My boyfriend and I decided to go somewhere together as a Christmas present instead of spending money on gifts and we decided on going to Big Sur. We stayed at the Big Sur Getaway for the long weekend and we had an amazing time! Caroline was an excellent host and offered wonderful accommodations. The trailer was well equiped with all the amenities we would need for the weekend. It was a very unique experience and my boyfriend and I had amazing time. We would recommend Big Sur getaway to all of our friends and definitely will be back!

Good first experience in an Airstream that I would recommend trying at least once. However, this may not be for everyone. I’ll add some color to help you make a choice. Pros — Unique experience that is less expensive than hotels in the area — Hosts are very responsive to any issue, but you need to have cell phone reception — Private shower and toilet, but not much water pressure or hot water — Felt safe and allows pets Cons — Having bathroom entrance right by the headboard is not ideal. Smells of urine. — Cold at night, so bring an electrical blanket. — Hard to find w/o the help of the host and it’s a steep dirt road with windy turns

My husband and I spent our one year wedding anniversary at Big Sur Getaway and we had a fabulous time! We arrived with ease shortly before dusk(thanks to Caroline’s amazing directions). The trailers are in the middle of an exclusive forest and all you can see are miles and miles of trees. I don’t want to give too much of the stunning view away because a) words won’t do it justice and b) you have to come see for yourself. Immediately upon arrival we met Mr. Turkey and Wern. Wern escorted us to our trailer(the Avion) and helped us get situated… with some brandy. Now that’s Big Sur hospitality! Caroline did an amazing job on the interior of the trailers — they are very retro! The area around your«glamp» site is very private and you feel like you are the only human beings out there. Throughout the duration of our stay Wern was always available and accommodated us with anything we needed. It should be noted that everything in Big Sur takes time to get to because of the windy roads so I highly recommend that you bring all your food and necessities with you — don’t plan on going shopping up there. I would definitely want to go back to Big Sur and stay with Carolina and Wern again. I would love to bring all my family friends. Caroline and Wern — thank you! You guys are so awesome!

I recently stayed here for 2 nights with my husband and our dog. Currently their only pet friendly trailer is the Avion, so that’s the one we booked. There are no signs off the road indicating where the Getaway is, although the owners provide fairly detailed instructions on how to get there, so we managed to not get lost. Once you enter through the gate, it feels like you’re off-roading as you make your way up the mountain on a dirt road. There are a few specific turns you need to make, which again are listed out for you, although having a few signs to help point the way would have made things a lot easier. We arrived an hour after check-in began, and instead of being greeted by the owners, we were led to our trailer by a neighbor who was helping Caroline with guests while she was away. This was fine, except for when none of us were able to figure out how to properly lock the trailer. The neighbor tried calling Caroline, but she was out of signal range, but lucky another neighbor came by and figured it out for us. We later found out that instructions on everything we needed to know to work the trailer were inside. The trailer itself was comfortable and came with basic condiments, plates and utensils, if we felt like cooking up anything on the stove. I would say that«glamping» as it’s stated on their website, is the best way to describe how our stay felt — it wasn’t as demanding as camping since most things are provided for you, but it’s not as convenient as staying in a hotel either(there is no internet, for example). It is nicely located in Big Sur, and we were grateful to discover that the River Inn, which is right next door to the Getaway off the highway, provides free wifi and great food. We enjoyed the most out of our trailer at night, as we sat in front of a small gas fireplace outside, and laid back to look at the stars. The location of the Avion, although essentially a trailer in someone’s backyard, still felt private and definitely more remote than staying in a room in a hotel. We actually never met or spoke to Caroline during our entire stay, which I still can’t decide was a good or a bad thing. But needless to say, if you enjoy your privacy, then they are obviously happy to give that to you here. I would say that these trailers are geared a little more towards the outdoors type, which I wouldn’t classify myself as. So if I were to return to Big Sur without my dog, I would probably look into an actual hotel to book myself in. Although I wouldn’t rule out returning to the Getaway either if it were the best option available.

We stayed in the Tradewind for 2 nights. We absolutely enjoyed our first ever glamping adventure. My husband & I are not the outdoorsy types but Big Sur Getaway changed our views. I love the privacy, giant trees, & comfortable outdoor furniture that really encouraged us to enjoy nature at its finest. Caroline’s interior decoration is impeccable! She made a small space so chic, cozy & elegant. We told Caroline & Wern that our son has autism & they were so understanding & welcomed him with the biggest & warmest smiles.

Stayed for 1 night, 2 adults, 2 dogs and plenty of wine! Getting there: I advise getting there before dark or it will be tough to navigate once you cross over the bridge. Right next door to a coffee shop and casual breakfast spot or a 10 minute drive from The Post Ranch Inn or Ventana Inn. Amenities: At a glance it’s charming and generous. Inside your airstream cabin is tight but packed with decadent comfort: Bose IPod deck, drip coffee maker or french press, full shower(similar to a boats bathroom), outdoor shower with hot water, mod-décor, outdoor fire pit, comfy lounge chairs and potentially a hammock… But then you go shower and the water goes cold within 7 minutes. This happened in the evening and in the morning… Regardless, had an amazing time and enjoyed the views. Owners were kind and helpful. My dogs were welcomed and able to roam. It was worth $ 300 considering my only other option was Post Ranch for $ 900… I could only glamp for a couple of nights. It was clean enough but I’d prefer it to be cleaner… This is decadent camping. Fantastic if you plan on passing out and sleeping once you make it back home.

I love this place! We stayed in the Airstream Safari and it was just as adorable as in the pictures! It felt very private and very quiet. We had a problem with the gas grill because it was not cooking our steak, but we called Caroline and they tried everything they could to fix it. We ended up cooking it on the stove. One thing, I will say is that it’s easy to miss the entrance and the private roads are a little rocky and may be scary to drive them at night if you haven’t done it before. Caroline addresses this in the contract and says that you can call them and they will meet you at the entrance to help. Caroline, her husband and their sweet doggy were really great. This little place has everything that you need– salt/pepper/saran wrap– even tiny reusable ice cubes and portable lunch bag to pack for a hike. I really enjoyed my stay here. It was wonderful and I would love to come back!

We arrived pretty late and Werner met us to make sure we didn’t get lost. The airstream was very clean and cute. They have everything you could possibly need like flashlights, dishes, soap, etc. The bed was comfy enough. Our little dog just loved it. Just enough nature but not too much. There was a wild turkey hanging out during the day and lots of blue jays in the morning. It was definitely pricey but it was super fun.
