I dont even know where to begin with this review, so I will start with the easiest part the event info. Name:The 1stLA Fried Chicken Festival Place: The Coop @ GonPaChi Beverly Hills Hosted By: Food GPS, Helen Springut & Chefs Marcel V. & Haru K. Its a beautiful Sunday afternoon at The Coop, where 8 of Los Angeless’ Top Restaurants and Chefs are preparing their spin on an American Classic … Fried Chicken. This was a flavorful world tour via Fried Chicken. Starting in Cali with the Manhattan Beach Post Ping Ponging the Globe to Boder Grill, jitlada Thai, Spice Table, Mo-Chica, Mozza and ending up finally in Morrocco with Baco Mercat. With the Amazing DJ StepdDad spinning the best of the 90’s, Free Flowing Cocktails and Beer, this was perhaps the best FOODIE Event of my summer. Food GPS has done it yet again, pulling off a fabulous event inside a stunning venue. The Duo behind The Coop are Chefs Marcel Vigneron and Haru Kishi. These two are absolute geniuses in concept and presentation.

I’m not sure how helpful a review on a pop up restaurant that’s not there anymore will be, but I will say that the food and experience were both divine. Chefs Marcel Vigneron and Haru Kishi blew everyone away with a brunch unlike any that I’ve ever seen. The recipes and presentation were both inspired by a place and a time I have never seen nor known and the flavors were like the subtle blending of a perfect rainbow after a mighty storm. I’m not sure when the next one is, but whenever that is, you have to get there and support one of the best concepts in contemporary cuisine.

This brunch was really egg-straordinary! A friend invited me and I checked out the menu and figured it was definitely worth checking out. The old gonpachi space worked really well. They were mixing cocktails out on the patio and had dinners set up along the sushi bar so we could see all the action! It was a 5 course brunch and it was the best brunch I’ve had in years. Perhaps even the best brunch I’ve had ever! We were started with an egg served in an egg shell with truffle foam. This was actually my favorite dish of the day. It was incredibly creamy. The egg tasted more like a custard as it was equal parts white and yolk mixed with butter and cream. Then it was topped with the slightly cooler truffle foam. It was so decadent! Then we moved to a salmon course that was cured with a egg sauce, a nori sauce and a candied kumquat and a little play on wasabi. This dish was also eggcelent! The salmon was perfectly rare and the two sauces were both flavorful but so unique and the perfect compliment to the fish. The third dish was a soup of sorts — a prefect spring pea purée was poured over beautifully tender black tiger shrimp and chawan mushi(a Japanese egg custard). This dish was the most unique presentation and was the essence of spring. The fourth dish was a «nesting egg» with bacon. The egg came eggstravagantly wrapped in thin layers of phyllo that really did look like a nest. The egg was wonderfully poached and the pork belly was roasted in a sweet tamarind sauce. Unfortunately my pork piece was all fat, however my neighbors was all meat and quite phenomenal. It was on top of a bed of lightly dressed local arugula. Every ingredient on every dish was sourced from the best of the best. Dessert was a bread pudding topped with sabayon and macerated strawberries! Incredibly decadent, the bread pudding was moist and a hint of mint freshened every bite. Love! These are unquestionably two of the most talented chefs in LA. Both were present, excited and friendly. I do hope they do another pop-up together soon!
