This place got great reviews and wasn’t far, so we gave it a try. It’s clearly been in business for 40+ years for a good reason. It is probably the best roast beef I’ve had. SO and I ordered a large roast beef on an onion roll(the super beef is on an onion roll by default but you can get any on it according to the nice woman helping us), a super beef, onion rings and mozzarella sticks. I had my roast beef with sauce(aka BBQ sauce), mayo and cheese, otherwise known(«by the kids») as a 3-way apparently. It was perfectly medium rare, but not rare which can get chewy, and warm. The onion roll added just the right amount of taste and even my husband liked his sandwich a lot and he’s not a big roast beef fan. I thought the homemade onion rings were great, and while the marinara with the mozzarella sticks was tasty, the sticks seemed like they might be your standard frozen fare(which was fine, but I’ll probably skip them in lieu of the shoestring fries I saw all over the eat-in area, but not like all over the floor lol… on diner’s plates). I took home half of my large sandwich and reheated it along with some onion rings. It actually heated up amazingly well and was just as delicious(and that’s not easy to do with beef). Recommend oven at 400 degrees and only place it in once the oven is heated and then only for a min or two, just enough to warm it without further cooking it. Other things to note:. They were also in the process of pulling two freshly cooked roast beefs out of the oven when I was there(approx. 730pm pm on a Sunday), so you know they’re doing it right, and not cooking everything at one time and letting it sit around, aka fresh! The dining area was a good size, relatively, with around eight 4-chair tables and clean. I will definitely be back and now that I’m writing this review… I’m hungry… mmmmm roast beef!

Only negative thing about this place is that it’s too far from my house!!! Food was AMAZING and I will be taking another trip to Beverly just to eat here. The amount of food you get for the price is amazing and the quality of the food is AMAZING. The people that work there were very professional and quick! The older guy who works there even gave my fiancé a free small soda so we didn’t have to share mine!

Absolutely delicious Beef Sandwiches! Stopped in for take-out Saturday evening. The place was buzzing yet the line moved quickly. I had a Super roast beef and my companion a Junior roast beef. The sandwiches were melt in your mouth good. We did not try any sides, yet judging by customers in line, the other sandwiches and sides were very popular. Next time we hope that we can sit and stay and enjoy one of their sandwich platters. Great spot!

Great sandwich! I went with a super beef because for me, a roast beef sandwich pretty much has to be on an onion roll. Lettuce, cheese, horseradish and sauce makes a perfect combination. The service and staff were quick and attentive, counter and facilities were very clean and I even had no problem parking. I’ll definitely be back and remember, CASHONLY!

A local steered me right here. The roast beef is like biting into a cloud, so soft and fluffy. The North Shore sets a standard for quality roast beef sandwiches and Nick’s sets the bar pretty high.

Best beef sandwiches on the North Shore! Our favorite any time of year. This is classic roast beef sandwich stop, fresh buns and beef and the sauce is delicious!

The best roast beef sandwich to be found. I don’t know what they do exactly, but they are absolutely addictive. Extra sauce is a must!

In the area for work, hot Unilocal for a suggestion… 200+ reviews, 4.5 stars… Had to try it… So worth it! Affordable, best«super beef» I’ve ever had. Didn’t go overboard on the meat which I liked because it was manageable… Perfect McDonalds-esc fries and fountain Coke. Cash only was the only downfall.

1. They pocket your cash out of their shitty ATM 2. They stiff the IRS and line the walls of their Topsfield homes with Benjamins 3. Their beef is as good as any other shop’s on the North Shore 4. You have to park your car on the god damn train tracks to get a spot I just gave you four legitimate reasons to take your business elsewhere… Greek Ponzi scheme if you ask me

Say it ain’t so, Nick! I will stay true to your Beef, taxed or untaxed! Next time I order a Junior Beef, I’ll drop a fat tip to help with the legal fees!

If someone came to me & said that there could be only one sandwich in the world, & I had to pick it, it would be Nick’s Roast Beef-extra sauce! Period. I doubt that it will ever happen, but: If I were ever to do an Adam Richman type eating challenge, it would be with Nick’s Junior Beefs! Yes, the parking sucks, & it’s cash only, but the Roast Beef, & the barbeque sauce make up for it. As we say in Beverly: Nicks Rules!

The best! Grew up on the South Shore and never knew why«Roast Beef» was a big deal on the North Shore. It is so tender and taste so great… now I know. Nick’s is quick and done right every time. My kids come home for college and this is the first place they go. Great to have a local business that thrives! They only take cash… but do have an ATM right next to the check out. Parking can be tough at peak times since it is on the corner.

It had been over five years since I had last gone to Nick’s before tonight. I work 2nd shift, so finding decent places open after I get out of work is rare. The place hasn’t changed in those years. I did however forget that they’re cash only so I paid the $ 2 atm fee. I got a Jr beef, small fry, and a small coffee shake(gotta have the coffee shake). The Jr was massive. Enough so that I didn’t end up finishing my fries. Which there was also a good amount of, especially for a small. Overall: good sized portions, great roast beef, and open late are the things Nick’s has going for it.

Famous for what? After our party finished eating we think we figured it out. It must be the bumper sticker. From the pictures we gathered that the sticker is pretty famous. As for the rest, not so much. First impressions, this place needs updating and a good cleaning. Second impression, cash only. What year is it? Your more than welcome to use their own ATM that has a service fee. That is a major inconvenience for customers. They will tell you the credit card fees are too high. Reality is most are 2% or lower, add a dime to the beef and it is covered and customers will appreciate it. The person who took our order was very nice and efficient. We were disappointed that they only have horseradish sauce, not plain horseradish. Prices are in line with other beef joints. The big turnoff at the service counter was watching one of the other employees eat some of the fries as she was putting them into containers. Major red flag. We all got beef sandwiches and are all big fans of them. We were all in agreement. The roast beef is one of the most flavorless we have ever had and it was also a little dry. The beef is why we came and now it is why we will go elsewhere in the future.

Different parts of the country have regional food traditions — Philly has their cheesesteaks, Maryland has their soft shell crabs, Buffalo as their wings — and Boston and its North Shore has roast beef sandwiches. I wasn’t too familiar with this until I came to Beverly in 1992 to visit my girlfriend’s(and now wife’s) family. She had always talked about this place her and her friends would get hot roast beef sandwiches growing up and how amazing they were. From that first visit 23 years ago until my most recent one this week, one thing has not changed. The roast beef has never disappointed me. We have lived on the West Coast for the past 18 years and every time we summer when we come to visit family in Beverly, we make at least one, if not more stops at Nick’s. We now have three kids and they constantly are pressing to get to Nick’s. My order is pretty simple: Large beef with cheese and sauce, junior beef with cheese and sauce, fries and onion rings(the last two to share). If I’m particularly hungry I might get two large beefs, if I’m not, maybe just one. I never deviate from the order since I’ve never been disappointed and the reason you come to Nick’s is for the roast beef(not their chicken fingers, salads, etc). If you don’t want roast beef, go somewhere else. My only complaint about Nick’s is they could enter the modern age and take credit/debit cards — I know why they don’t, but I have stopped here and realized as I was ordering that I don’t have cash. Sure they have an ATM, but who wants to be taken to the cleaners with the crazy fees. Back in Seattle where we live, I often tell folks who’ve never been to the North Shore about this place, but certainly words cannot do justice to that first bite into a nice warm beef with sauce and cheese. It is pure bliss.

In the North Shore of MA, it’s a thing for everyone to call their business«famous» if you’re a roast beef place. In my opinion, there are only three really famous roast beef places around. Nick’s, Mike’s in Melrose, and of course Kelly’s. For me, though, Kelly’s is for name and brand power, while a place like Nick’s is a famous because of taste and quality. I’ve never been here and it not been absolutely packed, and it should be. Simple sandwich shop fare is just so good here. The roast beef three-way is incredible.
