Cold Spring Lodge

Great little place off the beaten path. We stayed in the hotel which was a great value, no TV, but hey you don’t stay in the Catskills to watch TV. They are very dog friendly and charge no pet fee (except for damage). They sell wood for the multiple fire pits available for use which have a great backdrop to the forest. There’s a communal mini fridge, microwave, and coffee pot for the guests in the hotel and the manager we dealt with was so nice and helpful. The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is the heat was inconsistent. It would go from freezing to stifling. We will return for sure!

I would have given this ****hole a zero star rating if possible. I almost fell through the floor in the bedroom. All of the floors were like walking through a funhouse. It was structurally unstable at many points. Any reno work done recently was slapped on with cheap materials, and done to cover damage that was not repaired properly. The wifi was NON existent, the owner had no clue what the security code was for it. She gave us three codes to try but it turned out to be an open network with zero or intermitent poor signal.
While we were hanging out by the fire pit, a couple of strang guys walk up on me and my wife who were told by the owner to help themselves to the wood pile that was next to our fire pit. It seemed a bit strange and unsettling since it was later in the evening.
The owner also made it seem like there is a bear that can be viewed in the morning doing his thing, which seemed like a photo opportunity. It turns out they have a bear problem. The trash bin had no means of security made for animals, especially since they are aware of their bear problem. The trash bin was less then 50′ away from the cabin. The bear was active all night and very, very loud. I made several attempts to shoe it away but he looked at me like i was’nt there, or it would leave with a bag of garbage and came back a little while later. My son was frightened and didnt sleep all night. In the morning there was trash all over.
The pictures as well as the description are completely misleading. The pool structure is crumbling and the water is very cloudy. We left a day early and lost 125.00. She called us the day before check in to ask that we pay cash instead of credit card. we found out why once we saw the place. I have stayed at hunting cabins with no modern conveniences that were in the middle of nowhere that were more well kept then these cabins.
STEER CLEAR OF HERE!

Once again we are at Cold Spring Lodge & Cabins in Big Indian, NY. I cannot give enough kudos to Mike & Sherry. The new managing couple. This is a beautiful, relaxing & fun place to spend a weekend or your life. We are BIG INDIAN fans and found our home away from home. Lookin forward to our next weekend in early December. I highly recommend Cold Spring Lodge & Cabins.
