I cannot say enough about Grace and her small staff to adequately describe how terrific they made our wedding trip. We brought 15+ guests with us(some straight which they did not bat an eye over) to the Inn for our wedding. We stayed several nights and rented out not only the entire farm house(more on that later) but several rooms in the main Inn, the cottage and one of the private entry rooms on the rear of the house. Wi-fi only in the main house downstairs, no phones in the rooms, lots of parking, lots of seclusion, lots of wildlife, great common areas and even though we didn’t use it a private hot tub indoors. The rooms as always were clean and even though the TV reception there is non-existant well appointed for an inn of 150+ years. The dining area where you have breakfast is large and open and sunny and the bird feeders they fill every morning just outside the big windows there are enough to hold your attention and much conversation over for hours. Breakfast each morning is different and served at your leisure. As far as B&B breakfasts go it’s one of our top 5(we stay at a LOT of B&Bs). She had Cabot cheese one morning sliced and I think we ate the entire block it was so good. OJ, an assortment of tea, nut and banana cakes, granola, yogurt — the menu changed each morning but it was always good. Several friends took walks along the well marked paths and we saw wild turkeys, many birds and tracks of moose, deer and raccoon. One friend saw a porcupine in a tree but we left it well alone. The farmhouse was where we all gathered each night of our stay. The porch was filled with friends and laughter and Grace gave us extra insect repellent candles and coffee and chairs. If you come with a group I highly recommend the farmhouse because you can all gather together(we had smokers among us who loved being able to step outside and sit on the porch and smoke) and we even cooked dinner one night in the full kitchen. It’s far enough away from the main house to be private and yet close enough you can walk down for breakfast in the mornings. A firepit down there would have been ideal but we had a great time without the fire hazard! Our wedding was the reason we were all there and Grace was MORE than helpful in getting the caterer in and set up, receiving packages we had sent up prior and making sure we had everything we needed including extra chairs outside. We had thought it would be too cold and we’d have the ceremony inside. But that morning we woke to sunshine and 60 degrees! So we quickly moved everything including a boom box for the music outdoors. There are only so many ways you can say, «Wow! This is the best place for a wedding and the best place in New Hampshire for gay couples.» So I’ll stop here and say… if you are planning a get away or your wedding soon, talk to Grace before you do anything. Or drop me a line… I’ll be happy to fill you on on the details.

My partner and I just spent one of the best weekends ever together. Highlands Inn is a beautiful old house that has been well maintained with gorgeous wood floors and exposed interior beams. The antique wood furniture is beyond beautiful. The owner, Grace, is the most gracious hostess and has anticipated every need and desire of her female clientele. The live music Saturday night was fun. Be sure to ask Grace for coupons to local restaurants. We met some amazing guests there, who I am sure we will stay in touch with. I’ve stayed at many GBLT B&Bs, but this one by far out ranks any experience I’ve had before.

My fiancée and I spent 3 nights there for a romantic Valentine’s Day weekend. It was very cute and the staff are amazing and go out of their way to be helpful! Grace, the owner, is incredibly helpful. She has an entire wall of things to do in the area, books full of restaurant menus(with coupons!) and local happenings. The indoor hot tub was a lot of fun, since it’s by reservation and each group or couple takes turns at being in there alone. We got a room with a spa(two person jacuzzi tub) and it was incredible. The rooms were very comfortable and breakfast every morning was great. We were hoping for more interaction with the other guests, but that didn’t really happen. Perhaps it was just that weekend.

I have stayed at this lesbian Inn several times over the years. The Inn is made up of a main house with several guest rooms, main dining area, sitting area with cozy fireplace and there is an indoor hottub. In addition, there is a farmhouse with 5 rooms and shared kitchen and cottage. One year a group of us rented the Farmhouse out for New Year’s eve. They had a package that included dinner and DJ dancing. If you have delusions of gradeur here you will be sorely disappointed. This place is cozy and quaint. It’s not a 4 –5 star Inn or Spa. The food is ok, the full country breakfast in the morning was a lot better than their special dinner for New Year’s was. The DJ dancing was, shall we say, kind of weird. We were a pretty fun-loving group so we were up and dancing while most of the other clientele were sitting there watching us. In a nutshell, we had a good time hanging out with each other, but I’m not sure I’d go there again for this sort of event. I’ve never been there in the summer but I understand that they have women’s concerts there all summer long. They also have an outdoor pool for the summer. Winter sports are the highlight here and you can go snowshoeing right outside the door. It’s also a quick ride to Bretton Woods for some great skiing.
