If you have never been to Mastros, I think you should definitely drop everything you are doing and Goooooooo! I don’t eat red meat and I still enjoy this place every time. I’ve been here over about 15 times and every time we go, it’s better than the last. There are 3 floors of amazing atmosphere. I suggest the penthouse if you are more about the live shows scene. The second floor is the piano bar which is also pretty nice if you’re into that kinda thing. I do not recommend the first floor because it’s more of the formal dinner atmosphere which I personally don’t like, but hey it may fit what you’re looking for. The food is extraordinary. Preparation is beyond this world. All of their side dishes are master crafted and their service is TOPGRADE! cheers to the best restaurant in the prestigious BEVERLYHILLS!

I have been here twice, and both times have been top shelf. The warm butter cake is maybe — maybe — the best dessert I have ever had. You are brought a plate — plate! — of whipped cream to put on the cake. It is so, so good. I’ve had the New York strip and the pork chop. The quality of the meats is top shelf, and the chef prepared them with great skill. I personally preferred the steak, but you won’t go wrong with either one. The sides are also wonderful, e.g. onion rings made with a nice, sweet batter, garlic mashed potatoes whipped to creamy perfection. What may — or may not — cause you to balk is the price. It is expensive, and much of what you are paying for is atmosphere, especially if you eat outside on the roof.

Had dinner here for the first time. I like my steak medium and it was overcooked. I expect my steak to be cooked accurately at a steakhouse. Disappointing. Won’t be back.

I love Mastro’s, but will never come back to the penthouse. The night club dining is not something you want when trying to have a family dinner. Especially when you have 3 children with you. This is the WORST experience I have ever had at a Mastro’s, and to top it off, none of the staff appear to care… Mind you my family and I goto the Palms Springs location almost religiously. That location is the best location i have been to. Lloyd Scott, the penthouse manager tonight, even got an attitude with my brother-in-law, when he talked to him about turning the extremely loud dance music down some. It is clear that management does not care about the customer at this location. If there was a way for me to give 0 stars I would do it in a heart beat.

We came here to celebrate a special occasion with a couple of friends. The restaurant is more casual than the original steakhourse downstairs, but I thought it was just the right atmosphere for our occasions of young friends. We ordered a wide range of dishes including the lobster tails, steak fillet, porterhouse and salmon and sides including cream corn, Brussels sprouts and garlic mash. I particularly enjoyed my lobster tails. I thought I have had more exceptional brussel sprouts, and it felt more flat, compared to the delicious cream corn and mash potatos. But it was still alright. Overall, it was a delicious meal and we even received a slice of cake on the house. :) P. s. I think everyone at the party enjoyed the meal, considering we finished everything. will come back for more, with friends.

Love love love this place! Never disappoints. Only downer is even when you have a reservation on a busy night, you still wait some time to get a table — but definitely worth the wait! I die for their dessert!!! F*cking Amazing!

Mastro’s was one of my favorite restaurants. Although it’s been three years since my last trip, I remember the food and service was always consistently amazing. If you’re a Mastro’s fan, the Penthouse is a must. Although it’s the same menu as the 1st and 2nd floors, it has a different vibe with a DJ and dimmer lighting. Since I booked an early dinner reservation, I loved the outside terrace and watching the sunset. Strawberry Bliss Cocktail(4 stars) — It’s a sweet cocktail with fresh strawberry flavor garnished with a basil leaf. Although the cocktails are $ 20+, it did come with a sidecar so it was like paying for 1.5 cocktails. Shrimp Cocktail(5 stars) — It comes with 3 shrimp so they always as if you want to even out by adding an additional shrimp. It was fresh, delicious and resembled the quality and texture of a lobster. Wagyu Tomahawk Ribeye(3 stars) — I was looking forward to this for so long. It’s always been a 5 star piece of meat, but just didn’t do it for me this time. It needed more seasoning. I like it medium rare and wasn’t evenly cooked. It was also more chewy instead of melt in your mouth deliciousness. My fiancé ordered it too and agreed with me. It’s an expensive cut, and I should have ordered the regular ribeye for half the price. Alaskan King Crab Black Truffle Gnocchi(5 stars) — It so rich, buttery, and delicious. Eating this made temporarily forget my disappointed feelings of the steak since it was as delicious as I remember. With the right amount of crab and truffle along with potato pillows of gnocchi, I could have had this as my entrée. Since it was my birthday, It was a nice gesture when they gave me a slice of their Chocolate Cake(2 stars) with freshly whipped cream(5 stars). I was never a fan of their desserts. Overall, the service was 4 stars. It wasn’t the best service I’ve ever had at Mastro’s but still great. If I return, I’ll skip the steak and just go for apps, seafood or the gnocchi.

Steaks good, it never disappoints. Lobster mash potatoes good. Creamed spinach and creamed corn is okay. Lawrys the prime rib place has better creamed corn. Service seemed good but not quite. I made reservations via phone for party of 7 and when we arrived and called, they said party of 3 under my name. How stupid! How can a worker misunderstood 7 for 3. I’m still mad because it was a surprise birthday for my guest and they were not able to seat us until he and I arrived. Only to be surprised that his friends were standing at the bar waiting for the table when we already called for reservations.

1 Year hiatus. Sorry Unilocalsters. No better way to reenter the reviewing world than with a 5 Star gem in Mastro’s Penthouse! We’ve been to the Piano Bar area before but have never tried the Penthouse. It is an experience that you need to go through at least once if you like Mastro’s. I will explain. After you valet your car, you make your way through the crystal doors into the dark, ominous lobby of this enchanted restaurant. As we enter, we see a line of about 10 people waiting to give their name to the receptionist but we make our way past these impromptu dinner seekers who didn’t make a reservation at the Penthouse and head into a dark hallway where we see Dr Who’s elevator with no obvious signage to its destination. We get in, hit 3, and end up in the delightful and airy Penthouse level. First thing I notice is the modern DJ table with a girl playing some decent 90’s hip hop and R&B. Much different than the live piano music on the 2nd floor. Another obvious difference is the lighting. Much more airy and open compared to downstairs. Very beautiful setting. We made our way to our table with a window view but just inside the patio. It was 6 pm and it was still scorching outside so we didn’t want to sweat for the 1 ½ hours until the sun set behind the buildings if we sat outside. Although, once the sun did set behind the buildings, it seemed very nice to be outside but we can try outside when the weather is not ridiculously stupid hot and humid in late September. Ugh. First things first… Wine list. This Mastro’s charges a ridiculous $ 40 corkage fee /$ 80 for mags, which is $ 15 more than what it was when I last went in Costa Mesa, I believe. That’s a lot. We decided to choose a bottle from the list so we went with a nice Left Bank Bordeaux at a reasonable price. Our waiter was exceptional as were the runners and rest of the staff. No one disappointed and everybody was attentive. No stone left unturned. A sign of a well coached team so kudos to the manager. The bread basket was dangerously good and offered an array of different varieties with the standouts being the Pretzel bread and the Garlic toast. You have to be careful not to get full on this stuff but I could see that happen if you love your breads. I ordered the Bone-In Filet 18 oz Medium Rare. Couldn’t resist. Everybody else had the 20 oz NY, 12 oz Bone-In Filet, and the 24 oz Bone-In Ribeye. Instead of appetizers, we decided to skip it and go hard into the main course so we chose 4 sides: Sauteed Mushrooms, Green Beans with Sliced Almonds(Extra Almonds at the request of the Birthday Boy), Garlic Mashed Potatoes, and the ridiculous sounding Alaskan King Crab Black Truffle Gnocchi. Oh yeah, if anyone had Gout, it was most def going to flare up tonight!!! My steak was perfect. No doubt that the Meat Station knew how to time their beef. Textbook Medium Rare. All the sides were great but the Gnocchi was really decadent. Rich and perfectly seasoned, matched well with the umami of the truffle. Dangerous stuff. It was my brother in law’s birthday and we decided to come here because he really loves this place, for good reason of course, but he REALLY hates to celebrate his birthday for whatever deep seeded reason that is buried way down in that mysterious history of his, filled with decomposing skeletons buried by 10 feet of crap. So what better way to honor his wishes than to embarrass him with a giant birthday decorated dessert plate!!! At least they didn’t sing to him so he was relieved but what really took his mind off of it was the fact that the dessert was their popular Butter Cake!!! Whoa. That cake is really good. No words to explain it. Just try it. I was relieved to not see a Lava cake pop out at some point. We decided to venture over to Bouchon across the street for a night cap but didn’t last too long as we were all pretty wiped out from such a great meal. Cheers to a terrific dinner and many more to come!

Best meal I’ve had in a long time! We went for my birthday dinner and it far exceeded my expectations. The service is on point which is a huge plus for me. It just sets the tone for how the evening will go. I really liked how our server knew all about the choices and where they came from, which he lost me a few times but I’ll blame it on the cocktails! Lol! I highly recommend the lobster mashed potatoes and the Mac n cheese. The shrimp cocktail was a bit over priced for 3 shrimp, so I would choose something else the next time. My boyfriend and I had cocktails, which were yummy and the bartender was definitely not stingy with the liquor. I had a pomegranate martini which I highly recommend. Over all it was an amazing night!

My boyfriend and I went to Mastro’s for our 7 year anniversary. We ordered the Lobster Mashed Potatoes to share. I ordered the Rack of Lamb and he ordered a Rib-Eye Steak. It was simply delicious. This is officially my NEW favorite restaurant. Sorry NOBU. :)

Well what can I say… I was very impressed with the service and food. I made reservations for 745pm and I was seated half and hour early. David are server tool care of us out on the patio. Dj played some chill music. First time here and I will be back again for sure. Came for my 3 year anniversary. We shared the the scallop appetizer, ribeye steak, mash potatoes with lobster, and Mac and cheese. All were amaze balls. Flavor was delicious. Yes, it was pricey but my girlfriend loves it. I’m usually not a fan of fancy places but it won my heart. They finished it off with a chocolate cake desert. Thank you guys.

The food is great and the service was good. We’ve been here several times over the years and haven’t been disappointed. I don’t do sea food but our group loved the stuffed mushrooms and lobster mashed potatoes. The Mac and cheese is great and you can’t go wrong with the filet.

I brought my boyfriend here last night for his birthday dinner. Ok, good news first. This place had a really nice staff. Lovely hostesses and servers. We personally recieved quality care from bussers, runners, valet, and the door man. The moment we walked in, there was a «happy birthday» from each staff member we encountered, which was so nice. They even called me this morning to say«Thank you for dining with us» which was also lovely and unexpected. My boyfriend really liked his steak, which was the chefs cut porterhouse I believe. I didn’t try it(I don’t eat beef) but it looked very nice, as you can see from the pictures. We Also had crab cakes, and scallops for an appetizer. The crab cakes were tasty, but I wish they were hot. .they had cooled quite a bit from the kitchen to the table but they were still good. I also had sweet potatoe fries, which to be honest, I didn’t like. They had a strange crispy coating that is similar to tempura, which made it very hard to actually taste the sweet potatoe. For an entrée, I ordered the rack of lamb which could’ve used more seasoning for my taste, but was cooked to a very nice medium. Sigh.. now the bad stuff. It was waaaay to dark in there. We literally had to break out our flashlight apps to see the menu. That’s not good. I understand a romantic vibe, but it was too much. The darkness in the room we were in made us take notice of the PDR (Private dining room) we were seated next to. It had much more light, and had I known they had a PDR, I would’ve booked a table inside that area. Here is where things go very bad in my eyes. There were several tables being bussed in the PDR, and as we were seated right next to it, I could see that a server(or busser) dropped and shattered a wine glass on the table. In my mind I’m thinking he’s going to remove the table cloth, glasses, and silverware and put a new cloth. Glass chards are hard to see. He only used his crumber to clean the table! My God! How dangerous for the customer that comes next to sit there, with possible glass imbeded in the tablecloth! You put your elbows and hands there.. Not to mention if a piece of food lands on the table and you still want to eat it.. holy shit. That is a big time no no! Also, we all know that Mastros isn’t cheap. Why did they charge me for the birthday cake slice that came out for my boyfriend? Damn, really? I’ve NEVER, EVER had a spot charge for that, especially a place where the customers are dropping major coins. A slice of cake for a birthday is free at every place I’ve ever been. It’s just a bit low brow when you have Bentleys and Maybachs coming through your valet. I also can’t stand when a server is switched mid service. A fine dining experience is like a massage. .it needs to be the same flow throughout. Imagine you’re getting a massage, and right in the middle, your masseuse stops and says, «This is so and so… she’ll be talking care of you the rest of the way.» It seriously kills the vibe. .not to mention, it confuses me on who gets my tip at the end. Our second server was very nice, but she got in the weeds and our food was packed to go by the time the cake slice came out, and I thought they forgot about his birthday, when a HOSTESS brought the cake. Not good. I expected more. I don’t mind dropping major dollars at a place, but I’m not sure that this spot was worth the hype. They cut corners where they shouldn’t. Would I go back? Meh…80/20 no to yes.

I came to Mastro’s awhile ago. Came this time around with my gf, her brother and her friend. I’m not big on eating red meat but I do crave a good steak once in awhile, especially if Mastro’s. Parking is valet($ 9). Last time I dined downstairs, which is more of a quiet vibe. A bit of an older crowd or maybe where your parents would celebrate their anniversary. This time we went to Penthouse, which is a total opposite vibe! Their was a dj, younger crowd, and just way more louder. I think a vibe between the two would be perfect. The menu varies from appetizers, seafood, salads and soups, different cuts of steak, sides and desserts. And of course their big lists of wines. _Beef Carpaccio. Just as good as I last remembered. Big portions of really thin sliced carpaccio throughout the plate. Served with 3 slices of toasted bread and arugula salad w/shaved parmesan. Although the carpaccio is good it’s so thin that as you try to pick it, it falls apart and mashes to crumbles. But it pairs real well with the bread and lightly dressed arugula. _Tuna Tartare. Small size, good for 2 to share. The tuna itself is good but I’ve had better. Presented like a tower with crisp crumble of tortilla chips on the bottom, good portion of avocado mashed in the middle and ahi tuna on top all perfectly packed rounded with some aioli drizzled on top. Light and refreshing a good appetizer to start off with. _Bone in Filet(12oz). I usually get petite filet mignon but my gf says this cut is better since she wanted to get fish and we do a surf and turf type of combo. My complain about this, we asked for medium rare and it came out rare! it was so red, my gf did not finish it and I ate most of it although the last bite I just ate the cooked part. I would have returned it but I was too hungry. For a steakhouse this is a pretty amateur mistake. I still prefer my filet mignon. _Chilean Sea Bass. This was good and a nice small portion. The fish inside was real soft. However I’ve had way better. The outer layer was a bit dry and flavor was real bland. But It is a steakhouse so fish is not the first thing that comes to mind. But it was nice to do a surf and turf to change things up. _Sugar snap peas. Last time it was good, this time it was good, but wow I forgot how much it was drenched in butter. I liked the fresh crispiness of it but for a vegetable it tasted pretty heavy. Next time I’ll ask for easy butter. _Truffle shoestring fries. This was amazing! I mean fries and truffle how can it be bad?! They served it in a big portion. Real thin and crisp and the truffle was evenly spread throughout. You can really taste the truffle without it being overbearing or not enough. I would come again and just make those small adjustments, hopefully this time they will cook the steak medium rare and not sashimi rare.

Whoa. That’s what I said when they brought my 22 oz ribeye. I’ll get back to that… I’ve been to Mastro’s Beverly Hills a few times over the years but never to the Penthouse. To be honest, I didn’t even know it existed. To reach the Penthouse you take an elevator from the back of the restaurant. When I stepped out the elevator it was like being in a different restaurant. If downstairs was stuffy and old, the upstairs penthouse was young & hip. In addition to the dining area, there was a DJ spinning records, a bar, a beautiful patio overlooking BH. The birthday party I attended was in the private dining room. It was… swanky I’m not going to lie. Jude was our server — he’s the best! He was extremely attentive, funny… just an overall likeable guy. Let’s not mince words, this place is expensive. Worth it? Every penny. I definitely over-ordered with the ribeye. It was huge! And so good. Not the best steak I’ve ever had but pretty damn close. For sides we got the green beans & lobster mashed potatoes. Very good. I got a bowl of the lobster bisque and I found that to just be ok. It was a little too creamy for my taste. We were a party of 21 so we had 2 seafood towers: lobster, crab, shrimp… wow oh wow. I had such a good time at this restaurant. So much that I’m already planning on having my birthday there.

Mastro’s we meet again! I’ve been really wanting to try this Penthouse level of Mastro’s. In summary, you get the same awesome service and food but with a younger and hipper atmosphere. The views are awesome and you can dine outdoors should you want to. This time I had the bone in rib eye with truffle butter. Absolutely delicious. The truffle butter was top notch. Also ordered the Alaska king crab black truffle gnocchi. So luxurious and rich in flavor. Impeccable attentiveness.

Wow — this place really lived up to the hype. Coming from the south — I have high expectations about my steakhouse experiences here in Cali. I have to say — the quality, cut, ingredients, and service can’t be beat here. If you’re willing to dish out $$$ for a great steak meal and a young, trendy ambiance — this is definitely the place for you. I came here with a group of friends on a Friday night and I can’t tell you how amazing the experience was for us. The steaks were perfectly cooked — well seasoned and no under-cooked plates at the table… LOVEIT! The sides were fresh and filled with yummy gooey-ness. They do make a vegetarian pasta if you happen to have a veggie in your party. My The peppered steak was my absolute favorite and the maca a cheese with some freshly chopped jalapenos mixed in — YUM! Definitely be sure to try the lobster mashed potatoes — you’re belly will thank you pre-food coma. I absolutely fell in love with this restaurant and appreciate the high standard of quality and service they keep. I would highly recommend this place and definitely be back again soon for another visit!

This place just gets livelier and livelier. We arrived at 8 pm and at 10:30 when we were leaving it was getting packed. I like the DJ spinning some nice tunes and the vibe is better than the Mastros vibe a flight below The food was spot on tonight and everyone loved what they ate Well done or should I say — medium rare?

This place was amazing. I’m impressed with everything about this place, from the food to the service! I brought my girlfriend here for her dinner for her 22nd birthday. I was hoping the crowd wouldn’t be too quiet and boring. It was actually a perfect crowd with perfect noise level and good vibes. There was also a DJ who was playing some decent music. I was sick and didn’t really want to drink, but he offered me a whiskey cocktail I couldn’t deny. I don’t remember the name, but it had an orange peel inside it lol. We started off with shrimp cocktail and lobster. I was very impressed with the shrimp! Finally, somewhere that has really fat jumbo shrimp.(Lawrys’ and Kate Mantilini’s shrimp cocktail were a joke compared to here). The lobster was also amazement. My girlfriend ordered a steak(filet mignon I think, don’t remember lol). She got it well done which in my opinion is way too over done. I tried it, but wasn’t a fan. I got a ribeye done medium and it was great. Have I bad better steak elsewhere at a less fancy restaurant? Yes, but this was close to one of the bests I’ve had. It was huge! Being the fatty that I am, I’m surprised I couldn’t finish it. They brought out a really delicious and huge chocolate cake with just a huge bowl of whip cream next to it. It was really good, but I was so full I only had a few pieces. PERFECT place for a birthday, anniversary, Valentine’s day, or any special ocassion… even if there’s no occasion and you’re simply craving good food, go to Mastro’s Penthouse!
