Getting the Japanese hair straightening treatment from Michi is the best decision I’ve ever made when it comes to my hair. I used to have super curly hair. Throughout the years it became more frizzy and wavy on the top and super curly and unmanageable on the bottom. I was worried initially since I am a swimmer and am in the chlorine 5 days a week but there has been no problem. Michi is amazing. She takes so much pride in her work, looks at each strand to make sure it is right and is an overall awesome woman to be around. The treatment is amazing because it makes my hair super soft, airs dries how I want it, there are NO chemicals and I only have to come back every 6 – 8 months to touch up my roots. I am a customer for life!

I’ve been a client of Michi since 2004 when I first tried the Japanese straightener. I tried the Brazilian straightener in between but I will say I prefer Michi’s knowledge, experience and patience over the Brazilian. Michi has resurrected my hair after the Brazilian which made my hair completely frizzy and unmanageable. If you don’t want to go completely straight, Michi has a relaxer and a smoother which make your hair straight but not completely straight. I have the privilege to say I’ve tried both of them and was extremely happy with the final result. I give Michi 5 stars for turning my natural wave to straight locks without really having to blowdry.

I’ve been a client of Michi for 15 years and she is an artist. Michi can work with any hair type and create masterpieces that you can do yourself. I have thick, heavy hair and she creates body and movement making me feel like a new woman after our visits. I’m extremely particular about my hair. Michi listens, looks at your facial structure and will show you pictures of her vision. She’s also an amazing colorists who cares about the health of hair which is important to me as well. After every visit I have at least 10 people who comment on my hair. Michi is top notch, one of kind and worth every dollar spent.

I just got home from my first root touch-​up with Michi and once again she’s done an amazing job! If Unilocal had 10 stars I’d give her all of them! I came across Michi’s website about 2 years ago when I was looking to do a japanese straightening treament on my VERY curly hair. I went in for a consultation and by the end of it Michi told me I had to wait until my hair grew out some. You see, I had recently had other hair processes done, like highlighting so my hair wasn’t a good candidate at the time for her treatment. I was thoroughly impressed with the amount of time Michi spent with me on the consult — she asked questions about the exact processes I had done in the past, what chemicals were used, etc. She meticulously analyzed my hair, feeling for strength, thickness, and amount of curl. I was sad at the time I couldn’t immediately do the treatment but oh so grateful that Michi was honest with me. Most hair dressers aren’t as experienced as Michi and would have just done the process in order to make the money. Michi sent me home with some special hot oil treatments and a regimen to get my hair in healthy shape! A year and a half later, I was back at Michi with my fingers crossed that my hair had grown out enough. It had! We set a date and just like my consult, Michi was meticulous about the process — it’s clear there’s a real science to japanese hair straightening! I have now gone through the initial first treatment and my first touch up (4 months later). My hair is healthier than it’s ever been and dries perfectly straight! Seriously, it’s like magic! I wish Unilocal had a photo option so I could share a before and after picture, and you could see just how great of a job she’s done! I LOVE Michi and you will too!

Very unprofessional attitude she quoted me a price over the phone for Japanese hair statementing of $ 350 then i came in did my hair color weeks before that appt and she overcharged me $ 250 for color! Then i call to schedule my straightening and she says $ 650!!! LOL. This lady doesnt understand that she even gave me the whole story about economy being bad so shes charging $ 350 for it including a haircut. Maybe she has memory loss but she claims she didnt say that!!! WOw i even wrote the price down and she claims she didnt quote me a price! hmm i guess i just wrote down numbers out of the blue… what a rude rude lady! Ladies be aware she changes prices on you so in any economy take your $ elsewhere.

I met Michi over 15 years years ago when she was just starting out as a stylist and I could tell from my 1^st appt that she was super talented but she was also one of the nicest people I’ve ever met.
I have the worse coarse, thick, dry, damaged red hair that is going gray fast. Michi was able to match my natural hair color from when I was a kid and she used a special straightener product from Japan, which at the time was a brand new product. The results were amazing and I have yet to find another stylist who can do what she does for my hair. It’s the healthiest it’s ever been and I owe it all to her talented hands.

Just had my hair straightened by Michi today and I LOVE it as usual. I have been getting my hair straightened by Michi since 2007 and I will follow her anywhere! My hair is soft and silky and not at all damaged. No weird chemical smell either. Michi performs miracles, especially since my hair is also colored and highlighted, its AMAZING that she can perform a straightening treatment on top of all that and not damage a single hair! I love Michi :) (and her sweet pug too).
As far as price goes, you get what you pay for. Japanese straightening isn’t cheap, but its well worth it.
I usually park across the street at the park, even though it says 2 hour parking, I’ve been there for longer and never had a problem.

I wish I could give Michi a 6^th star! I have been one of Michi’s clients for many years because she does absolutely fantastic work. I will NEVER go to anyone else for hair straightening. Michi uses the best products, unlike other salons that use straightening solutions that contain toxins such as formaldehyde. Michi’s products are safe and many of them are organic in addition to smelling great. While her products are awesome, what really sets MIchi apart from others who do Japanese hair straightening is her meticulous attention to detail and her commitment to keeping your hair in the best condition possible; my hair always looks healthier and shinier than when I walked in. Also, Michi has a great studio in Santa Monica now, which is very relaxing and comfortable. It feels like you’re going to a good friend’s loft to hangout instead of sitting in a bustling, gossipy salon where you can get a headache from smelling all of the chemicals being used. She also has free underground parking for her clients, which is a huge bonus in LA.
Bottom line: Go to Michi if you want fabulous, straight hair. Trust me, she is worth every penny!

Michi truly is as good as it gets. I have been going to her for about 5 years now and I trust NO ONE else with my hair! The Japanese Straightening has changed my life in more ways than one and Michi brightens my life with her cheery presence and professional styling. I love her so much that I moved to NYC and flew back to LA just to go to Michi. She makes you feel like a VIP when you get your hair done — she’s got a private room with a DVD player, so bring your movies! Honestly, I wouldn’t hesitate for one second to rec commend Michi for hair straightening, cut, color, etc. Go to her! You won’t regret it and you will be so grateful to have Michi in your life!

I love going to michi. She’s at a salon on robertson but she’s in the back– in a private room w/​glass walls. So, you can see what’s happening in the salon but with the door closed it’s quiet. I bring my laptop and get work done during highlights. Her cuts are amazing– it grows out perfectly. I’ve never had compliments on my cuts before going to Michi. I love her highlights too– I’ve also gotten tons of compliments on my color. She will always ensure your blonde looks natural.

I’ve been treating my hair with Japanese Straightening for over two years. Michi is amazing and my hair looks great. Her studio is very comfortable, and while she takes care of your hair you can catch a movie.
Even though this kind of hair treatment is pretty expensive she is not overpriced at all.
