Sobre Sur Grande

This is a bedroom home for — a night with 3 night min stay. I might book this place depending if other plans work out for 3 days but the gentleman on the phone is super nice.

(This review is for La Casita, yes, the smaller house. The main house around the side of the hill with the deck and grill is similarly nice, most of the reviews refer to that one. La Casita is much smaller, but a higher standard of luxury.)
This really is like being in the middle of the woods in a comfortable, new-​feeling place with a great view down a redwood canyon.
There are some things to be aware of. For example, a short part of the road is dirt, there’s a short gravel path to the house, there *are* neighbors so you aren’t completely alone, but they can’t see you so the house itself is private. (So overall that is good.) Hiking is close by, but trails do not start from the property itself. I recommend studying the website.
It’s hard to get this kind of seclusion and luxury, not to mention the view, all together. This is a unique find. If you want to feel like you are truly in the woods but without the typical rustic edge (or triple the rate), I doubt you will find a better option.

Stayed recently for a family get away with our adult «children.» We unplugged immediately and were awestruck at the view from Tony’s deck. The home was lovely, the kitchen well appointed, the beds so comfortable… enjoyed cooking on the deck and enjoying a grand sunset — could almost touch the stars!
Tony’s recommendations for hiking and dining were spot on!

Stayed here with my parents and wife’s family. In-​laws had never been to Big Sur so it was fitting to complement the grandeur or Big Sur with the beauty of Sobre Sur Grande! Tony’s place is a real gem and very glad I discovered it before considering more traditional options. The place has all the comforts and amenities to make your stay first rate and I really appreciated the finer points of hospitality that are evident in sharing Tony’s home albeit only for a few days.
The highlights:
* Grilling and dining al fresco from the spacious deck while watching the sun set beyond the horizon
* Having a front row seat while watching the morning coastal fog roll into the valley below
* Seeing deer stroll on by in the backyard
* Did I mention the monster grill?
* Stunning views from the lawn, deck and bedrooms — just stunning

There were three couples, and we all had the best bedroom in the house! Private decks and long views down a canyon to the ocean! A hot tub, and the most amazing stocked kitchen! Thank you my friend for sharing your home. — MrsRobinsonSF

What an amazing experience! This house makes you feel at one with nature while feeling right at home. The views are just spectacular! You can see the ocean (or fog) from the deck and just about every bedroom. Each bedroom has its own special detail. We stayed here with 2 other couples, and we got the bottom bedroom with the living space and RED couches! (i love red!) The bed was SO comfy, and the SHOWER?! my god, so amazing. And lets not forget the Hot Tub! We took a nice quiet dip once the stars came out, very romantic and beautiful. I really wish we never had to leave. It was just so relaxing and beautiful the entire time. We hope to visit again in the future!

I stayed with my family (me, husband and two boys — 7 and 10). When we arrived, it was hot enough outside for the boys to play a game of catch on the lawn while I enjoyed a sunset glass of wine in a nearby Adirondack chair. The next day, after a quiet dip in the hot tub, we went to Pfeiffer Beach. Delightful. By the time we returned, it was raining. The house is so high in the hills that we were acutally in the rain cloud! The house is the perfect place to be in the rain. We just sat inside and watched the clouds change around us. Better than any TV show!
As the others have said, the kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans, utensils, oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, spices, herbs, etc. Tony is a gem, too. And the beds are comfy. The house is so quiet at night. So restful!

My family was able to use this wonderful house as «home base» to enjoy the entire Big Sur region. The home is comfortable & clean, the amenities are absolutely top grade, and the views are simply remarkable. Not only was the home perfect, but there is so much to do in the region (and the house is so well located) that the entire experience was stunning. The home owner is welcoming and has great advice and experience of the region. We plan to come back and bring more of the family (this home will sleep 6 very comfortably).

This house is a wonderful, hidden home perfect for retreat with friends. The kitchen is well-​stocked and enjoyable for cooking. Grilling out on the deck is a treat! We love all the different levels and fun design. The house is so close to ocean shore as well as great access to hikes and just getting to sit and take in all beautiful views. We stayed at Sobre Sur Grande for a weekend in February of 2013 and couldn’t wait to come back! Tony, the host is very easy to contact and has thought through just about all the details you need to know! There has been a hot tub added since we were there last, so we look forward to enjoying that on our upcoming visit this summer.

A couple of friends and I were looking for a relaxing place to stay in Big Sur with a good view. The drive up to La Casita winded through the Redwoods and then after going up the hill, we walked onto the deck of the house and were blown away by the panoramic view of the woods and ocean. The house itself was very nicely furnished with great amenities. While it is a cozy fit for three people, the grill and balcony are a great place to spend the evening grilling and hanging out.
Will definitely be back again.
