Choppers

I have been visiting Big Sky for several years now and always make a point of eating here. This week I had a half order soup and sandwich. I went for calories as it was early lunch on NewYears Eve. The BLAT was perfect. Toasted thick grain bread with slabs of bacon. My soup was a spicy tomato /​cheese/​tortilla. That makes my mouth water just writing it down. The cocktails are great, service excellent even with full capacity. I also fall back on the great burgers. The menu has something for everyone! 45 for three big lunches and drinks, including tip.

Ate there for dinner on Dec 21. Extremely slow service. Friendly waitresses who try hard but understaffed. Burger was fine but rest of food was below average. Mac N Cheese was cold. Not going back.

If you want extraordinarily indifferent service this is your place! It would take so little to improve the customer experience but, despite all the negative reviews, management seems to revel in its reputation. Many locals like myself only find ourselves at Choppers when the other restaurants are closed.

The food was ok. The Waitress was pushy and unwelcoming. :(. I tried to get her to not be so pushy but it was like she was bothered at our lunch arrival.
Got the chopped salad. Forgot to get the dressing on side, ASK FOR IT ON THE SIDE BECAUSE IT IS WAY TOO MUCH.
The place is nice but I felt unwelcome based on he waitress, Kaily I think her name was. Saturday lunch, place was not busy.
She was young, so maybe new.
We all got iced tea which was very good.
Recommend for a quick meal but they need to work on friendliness in my opinion.

I like this place but the last year it has gone down hill. The quality of food has gone down and their customer service is crap. I called to make a pick up order and I was told they were too busy to do take out orders. I am sorry since when did a restaurant not serve food to take out customers? So if I came in and waited and TIPPED you, then you would serve me? I normally tip on take out… Anyway… all I can say is Wow. Their service is slow and you have to flag a waitress down to get anything including more water or soda. I am disappointed that this place has gone down the toliet.

Warning: DO NOT GO HERE! Never write reviews because I’m a part owner of a restaurant and I understand how devastating bad Unilocal reviews can be. Honestly, this place was horrible. They were out of 25% of their items; then when the food came out nearly everything was missing something. They would not split checks and claimed that their point of sale system would not allow them to. Either their upper management makes horrible customer service policy decisions, or they don’t want to do it because it takes time. Either way, it’s unbelievable. The restaurant was dead slow, nearly empty, and the waitress or upper management wouldn’t take the extra 30 seconds to split our checks. I work with a pos system daily, and I know how little time it takes. I personally had the BLTA which was served with disgusting brown lettuce. Hopefully, I don’t get sick. On top of that, a few people in our party ordered Moscow mules, a typically very boozy cocktail. These were either extremely shorted on the vodka which was supposed to be in it, or did not have any vodka in them at all. With all that said, it wasn’t our waitress’s fault. The kitchen, bartender, and management all made the mistakes. She was clearly frazzled because of the number of problems that were outside of her control, and I would advise her to get a serving job anywhere that cares about quality. This restaurant clearly caters to their busy season and does not care at all about the off season. They might as well stay open only for the busy seasons and close for the rest of the year because, as a restaurant owner, I’d be embarrassed by the poor quality. Get into a new business or line of work. The five star review on here is likely fake.

The service was awful! Our waitress was incredibly rude & very ignorant. The food was sub par & that’s a compliment. Plus it was so so overpriced. Could have easily made everything better at home for less money. Applebees would have been better.

We happened in, early, on a Tuesday night last week, to find Choppers delightfully quiet. My husband’s burger was cooked to perfection. One of our favorite things about Choppers is their willingness to treat customers as adults who can decide for themselves how they want their meat cooked! The burger came medium rare — and without a lecture!
My BLTA came cut into quarters, as requested (I have one arm out of commission): it was not only delicious but manageable. I’d like the sweet potato fries better if they were long and skinny instead of pressed into waffle shapes, but they were tasty.
Owner Monte stopped by and we enjoyed a lengthy chat. This is a treat that crowds and crowd noise generally make difficult later in the evening when Choppers’ ambiance and good food make it a popular local gathering spot.

Terrible! Don’t eat here! Dirty restaurant. Awful food. My diet coke glass had a seed in the bottom. Our fries were cold and although they said they would bring hot ones they didn’t. Still tried to charge the dollar extra for sweet potato fries! My husband refused to pay that and they took that and the cost of the cokes off the bill.

Wish I would have used Unilocal before eating here. I would have chose a different place. Server did not know drink menu. Taste of food was just standard.

Went in for a few beers and a Bison Burger… Service was great, Bartender (Tom) was always aware when my glass was empty. Bison Burger (had a salad with the burger), was good sized, moist, cooked to my request. Salad was .a salad… good size. Good stuff!

Had the rusty frame burger, really enjoyed it! They also have quite the large selection of beers to choose from… would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a fantastic burger in the area!

If you see employees sitting at the bar playing dice, run away. Their dice game is more important than seating you or making your drink.
I was with a group on a Saturday afternoon and it was NOT busy in Choppers. It was taking a long time for drinks, so I went up to the bar to order myself a beer to speed things up. While I stood at the bar waiting to be served, I watched the bartender mix a drink for someone at my table, then set it on the bar rail and walk away. He then shook some dice and had a conversation with some other people sitting at the bar who appeared to be off duty employees. Then he washed some glassware and did some other things before finally noticing that he hadn’t shaken the drink that he had poured previously. He finally shook it and set it out on the bar. It took about another minute before he noticed me and I ordered my beer.
By the time I got back to our table the drink still had not been delivered. It had been about 5 minutes since it had been ordered.
When I walked up to the bar to ask if I could take the drink for the person at my table I was essentially scolded. When I explained how I watched the bartender shake dice instead of shaking the drink, the response I got was the bartender saying «PFFT» and then turning away.
If I ever go back to Big Sky (which I doubt I will because this type of service and attitude was pretty much the norm wherever we went), I will avoid Choppers like the plague and tell everyone else I know to do the same.

When I came here I was expecting a small burger shop, but I was wrong. This restaurant was able to pull off a modern rustic restaurant. It was very open with high ceiling and a Montana theme.
The food was great! I went with my father and daughter. I had a burger and I have to say it was the best burger I’ve had in a long time. This is a very worth while place to eat.

Poor service, food was subpar. Not a food snob but when you order a taco salad u expect more then what you get here. No flavor had to order salad dressing balsamic in order to give it some flavor. Also, it took 15 min to be seated when 6 people looked right at us multiple times.

Great place to stop for dinner or drinks in Big Sky. Menu is pretty diverse and nice beer selection

Three of us spent the past week in Big Sky skiing. We were hoping to find a place to be able to watch our home-​town hockey team and happened to drive by Choppers our first night and see hockey on the TVs. We came back the next night for the first of three Columbus Blue Jackets game that week. The bartender Casey was awesome and found the game for us. For three of the next four nights we came back and have excellent service from Casey while sitting at the bar. I had the Bison burger, the rotisserie chicken, and the hummus. Each were very good and I have to say that the hummus was the best that I’ve ever had — and I’ve had a lot of hummus.
They have an excellent selection of drafts — many of which are Montana-​brewed
In my book this is a must see during your trip to Big Sky

You’ll feel right at home when spending time at this family run restaurant! Great menu and great service! Tons of tv’s to watch your favorite sporting event with awesome football specials. Very popular place so be patient during the busy seasons… the food is worth the wait!

We had a excellent experience at Choppers! Our waitress was from WI which was great. She recommended the Cheese Soup, which was wonderful. It had a very subtle flavor and was definitely all about the cheese.
For our entrée’s we chose a Moped Burger and my husband had Smoked Rainbow Trout. Both were excellent. We would definitely go back and recommend to anyone!

Slow, poor service, terrible food, apathetic management.
I understand that when the majority of your business is transient, and your patrons are constrained to a limited number of options that offering good service, or good food, may seem optional. That’s the problem at Choppers. Bad food, bad service, apathetic management all culminates in a miserable dining experience. We waited over an hour in the bar for a table, then had the manager argue with us about whether they had called our name. Food is barely basic bar food, and when we finally got our table, it took another 45 minutes to get served. One in our party got a raw Philly cheese steak, but the manager didn’t seem to care. I had an entirely below average iceberg lettuce salad and overcooked, dry burger, but I was so hungry by that point that I forced it down.
BTW, there were two other large parties in the restaurant, but the patron to staff ratio was pretty low, so someone could have checked in on us once or twice.
Maybe the bar is okay, and with a buy-​one-​get-​one deal with a River Rock Lodge room key, it’s cheap. But if you’ve been out skiing all day, and want a good quick meal, avoid this place.
