I’ve been coming here for 6 years because NELSONj salon is the VERY BEST! I personally go with Aaron and used to do with Richard for 3 years. and I can’t ask for better! He’s an amazing colorist and great with haircut! It’s known that with most hair stylists you never know what to expect until the work it’s done, and to be honest Aaron and Richard are the only ones that they understand what you want and that You can relax and seat back while they take care of your hair !! I am every single time super happy!

I went in with super faded pink/​purple/​green/​blue hair with horrible roots (it was super embarrassing) but came out with the best color I have ever had! I had always wanted to go light/​silver but everyone told me I would never be able to do it, until i went to Aaron who actually suggested it. I have never loved my hair this much! If you want crazy colors you have to go to Aaron he is simply the best!!!

Aaron really hooked me up and turned me into a Rose Gold Sultry Phoenix. So happy! On my way to a job interview right after so feeling pretty fly right now! He totally boosted my confidence. It’s exactly what I wanted if not more.

I love Nelson j! The service is excellent: from the receptionist to hair stylist.
However, the great service is noted in the unmistakable skill with the hair stylists or colorists that they have here.
For those who want to go for bold, young and unique hair go to Aaron. Aaron is a great colorist that knows how different colors and tones work harmoniously together for your look. Aaron does a great job with vibrant colors (blue, purple, pink, silver, etc) without making it look contrived. He makes these fun colors look natural. He has a great understanding on what’s bold and trending while keeping your hair safe, healthy and vibrant. But more importantly, he is super awesome about letting your ideas go wild. With his positive personality, he will let you go as bold as you want!
More recently, I have gone from very dark black hair to very light blonde and Aaron worked on my hair from opening to closing ensuring my hair was at its healthiest. I’m happy to say, no split ends, frizz or grossness that come from bleaching my hair so light!

Aaron is an absolute gem. My mom just came in today for a new style and coloring, and WOW she is a whole new person. I have never seen my mom so happy with her hair in her life. Everything about her hair is gorgeous. She originally went in for an ombré, but came out with a graceful balayage, she originally went in with black hair with some of her grey roots growing in. He started off by painting the roots black, and worked downwards giving her sun kissed brown lowlights. His work is absolutely beautiful, the lightness of the brown color has opened up my mothers faith leaving her a bit more youthful. I would highly recommend this place, I will be back on Thursday for my hair, I’m so excited!

I came into Nelson J Salon to see Aaron about changing the tone of my hair from light brown to copper and he did a great job! I later got bored with the copper and wanted to go back to my light brown hair with highlights and he just balanced out my color with a toner! He did not try to bleach it out and damage my hair. I have recommended clients to see him and they too have been satisfied. This is a great and knowledgeable salon five stars for sure!

From frizz to fab in 2 hours! Yesterday’s emergency visit to the salon was a great lift for me. My hair was dry, frizzy and out of control. Nelson fit me in at the last minute and did his magic with his natural smoothing treatment.(not to be confused with the toxic keratin straightening stuff) I’ve had them all and now that Nelson is my number 1 go to guy for all things HAIR, I’m thrilled with the results. Nelson is a true artiste in all ways, but his specialty is HEALTH first. From smoothing conditioning treatment to expert color to cut, he’s a master at all. Some salons have their experts in color, others cut and style, but NELSON has it all, without the ego and attitude. I’ve tried the rest and now I just stick with the BEST! If you’re looking for your Hair guru, then Nelson is the one and only!!!

Came here for to get my hair colored for the first time, ever. I was incredibly nervous but Ray was so great. He gave me such an amazing cut and color and I haven’t been this happy with my hair in years! I feel super sassy and owe it all to the amazing Ray. Thank you so much for making me feel comfortable, calming my nerves and giving me a style I never knew I could love so much!

I’ve been seeing Corey at Nelson J for several years now and she is a phenomenal stylist. I always leave her chair feeling more beautiful than when I walked in. My hair both looks and feels better since I started going to her. It’s really never looked better or been healthier than in the past few years since I started going to her. Corey really goes above and beyond; she’s patient, offers fun suggestions, encourages me to try new things, but never pressures me to do anything outside my comfort zone. I’m so glad I found such a thoughtful stylist!

My experiences at Nelson J are always fantastic, aside from fabulous hair from Ray, I get the sweetest attention and help from the front desk. The gentleman there always greets me with a smile and always seems to know what my favorite drink is and without hesitation gets it for me. They now have bobbe joy makeup studio inside. Heaven. I love coming here to get my hair cut by Chris. He’s just about the only stylist that has cut my hair perfectly and every time its perfect.
I have been going to Chris for 5 or 6 years now. I now have been living in San Francisco for a little over two years but I still make an appointment with Chris every time I am in Los Angeles. (I tried new people in SF but they dont compare. I run back to Chris as fast as possible.)
I have a lot of hair (some curly, some wavy, some straight, some frizzy, some tick and some thin strands) and my hair reacts horribly to a mediocre or bad cut but Chris knows exactly how to handle it and I have never once not loved what he has done. He takes the time to hear what I want done if its different than my normal style and will make suggestions if I am not sure about bangs or a bob (which I loved having).

Initially, I was a little intimidated to drive to Beverly Hills and deal with snobby types, but not here. Everyone is extremely down to earth. Nelson is great because he goes over how to make your hair its absolute best. Late last year, he recommended I have Richard color/​cut/​style my hair and I am so glad that I did! Richard is great with my hair type (naturally thin/​curly/​frizzy) and is always looking out for my hair, suggesting techniques and awesome products to keep it healthy and long. Thank you Nelson J Salon!

Nelson J. and his staff continue to be just incredible.
The staff at the reception, Shan, Billy, are just awesome, professional, and good looking, of course with Nelson’s precision cuts and styles. They are all patient at check-​in when I am thinking how I should pay and have so much in my hands.
Another shining star is Nelson’s assistant, Hayeen. Hayeen gives a great shampoo, that I could sit in the chair all day. She goes beyond. She always gives me hot fresh coffee, and one day when cookies were gone, and they ran out, she actually made me some from scratch. Who would do that? At most salons, you are lucky to get water, and in a small dixie cup, Not at Nelson’s. you can have water or a glass soda and coffee with a real cup a saucer.
When you are there, make sure you meet Bobbie and make an appointment to have your make-​up done for your next celebration. You will have a better time celebrating, knowing how gorgeous you look.

I can honestly say this is the first time I’ve had my hair done where someone immediately understood and perfectly executed the hair color I want!
Let me mention the fact that I’ve been doing box die for a while, about 3 years. A mild bleach rinse to get rid of my rainbow shades of home died Feria reds and an installation of the perfect copper color. I have super fine hair and Sara handled amazingly! No burning, no pain, no breakage. Just perfect hair! I’ve had some nightmares before, and I’m thoroughly impressed!
Also, I should mention, I have several ear cartilage piercings. And for anyone who’s ever been snagged by a hair stylist, you know it feels awful. She was super attentive to them and didn’t touch them at all which was like an excellent cream cheese frosting on the cake.
Oh oh oh, and the rest of the staff is super friendly. Full of smiles, and intermittently checks out what’s going on with your hair. Pretty cool to see such an involved crew!

RUN AWAY!!! SCAMMERS!!!
I have never walked out on an appointment at a salon before, but there’s a first for everything. This place gets you in the door with a great deal and then tries to rip you off once you’re in the chair. Details below!
Booking: I booked an appointment through lifebooker for $ 97.50 single process color w/​partial highlights. I though that was quite a deal but I thought perhaps it’s a newer hairdresser and it didn’t include blowout so I though that made sense. I have booked the same thing with other salons with no problem.
Location: This place is incredibly hard to find, it’s in the back of some building. Salon was very cramped with product EVERYWHERE! (Already a red flag)
Arrival: I walked in and it was instantly awkward, no greeting or anything. I walked to the counter told them I had booked through Lifebooker and then they gave me a «tour» of their salon and listed all of their services. Clearly in hopes I would add on to my appointment. They gave me gross instant coffee. WTF, what places gives you instant coffee? At 10 AM? In Beverly Hills?
Hair dresser: I sat there awkwardly for 5 minutes, I don’t understand why, I was clearly the first appointment of t the day. His name was Richard, he seemed nice enough but he overall seemed confused. All I wanted was to dye my hair red again and add dark brown/​violet lowlights. (original deal was for highlights which would have been more work than the lowllights I wanted.) He put the hair swatches on my head which I though was unsanitary.

My hair dresser comes back and says he wants to give me a quote before we begin. Instantly I knew this was going to be bad. I have NEVER had to negotiate a price for a hair appointment, especially through lifebooker! And I feel like if they have to talk price beforehand it means they have had problems with this in the past.
First he tells me it will be $ 130 + tax. Uh no, I booked a specific deal through lifebooker for $ 97.50.
He leaves, gets his manager. Who was condescending and told me I could only get the deal if I booked through lifebooker, but he would «do me a favor» and give me a small discount anyway. Um, what?
I told him I DID book through lifebooker.
He says he can’t find me on his lifebooker calender. I show him my confirmation text FROM lifebooker. He leaves again.
He leaves, comes back 5 minutes later. (Keep in mind I have now been sitting there for over half an hour and at this point I’m embarrassed as hell and incredibly uncomfortable)\
Oh well what do you know, suddenly he can find it! (Super suspicious)
HE then tells me that won’t cover all the services I need and it’s now going to be $ 195+. UM WTF? Look if I was bleaching my hair or making a dramatic change I would get it. But I wasn’t! I was looking to touch up the roots and give my hair a bit more vibrancy! Basic Maintenance! He didn’t even go through what services they were going to be adding.
Hair FYI: I am a redhead by choice, I have had red hair for 2+ years. It was getting faded in roots were starting to peek through. Very often I will go in and they won’t even need to do dye but do a color glaze instead.
At this point I felt I was dealing with a high pressure car salesman and told him I would have to pass and stormed out of there. Something I have NEVER done before.
MUST AVOID!!!

So as of today still no reply from the owner of the salon, the only reply is from one of his employees. I mean really Eric L.!! Get some real people to review your salon.
I have nothing to gain from the truth while you have plenty to gain by trying to discredit a bad review by name calling, hmmm no picture says alot, I on the other hand have nothing to hide and that is why I have my picture up.
I am trying to save someone else from the same pain I went through from this unsanitary salon.
I only wish I would have said something while I was in the chair but I was caught up talking to the colorist who was doing my hair at the same time and never gave it a second thought that I could end up with an infection from the unsanitary tools used. It was only after I spoke to another manicurist who told me that the infection was from dirty tools and the fact that’s cuticles were cut so far down, again she had nothing to gain by telling me as she didn’t even know what salon I went to, and quick call the the DPR told me about the health regulations that manicurist was supposed to follow.
There was no «Trashy attitude» (I have to giggle a little because that is so girly of a thing for a guy to say) in fact I tipped for the only service that was sort of decent, the color I had done, if I was trashy I wouldn’t have tipped anyone. Considering my friends and I were the last 4 clients left in the salon by the time this occurred I know you weren’t a customer who was there when we were.
In plain English for you Eric. we, my 3 friends and I were the only customers in the salon when this occurred so stop lying that you were there with a bunch of other clients you sound crazy!!!
The photo’s are not only from the date of the service as shown on my iphone, but the same that was sent to the DPR for the sanitary violation code (section 7312 BPC) the following Monday, Oh but I’m simple minded, you my dear are the one that is simple minded if you don’t think I or others will know you are an employee who is trying to kiss your bosses butt by posting on his Unilocal.
So now who’s credibility is shot? Because as far as I can tell it is the Salon and the owner for having you post a reply to defend them when all could have been avoided with a call acknowledging the incident by Nelson.
So that is why I will never recommend this salon to anyone. Customer service goes a long way Nelson so remember that the next time you or your staff screw up and take the time to return a call or email because as they say one happy client tells 3 friends but one upset client tell 3,000. And that my friend is a business fact.
Oh and the fact that I gave 1 star was only because none wasn’t an option. :)

This is the only salon I trust with my hair.
All the staff there are amazing! Richard, Chris and Corey are my favorite hair stylists there. They are attentive, professional and extremely talented. My cut and color always comes out better than I expected. Thanks everyone at Nelson J! You are awesome!

I have been getting my hair cut, straightened here for a long time. Tori is a magician with scissors. I have thick wavy/​frizzy hair (normally) but she’s made it possible to have a beautiful A-​line cut and I get so many compliments. And I’ve been driving up from OC all this time!
