Top notch service and the entire staff at the unfortunate newly closed Beverly Hills location was always«ON» and aiming to please. From the always friendly warm smiling face of Lisa as we entered the charming glass door entrance, to always being acknowledged and remembered by great servers, like Brenda, Robert, and Rich, just to name a few, we always and repeat, ALWAYS were treated like we were big Hollywood stars. My new husband now, Steven introduced me to this wonderful place way back when we were merely just dating. As time went on, we continued to celebrate and dine here as we grew together as a couple and also as producers working together in the Hollywood area. We spent many of our happiest times and accomplishments dining at Kate Mantilini in Beverly Hills; we will deeply miss it no longer being in the heart of a busy town where all«the meeting of the creative minds» would congregate, becoming one at this magnificent establishment. This very special location of Kate’s will be deeply missed by us, our family and friends and so many others who work in the industry that also must have so many fond memories of this amazing restaurant. Bravo to the exceptional management, the outstanding staff and for the 5-star food service all across the board! We will miss you forever Kate’s but plan on some day soon visiting your other location in Woodland Hills! Cheers to a wonderful venue and for cherished good times! *CLOSED* I went there 2 days before this location closed down. The service was just okay and the food here seemed a bit overpriced. I had the calamari app. and it was about $ 10 and also a turkey and ham sandwich on regular white bread along with a side of fries for about $ 17. yeah. pricey! Nothing special. I would probably not come here if I did not have a free groupon.

The original Kate Mantilini is closing forever in just a few days. Head over soon if you need to bid farewell! I so wanted to try their chicken pot pie, but alas it was the wrong day. Instead I went with the FISHANDCHIPS and my friend chose one of her favorites, the KATE’S SPECIALMEATLOAF. My dish came with two big hunks of halibut. There wasn’t much of a crispy exterior, but the fish was good as were the battered fries. The meatloaf was juicy! It’s such an interesting space… kind of sleek, but yet there’s a long row of counter seats. The menu also offers a little of everything, but is more comfort food stables than fancy fare. The service — I braced myself after reading the complaints — was great. No rushing us to leave even as we sat with our cocktails three hours later.

I have only been here for happy hour. Each item on the menu is either five dollars or six dollars. They have wonderful sliders and really good martinis during the happy hour time. It’s really a great place to come, meet a friend and then maybe hit the town afterwords! Your best bet is probably the ribs. However, I do not eat red meat so I have the turkey burger sliders usually. The fried calamari is also good. Wonderful place and pretty good deal for what you get.

Kate Mantilini’s Beverly Hill is closing in June it has been announced. Beyond overpriced, with consistantly terrible food and servers with attituyude, after losing expense account clients ICM to a Century City move, I predicted the end of this miserable attempt at a hip hangout. As a neighbor of this restaurant, I always hoped for the best and was always disappointed. I therefore am suspicious of some of the four star reviews offered here. For a dark and dismal diner that could charge $ 9.50 for onion rings(when high end restaurants charge $ 5 or $ 6) the management proved to be unethical and stupid when they lost their bread and butter expense account customers. That menu should have been adjusted downward for these perilous times. Goodbye Kate and Good Riddance.

I’ll be honest, I came here for one reason, and one reason only: the memorable scene from Heat, where Neil McCauley and Vincent Hanna stopped to have coffee and finally confront each other, face to face. If you’re a fan of that amazing movie, you owe it to yourself to come here at least once. When I walked into the restaurant, the lady who greeted me at the counter happened to be no one other than Lisa Glucksman, who is prominently named and featured in «Return to the Scene of the Crime»(2005 mini-documentary detailing pivotal locations where Heat was filmed). She was quite the bubbly and charming hostess, and was more than happen to happy to point out the iconic blown-up photograph above the restaurant entrance(of Robert De Niro and Al Pacino staring each other down across the table). Anyway, onto the more pedestrian part of the review … I ordered the fish and chips. They were rather pricey at $ 25, but the food was pretty good. The staff of the restaurant provided decent service. The restroom was luxuriously decorated and maintained. I’d probably rank it somewhere amongst the top 3 nicest restaurant restrooms I’ve ever been in. Parking appears to be strictly valet-only.

High ceilings with hanging portraits, industrial-chic décor and a delectable menu and bar to boast. Oh and great service. That’s what I call a solid restaurant. I like the private booths by the window overlooking the Wilshire Boulevard traffic, especially just after sunset. Came here with a big group one evening and they sat us without difficulty. I had the savory cappelini and finished with the sweet original candy bar ice cream pie. All of it was delish. Our table ordered dishes like the fire grilled burger and seafood linguini among others and everyone said their food was great. Our waiter took good care of us and made sure we got everything we needed. Apparently this place is famous for many reasons and that’s cool too. I hear they make a nice martini. It’s a good spot for a drink in the evenings and a bite while you’re at it. It’s a casual but chic place to enjoy for just about any occasion. Rather than going to a place like Stinking Rose, Kate Mantilini is a much better and stylish alternative. Come try it at least once.

Dessert Dessert Dessert! I haven’t had any of the entrees but came in here a while back for an after dinner treat with family. The apple pie with cinnamon ice cream is amazing. They have a surprising craft beer selection, lots of Stone brews and Green Flashes west coast IPA along with a few weissbiers. However, they are only bottled; nothing on draft. With the location being Beverly Hills, I expect it to be more of a wine crowd so I understand them not putting in taps the demand might not be so high. Excited to come back and actually try a meal here. I believe there was a scene shot here from Michael Mann’s Heat, if memory serves.

Went for Happy Hour/light dinner before a movie screening at the Writer’s Guild which is just down the street. It’s a fine place for HH, with a few caveats. I had to call to confirm that the Beverly Hills location of Kate Mantilini had a Happy Hour, because they don’t advertise it on their website. Probably a good reason for that, because their bar area is super tiny. And that’s a shame, because they have a really interesting HH menu and the food is actually quite good. Again, the bar area is tiny so if you want a seat, get there early. I believe wine and beer specials are $ 5 a glass and when I was there the«white» on special was a Pinot Grigio(score!) that was very nice. Of COURSE we got the mac n cheese with extra sharp cheddar and it was outstanding. Also absolutely loved the deviled eggs — three different kinds and each one more interesting and flavorful than the one before. These were my two favorite dishes. We also got the«inside out» chicken wontons, which were interesting — not bad, just probably not something I’d order again. But OK. Service was friendly and helpful. But again, this place isn’t really set up for a busy HH. The bartender is alone behind the bar(there isn’t much room, remember?) and she was trying to serve food and drinks to the bar patrons and also fill orders for the wait staff. And there is no dedicated area for the wait staff to call in bar orders so they lean over customers sitting at the bar. Not solid. But here’s why this place only got three stars despite some really good food and prices — I was actually given silverware rolled inside a filthy dirty napkin. Just gross. And when I brought it to the attention of someone working there(not the bartender), he said, «Oops…», laughed and brought me more silverware. No apology. Also, when we sat down at the bar there were dirty plates and used glassware at our seats… the bartender quickly picked up the dishes and glasses, but didn’t make any attempt to wipe down or clean the bar. I smelled a strong odor of old ketchup coming from the bar top. Not impressive. So — this has great potential to be a HH star. But they need more help and more space in the bar area. With a few changes, this would be a real HH contender.

I’ve been coming here intermittently for over 20 years. No, God, it’s more than that as I sometimes used to come at the end of high school after I got my license, back in the days you could pop over to West Hollywood from Pacific Palisades without blocking out hours for the inland voyage. So it’s a sentimental place for me, apart from the fact that my parents met in 9107 Wilshire next door when she was an office manager working her way through law school and Dad was one of two in a small law firm. It’s close to the Academy, so it’s a heavy industry crowd both at breakfast and lunch(Kate Mantilini was one of the early«power breakfasts» in LA). KM remains a good choice if you’re going to either of the two Laemmle theaters nearby and the valet is just 5 bucks. You can often find street parking at night on side streets. And one great thing about this part of town vs Brentwood, Palisades, and North of Montana Santa Monica is that you can actually get a real meal late at night. So it has a slight NYC vibe which obviously appeals to me. A childhood classmate and friend lives a few blocks away, so we went this past Sunday. We had a very nice and not young server(early 60s) and it was good but it’s really expensive for what it is, I think. The split pea with ham hock is a signature dish and I have to say it was subpar at best. The bread is warm, fluffy and addictive with that sweet, whipped butter they bring you as soon as you order. The cocktails are an OUTRAGE: almost no booze in these puny glasses with this cutesy huge, cylindrical single ice cube. My cucumber gin cocktail was delicious, to be sure, but it was three goddamn sips! I switched to a 12/glass Malbec that was just fine after the initial drink. They have terrific sides of vegetables and now ofter a platter for 17.50 with four of them. This is a good option, I think, and if you’re with someone and get an entrée salad or burger or steak, you probably would come out ahead ordering that way. Of course, this is the restaurant with the«coffee scene» in Heat, perhaps my favorite 5 minutes in any movie from the 1990s, at least any drama. I’ve memorized it, quoted it, replayed it in my mind countless times. Then Mad Men happened and it ceased to be the«Heat» restaurant exclusively. Now they’ve put some other stuff high up and it looks better than it did during the Mad Men craze I still like this place but 9 for a salad(small), 9 for soup(regular size, not the tiny cup), cocktail for 13(which was like 1⁄6th of a cocktail, 12 for glass of wine, 40 before tip for a so-so meal but pleasant experience. I should have said something about the bad soup but I was with an old friend and didn’t want to make a fuss as her cat has been very ill. 3STARS is for the cocktail annoyance. But brunch is excellent still and there are a lot of good things on the menu. I just think it’s overpriced and my friend had the same reaction when first perusing the menu.

We came here the other night before going to a play at the new performing arts center. It was Sunday evening, a little before 6pm. It was relatively busy, but we were still able to get a booth. The first thing I noticed was that my menu was greasy. Yuck. I had to go wash my hands when I was done with it. We got several small items instead of a meal. I got a large lentil barley soup, which wasn’t all that large(smaller than a small soup at Jerry’s deli, as a comparison), especially for the $ 9 price tag. My husband got a shrimp cocktail, along with the ribs appetizer. We split a caesar salad. The ribs were excellent. The soup was good. The salad was just okay. I think he enjoyed his shrimp. We had a group, and the entire meal was worth what we paid for the groupon, but not for what the full price would have been. Many of the other entrees looked good. I work nearby, so we will probably return.

we came here to try the«best chicken pot pie in LA» um not so much. Probably one of the worst I’ve had. The inside was very watery and lacked flavor. I like to make my own chicken stock and theres was completely flour based with little flavor. The top crust was not yummy pie crust but more like a croissant. Its didnt have that yummy crunch, but was instead very doughy. The way the dish was prepared was nothing remarkable and theres no reason for it to only be available on weekends other than to try and give it some undeserving hype. I assure you it is NOT the best chicken pot pie in LA, not even close. We also had the pear and endive salad which wasnt bad but a little overwhelming with all the blue cheese, and I like blue cheese. It needed more pears. Over all the prices are way over the top for the lackluster food. Being in LA if I am going to pay $ 20 for a dish I will go to a place like Gjelina where I get my moneys worth and am wowed.

Wow this place is expensive for nothing really special, well at least for what i’ve ordered so far. From my friends who paid $ 3 per ½ deviled egg, they definitely had a rather wonderful life changing experience and would be willing to pay that much again(it’s actually $ 9 for the order and you get 3 halves). So I guess it depends on what you order. Service however is SPECTACULAR. They have really good service. and I mean REALLYGOOD. Our server was great with our large loud group of friends that were enjoying some down time after an event. Even though most of us didn’t really order a ton of food, they treated us as if we spent hundreds of dollars there. I got a crispy potato, totally expecting something else, and basically got a basic baked potato that had been smashed and broiled off. Little bit of sour cream and some pepper put on top and it was 7BUCKS. I was expecting a bit more, especially based on the description and seeing how expensive it was. I did get a chance to get their chocolate pecan pie. Now that was worth the money. Parking is rough, but they do have valet for the restaurant in the garage for the building. The restaurant is on the ground floor typical looking office high rise building on Wilshire, so you might miss it, especially if you are going during the day. At least at night, they have their red lettered sign that you can see from the street.

This place is a little closer to a 3.5. Our meal: short ribs served with mashed potatoes and vegetables and 2 crab cakes with fries and cole slaw. 1 bottle of sparkling water and 2 glasses of wine. The price $ 98.00 The verdict: So so… The price was not an indication of the quality of the food. Our crab cakes weren’t lump and were mostly breading also the crab didn’t taste very fresh and the fries were cold. The short ribs tasted good, but the mashed potatoes and vegetables were bland. Thankfully I had a groupon otherwise I wouldn’t have gone and even now I have no interest in going again. Reviews from Unilocal said this place wasn’t anything worth raving about… Thanks Unilocal for being accurate as always.

1 Star for cute atmosphere 1 star for the mixed drink and 1 star for them accidentally upgrading me. –1 Star for UN tentativeness staff –1 Star for MEH food I was excited to try this place… maybe I came on the wrong day or something… but Service was OK,(I saw everybody around me with bread even the people that came after me, and I had to ask for bread cause I got sooo hungry waiting for 30 mins.) Keep in mind, it was NOTHING close to a full house. They had asked me, oh you didn’t get any? NO, I didn’t. With that, I think their Mojito was super yummy everything else MEH. I got the Salmon Benedict… I asked for one, they messed up and gave me an upgrade for 2 great! It looked tasty, the Salmon OMG, possibly the most fishy Salmon I’ve ever tasted in my life Boyfriend got the Chicken, that was voted LA Best, and it was pretty good… But nothing to dream about. Very adorable atmosphere, drink was great, service was really UN tentativeness and food was mediocre. Probably won’t be coming back anytime soon.

Still a meh place for me to eat but they’ve shrank their menu options and eliminated a bunch of options! Well, their menu was ridiculously varied anyways, but did they have to get rid of the portobello mushroom sandwich? It was my favorite thing :(They also no longer have the fusilli salmoriglio with seafood. Maybe they have a pared down lunch menu now and still serve the old menu at dinner… I tried the Signature While Chili today with brown rice and it was pretty delicious! HUGE portion, but so warm and comforting and FILLING! I wish it was less homogenous in color, but otherwise tasty!

Pretty good, pretty good. I came here to Kate Mantilini’s restaurant for a business lunch meeting. The restaurant is located on Wilshire Blvd among condos, entertainment companies, and convenience stores. Parking is pretty easy on the street, and this place gets crowded at lunchtime! I ordered the Italian Tri-Colored Salad. It was a nice medly of rodiccio, endive, and butter lettuce. The dish was plain, simpmle, and visually fun to eat. I got a side order of grilled chicken breast, which topped the salad. As you can see from the photo, the salad portion was rather small, as the chicken breat totally engulfed the salad. The salad was well balanced with the right touch of savory and sour. Grade: B– Service was pretty efficient and friendly. Food Grade: B– Service Grade: B+ Worth the Money Grade: B Overall Impression: B

Architect Thom Mayne has won many awards for designing buildings, and this place still holds up 25 years later. Hadn’t been for years(2006?), and not much else has changed either when I went for a late bite 3 weeks ago. A lot of the same people on staff(not just«older», but«old»), and the menu still contains a great selection for an upscale diner — ie. everything under the sun. I was surprised that the prices seemed so reasonable. After all, the location is in the thick of Beverly Hills. Additionally surprising was a $ 10 burger on the menu — but it failed big time in presentation and size(a mini 3 – 4 oz). Tasty(real fresh meat, not frozen), it was charbroiled and had a great brioche bun. But, still, no wonder it was priced so low. My friend Tony order a chopped cucumber and tomato salad for $ 12, and it was the size of a cup. Very disappointing in, again, the amount. No beers on draft, but several goodies by the bottle. I don’t know. I suppose I wasn’t crazy about it before, and that hasn’t changed. It’s one of those places that is ‘okay’, and perhaps maintains it’s place with older and regular clientele, business lunches, and the occasional late night diner… such as myself.

This place is a bit of a sleeper, despite being on a busy corner of Wilshire. It’s got its own parking lot, which is valet only, but you can find 2 hour street parking within reasonable walking distance. I walked in and was instantly greeted by the hostess. She was very nice and seated us immediately(it was pretty empty inside). We started with an appetizer order of calamari. It was cooked well and wasn’t overly fried. My fiancé ordered the meatloaf, and I ordered the white chili. He loves meatloaf and thought his plate, complete with mashed potatoes and kale, was great. I was not a huge fan of the meatloaf(I generally do not like it), but I thought the kale was well done. My white chili was great! The serving size was a bit much, but that is definitely better than the alternative. I was able to eat the other half for lunch the next day! I had a Groupon, which got us $ 25 off of our meal. We would have spent quite a pretty penny without the Groupon, and I’m not sure I would eat here at full price.

The free bread is SOOOO good! But that’s about it… The service was great. Our server was friendly and quick to give us more bread after my boyfriend and I quickly devoured it. We didn’t even have to ask for it! He then made a joke that the bread is the best part. Unfortunately that joke turned out to be true. The rotisserie chicken didn’t have much flavor. The white chili was bland and I didn’t care to finish it, nor my leftovers that I took home in case I got hungry later. It’s kind of pricey too :\ Too bad I’ll never come here again, cuz that bread was so damn good.
