The Oak + The Ax

The Oak + The Ax is a very cool, eclectic music & art venue hidden in downtown Biddeford. I haven’t actually seen a band play here but I’ve been inside a few times when there’s a new art exhibit.
More than anywhere else in the area, The Oak + The Ax reminds me of some places what I went to in the East Village of New York City back before the neighborhood because all trendy and gentrified, and I mean this as a total compliment.
It’s not an easy place to find. Walk in through the front door which is shared with a Mexican restaurant, go down the hall to the back of the building, go outside and then in the other door, and then through the door that says The Oak + The Ax. The drinks look interesting, particularly the sake infusions, and someday I hope to really see someone play inside.
Go during Biddeford’s ArtWalk, which is on the last Friday of every month. It’s a good way to poke around places that you might not normally go to because it’s the perfect excuse to walk in, look around, and then leave. And if you’re intrigued by what you see, go back and spend some more time there.
